    @@PaulDavids Took me 4 months to successfully defend my copyright strike. Similar scenario as yours but had to contact the band, their Management and a 3rd party Publisher to find out why they claimed my song infringed on their song. The band pulled their video from KZread after my copyright withstood the claim. Frickin' bots is what the problem is.

    Exactly, they knew what they were doing. You don't just find a backing track on your computer and put your vocals over the top and claim it's all yours. I can understand if he ripped it 2 years ago and then forgot where it came from but at least make an effort to track down the original and get permission/give credit.

    I have a song on my computer I have no idea where I got it, where it came from or who made it... I have shazamed it, played it for people... Years and years now, probably pushing 15 years. Love the song. Gives me an idea to upload it to KZread and see if I can get a copyright notice for it and see if they know who it is... Of course I wouldn't claim it as my own, I really just want to find out who it is to check their other material out.

At first I was flattered until I looked closer and they had taken my original photo and cropped it to remove the copyright noticed and then added their own. I was more puzzled by this because of the fact this friend (actually friend of a friend) is a professional photographer. Since photography is just a hobby to me I simply moved on with a funny story to share.

So I decided to do an instrumental playthrough and upload it to my youtube channel. A few months later I got the same letter as you did but from an instrumental company. Basically, they got my track from the internet and uploaded it as their own musical ensemble. I was furious! KZread should create a content-id checker dashboard so that we could see who is claiming what!

    Problem is that it's not who uploads first, it's who owns the copyright - he always need to be prepared to defend your copyrights. Some professional recording studios' employees have leaked songs to the Internet prior to an official release. Unscrupulous people will be selling your song and collecting the money before you're even aware.

    I don't care about my cloned work except when this same thing happens. KZread took 1 month to remove a record company from a video of mine. The music was something anyone can make in GarageBand around 3 years old, but the video is the important item to me and it all got hijacked like stealing the whole video. I used months on some programming available in WarCraft 3 and the video link is up on the Blizzard site as some fan art and many went to see it. Eventually the record company saw that they couldn't do that hijack longer.

    KZread did not mess up. Paul hadn't claimed his own track for copyright and content ID when he uploaded it. In other words, he did not notify youtube that this track is his. When the other guy (thief) made his final track with Paul's music, he claimed the copyright! So youtube suggested him as the creator and matched the track. That is why Paul should be a lot more harsh on this guy.

    The whole Facebook ripoff thing is a serious problem. Due to the primitive state of Facebook videos, viral video pages and the like can net millions of views, without even crediting the original author. And even when they do credit the author, it doesn't matter, since it wasn't monetized by the author, and it's on a completely different platform. Initial views count a lot, and when most of them happen on Facebook during the video's infancy, the damage is done, with or without credit. This Facebook malarkey has to stop. Facebook is the entity that could use Content ID and stricter rules, not KZread.

    Chord TheSeeker I'm also really curious why that happens.. for me, even when a video is bad, i would still think twice before disliking it.. i only dislike some really terrible videos.. which in many cases, everyone else also agree (proved by the bigger dislike amount). But for a video like this.. just why????

    I saw this in my feed and was a bit reluctant to click because of how click bait like much of KZread has become. This was so clean and straight to the point. Funny, insightful, honest and entertaining. Wow. Great story teller and even greater self composure while checking someone for stealing your work. Way to go! That guy is beyond crazy pants too. Goes to show people need to stop stealing others work in the first place because in the end it never pays off and they’re exposed as a fraud.

    Yeah, copyright itself is one problem, but in hip-hop/rap and electronic music world sampling music from others is not uncommon and a lot of people don't ask for permission and making money from it. I think this is bigger problem.

  • @ldezo

    @ldezo

    6 жыл бұрын

    To be fair, hip hop and electronic musicians usually don't rip off a whole song and simply paste it all in their project, they choose small loops and hits and use them in a creative way to create a completely different experience to the original song. Saying that this kind of collage is a problem is stretching it in my opinion and the opinion of the law. For example, listen to madlib's shades of blue, it is all sample based, but his style and aestetic can undenyably be found and appreciated in the work.

  • @laurenzpelster2499

    Laurent Dezo The problem is not how they're using it, but when they do it without permission from the original artist.

  • @ldezo

    @ldezo

    6 жыл бұрын

    Egon Stinkt Thing is, I believe how they're using it should be taken into account in whether or not the sampling artist should ask for permission. Putting an artist than sampled a song and changed it as to be unrecognisable in the same basket as one who just plain copied a full song is undesireable for art's sake.

    I don't have to ask a magazine publisher to make collages of their strips. I don't have to ask a newspaper if I can make a papier mache hat out of their papers. If I edit a pre-existing painting in photoshop, the version I make is mine and not theirs. If I combine two songs into a remix, the final product is mine. Just focus on creating something different enough from the original so people understand you're trying to make instead of take.

    Ooook! Now I have seen it all... 😔 Sometimes the “AI” systems aka Content ID could go mad... It would be easier if the coders put in the algorithm the date of uploading so it can compare quickly and you don’t have to get to all this trouble and time consuming things... In the end all went smoothly! 👍🏻🙏🏻

  • @sonarun

    @sonarun

    6 жыл бұрын

    Dimitris Fatisis you would think that the Content ID would reference dates of the original recording to see who had uploaded the audio first. If a track was created and posted at a later date than the original video, obviously it would make sense that the first upload should hold the Content ID rights.
