    Fun Fact: Ann & Nancy Wilson are sisters, they wrote this song as an angry response to their record label spreading false scandalous rumors about them, saying that Ann & Nancy were secretly lovers (which obviously wasn't true) just as a marketing ploy to increase album sales. This made the sisters so mad that they wrote this song to tell off, rebuke & reprimand these record label agents, calling them "barracudas" (a predator fish known for their deliberately cruel temperament & vicious behavior).

    Absolutely right. Heard Ann talk about it in an interview. And hence lyrics such as this: No right, no wrong you're selling a song, a name Whisper game And if the real thing don't do the trick You better make up something quick I have so crushed on these two power musicians (in a healthy way) for the last 47 years or so.

    A barracuda is a predatory saltwater fish that stalks rather than hunts. They're incredibly fast, powerful and nasty fighters. Ann and Nancy Wilson wrote this song about one of their promoters that wanted to portray them as incestuous polyamorous lesbians, to basically refer to the promoter as a nasty, slimy, stalking predator. Also, Sisters harmonizing. No autotune, just incredible talent and Ann Wilson is still killing it in her 70s, she recently covered Layne Staley’s vocals on "Rooster" with Alice In Chains.

    They were one of the bands at my first concert: Cal Jam 2 - Mar. 1978. I was 15yrs9mos and was there for about 27 hours. My brother disappeared around noon and I had to hitch-hike home to San Berdoo after 1am; whenever Aerosmith finished. I stood at the tunnel going underneath the track and shouted "anyone going to San Berdoo?" Only had to do that twice and got a response. Luckily, it turned out they lived just a few blocks from me. Oh, and my older brother spent the day in the medical tent. He went to get us something to drink before Santana took the stage and he had an asthma attack when attempting to return to where I was; for people crowding to get closer to the stage. Eventually, they got him an ambulance to get him to a hospital. My mom got a call regarding him, but then learned I was at the concert alone. Good Times

    Hi Aileen, great to be a new subscriber to your channel. Yeah, these Wilson sisters were and still are bad ass. I was a senior in high school when this song came out and I had just bought a 1969 Barracuda. I heard this song when I was leaving school driving to Connecticut to work. WTF, when I heard this song the first time. I locked the brakes up and skidded off the road before I ended up killing myself in that car. I shut it down and just listened. Oh my God how crazy is this. I was always a huge Heart fan. Anne stuttered when she was growing up as an Army brat.Their dad was very musically inclined and music was a centerpiece in their lives growing up. When their boyfriends were drafted to go the Vietnam War they left Seattle and moved to Vancouver to avoid going to Vietnam. Nancy was first to join a band with the Fisher boys. That's when Anne came aboard and the rest is history. Anne wrote this song in about 15 minutes after some record producer from Mushroom records claimed that Anne and Nancy were having a incestuous relationship. She was pissed. That's when she went back to the hotel room and wrote this song. Barracuda are notorious for being ambush predators and they strike very hard and fast. That's what Anne likened the record company to. A freaking nasty bunch of predatory people. Got my attention and those girls always will.

    Here on KZread their is a reviewer that goes by The Charismatic Voice she's an opera singer and voice coach who mentions how much control Ann has. Ann has/d a sweet higher voice but uses her diaphram as a resonance chamber then listening and analizing her consenant and vowel sentence structure with her control of her throat and tongue she not only controls her pitch she can belt out without have to scream using mostly her throat. And she might have something .I've seen Heart in concert and Ann kept her strength and range from start to finish where when I saw Aerosmith in concert Steven Tyler was pretty raspy towards the end.

  • @Bikebrh
    @Bikebrh3 ай бұрын

    Funny how you talk about her confidence on stage, because even though she puts out the vibe that she is confident, Ann actually at times suffered from crippling stage fright. Nancy has talked about times where she had to walk up to Ann and get practically nose to nose with her to snap her out of it mid-concert. I guess she learned to recognize the signs so she could snap Ann out of it before it became obvious to the audience.

    The Wilson sisters was my first love, lol. I had heard Alice Cooper (live) and heard some Jethro Tull by the time I was 4 or 5. After that it was these ladies & KISS. Until Van Halen changed the game with Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd was about all I had heard by 10 or 11. I didn't really get into Zeppelin until college, but I sure found why I loved Heart so much after that. They had their MTV poppy era, but they were always fantastic. Today I enjoy an eclectic music collection and love for great music thanks to these two ladies right here. Rush really helped and Pink Floyd after that. I lived through the "golden age" of music IMO. Journey, The Police, ZZ Top, Yes, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Missing Persons, Billy Squier, Skid Row, Guns & Roses, CheVelle, The Cult, The Eagles, The Cure, Metallica all and many more I got to see live & in their prime.

    You should react to the cover of this from the band PLUSH! I saw them in Kansas City with falling in reverse and disturbed and they were awesome and executed this song to perfection 🤘🔥❤️

    When I was a kid we were in downtown Vancouver Washington when we heard a band playing. All of the sudden this unreal voice belted out and all of us just looked at each other wondering who that was behind the mike!! Found out later is was Ann Wilson singing at the caboose restaurant in the mid 1970's

    These ladies are still out there kicking a** - they're doing a festival this summer sandwiched between Mr. Bungle and Tool! 😂 Everybody will have their suggestions, but I will always advocate for the stuff more off the beaten path-try "Mistral Wind" live from the Greatest Hits/Live album (the one with Ann wearing a striped jacket on the cover) "Bad Animals" "The Night", "Black On Black II" and their song with Layne Staley "Ring Them Bells".

    Ann Wilson is hands down the best female rock voice of all time. Heart is amazing live, too. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. I saw them live in 2017, I believe, and she sounded just as incredible live as a woman in her late 60s (67) at that time as she sounded in her 30s. Absolutely incredible.

    August 1st 2024...Heart, right here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I got my tickets IMMEDIATELY! Looking forward to that show, Cheap Trick will be opening up. Ann recently did a duet with David Draiman(Disturbed) "Don't Tell Me". GREAT song. At 73 years old(she'll be 74 by the time I see the show), she's still got the pipes! 🤘🤘🤘

    I saw these lovely ladies in concert in 1982 (I was 20 at the time). I managed to squeeze myself up to the front of the stage, was only 10 feet from them (back then you could get really close) and on the side of the stage where Nancy was. I'm 6'2" so I was a bit more noticeable in the crowd. While Nancy was playing I managed to wave at her....she smiled and kissed at me! I've been in love with her ever since. Just don't tell my wife. LOL!!

    AileenSenpai, this is the album version you are hearing, cut to live footage. Having seen them twice, they pull it off perfectly when live, but just letting you know you heard the studio version if someone were to request it. Speaking of studio version - please hear "Mistral Wind" from the record. It's my favorite and you will love it!
