Crash On The Run is OFFICIALLY Dead... And I'm Not Happy
Ойындар
Crash On the run, the Crash Bandicoot Mobile Runner game, is officially dead. King came forward and announced it a month ago, but the way they went with it was Awful. How could Crash on the Run be canned when Crash Team Rumble was just RIGHT around the corner? Let's talk about it.

What I'm most upset about isn't the fact that the game will disappear; I actually don't really care much about mobile games. What REALLY angers me is the lack of communication on King's part. There's no excuse for leaving everyone in the dark for over a year, then "Suprise! The game is dead!" Absolutely unacceptable.

King 🤢
This game was literally made for this type of mobile game...an endless runner! But King has gotta be King and...well...SOMETHING behind the scenes happened that we're not privvy to. For me, the game was a "waiting on timers" simulator, with far too many collection runs to be worth my time. They managed to make Crash boring, and that is a hell of an achievement. Shame too; I really like these designs of the cast. Ah well.

I really think that Crash On The Run could’ve be just a mobile game and not a live service game. Most live service games like Fortnite and Fall Guys will have micro transactions in it. To make the game last longer, they would need to get constant updates by fixing bugs and glitches and adding new stuff to the game. This game has the potential to bring in new audiences that has never played a Crash Bandicoot game before. It was really a missed opportunity for Crash On The Run shine. I really hope that this doesn’t happen with Crash Team Rumble.

This, right here, is why physical media is so important in this day and age. With physical media, you can never lose the content stored on that particular unit, be it base game content or content you've already downloaded into the game, and it will always be with you forever. Rendering something lost media not only means it is permanently gone, never to be seen again, but also results in pretty much nothing good coming out for any parties involved. It happened with Dr. Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 35, and now it's happening with Crash: On the Run as well, and in all 3 cases, it's nothing short of disheartening. This is why Keep Circulating the Tapes is one of my least favorite tropes of all time; companies seem to practically enforce it nowadays in regards to their products.

When I said the game was DEAD, after 10 months since launch, I was banned from their Discord just for being "a pessimist". I've spent money on this game, I'm a Crash fan since '99, it's a shame on one hand, but it's also a slap in the face of those King-suckers, when I was the only one skeptic about it BEFORE launch, solely for the fact of King being behind the first Crash mobile game, they make match-3 games, for Coco's sake. You should make a video about King itself, they need to suffer for this and get the negative attention they deserve.
Crash on the Run was so close to being a fantastic game. King didn't care for it, it didn't make it better, King killed their game. Crash on the Run could've been one of the most creative running games of all time, but it's now dead. Their was so much potential for this game and it just stings that I'll never be able to see it grow.
The worst thing about this is that the app used to be playable offline a few updates ago. They must've forced online at some point to prevent cheating in items or something.

I was SUPER INTO this game at its peak. I was consistently the #1 player on my team, which in turn was Top 3 many seasons in a row, up through around the time they "temporarily" cancelled the Seasons entirely. Imo, here's what ultimately killed it. - They "temporarily" discontinued the multiplayer Seasons. Not only did this probably decrease their revenue -- as a lot of us bought the Bandicoot Pass for extra prizes during each season -- but it also killed the multiplayer aspect of the game entirely. - That multiplayer aspect was important, imo, because if you got hyperfixated and super into the game like I did -- which is generally a goal for these kinds of casual mobile games, get you hooked -- it wasn't long before you made your way through all of the core game content. Once you unlocked Upstream, the final level "so far", and beat all of the bosses, the game no longer had any point without new content added. - The reason for suspending Seasons was to divert resources back toward improving and expanding the core game. This never happened. - Around the time I stopped playing -- by which time this was partly bc it was hemorrhaging users, including my former teammates from a Crash Bandicoot Discord server I frequent -- they introduced a really shitty UI update that really stripped a lot of the visual charm and character out of the game. This didn't help. - Some of the UI change may have occurred because from the game's launch onward, the main screen had featured several "Coming Soon" areas. By the time of said UI change, it had probably become apparent that those elements -- marked on the map by Crash's jetboard, Coco's jetski, and a couple of other things -- were never going to be developed. It's kind of sad, because for a stretch of time, they actually had a pretty successful game. Then they fucked with it and everyone left.

Yeah a classic game that showed potential and promised new features but these never happened such a shame
i was absolutely heartbroken when i read the announcement that the game was ending, and furthermore when i realized i could never play it again. i’m part of the hypothetical 0.5% that adored the game, i didn’t finish every island, but i had definitely spent months grinding out the game and even went back to it within the past few weeks, even without the addition of any new content. i was disappointed initially with the UI change because it got rid of a bunch of “coming soon” features, but then to see that the game was being wiped from existence explained why that happened. i think the thing that makes me the most upset is just how nonchalant they’re acting about the whole thing. there was absolutely no communication to the fans, and seeing the king support conversation, there probably wasn’t a whole lot of internal communication happening either. i hope to see this getting more attention, because i’m not too happy with how my boy crash is being handled atm
It's a shame. Illumix did the exact same thing with FNaF AR; promised new content, took a suspiciously long break (only an entire year!), claimed that they were still working on the game, then announced its cancellation a while later out of nowhere.
I played Crash Bandicoot: On the Run for several months in 2021. Eventually it got too grindy and I lost interest in playing it on my iPod, but I thoroughly enjoyed the time that I had. This is a major public relations disaster for King, going radio-silent for 14 months and then announcing on December 19th, 2022 that the game would be shut down in nearly two months time.

I would say the main problem with these types of runner games is repetition if they switched the gameplay up a bit more it may have brought in more players shame
I never liked this game but it is strange to see it taken down, you would think they'd leave it up in some form or another. My favourite thing about this game was the redesign it gave Spyro, it may not be the best design but I think it looked pretty interesting and unique.
After getting a notification of the game shutting down months later on the game when i randomly opened it up one day, I remember dedicating myself to that game all the way until the few weeks before the games servers shut down. I managed to collect all 200+ gems, allcolored gems, all plat relics, every item in every 'battlepass' since the first one. I didn't get every skin though since i avoided buying the crystals and only bought the subscription for crystals. I can live with not having every skin though, anything that was able to be earned though i got. (Not every clan skin though, didn't get top 1 rank for some of them.) It WAS a good run though, it was definitely rough and tedious at times, but I enjoyed it. Still holding the app on my phone. I probably plan on never getting rid of it so i can keep hold of the memory that the game at least existed.
Well Blame Activision! Imagine Paying for this Game, and then it’s no longer Playable! It’s like spending money for a Limited Game!
When things never go the way we like. For me, Miiverse shut down, DS and Wii online compatibility, and later the 3DS eShop planned shut down. Those at least had workarounds. You can use a homebrew system, use a different DNS, or get games through any means instead, I think if it truly mattered to the fans, they can save the game by finding a workaround that regular people would've never thought of.

My son just discovered this game and wanted to play it, only for me to stumble over this video cementing my fear that the game was no longer available. I wonder why don't they just remove the in-app purchase think and remove the need for backend serveres so the game could run In a stand-alone fashion?
Deja vu. I had the same frustration when the Marvel Avengers Alliance was announced to be terminated. That’s one of the main reasons I prefer sticking with single player games. They’re not reliant on online servers.
Thanks CGE for this strong statement. Looking forward to the following video and I hope the right persons get known of it and be thinking about their decisions in every way.
This also happened to Rovio Classics: Angry Birds as well. Including other Angry Birds games like Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds GO!, Angry Birds Star Wars, and Angry Birds Rio. Those games are my favorite of all time including Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! I still love Angry Birds, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and other games that I like the most, I just don't like when they get delisted, It's not there anymore. Although they still have Rovio Classics: Angry Birds in the Apple Store, they just don't have that game in Google Play Store anymore. This is a shame to Google Play and Apple for this. 😥
I really wished to have more where we chose the boss and map where we wanna fight them because I have friends who went crazy wanting to fight pinstripe. I loved fighting pinstripe and nina. And now it's all gonna be gone soon
Thing is I really wish they keep the game at least accessible. Just promise people something and shut it down is not a cool move and yeah that dose not make me happy too.
Thanks for making this video. I LOVED this game when it came out but every update seemed to make it less fun / playable even. So sad to hear it's gone, but nice to know I'm not alone in that. Thanks CG. 👍
No quiero que suceda lo mismo con Team Rumble
I hope this gets the Sonic Runners treatment where the community revives it
Thank you for speaking about this and keeping things real (your thoughts and feelings about this situation). It’s amazing to me that they just delisted the game from the App Store and let the game die without so much as even an update or news about it being sent out to fans or the player base early on. They could have even asked fans and the player base for suggestions as to how to make the game better and implemented those ideas in some way or another. And what about those supposed updates coming to the game to make the game/the year “Crashier than ever”??? At least update everyone on what is going on? I wasn’t the biggest fan of this game (doesn’t mean I didn’t play it or like some of the elements), but that doesn’t mean updates to the game couldn’t have made it better and more enjoyable. I don’t like the reliance on microtransactions in mobile games. That being said, with some tweaks and modifications to the game and it’s currency and progression system, perhaps it could’ve been fine. This game is yet again another missed opportunity for the series and another Crash game lost to history. I feel like I’m getting used to/tired of seeing this? …Disappointing. Very disappointing. 👎
Just to be clear: the game is still "running" (no, I'm not going to apologize for this joke), I just played it today for a couple of survival runs. But on top of the game not receiving any more updates and not being available on the app store anymore, CotR is officially going to be shut down on February the 16th. And if it's not getting an official "offline" version like some other free to play titles that are having their servers closed, I hope fans can make one or else Crash on the Run might be lost forever
King basically planted the knife in the bandicoot's back. They betrayed us all
something similar happened to Fantasy Life Online-back in August, there were rumors that it was going to close in 6 months-the devs said that was false. HOWEVER, 4 months and 5 days later-they announced it was shutting down in February, just UNDER 6 months after they told us to ignore the rumors.
even tho i havent played this at all im here to give people at least some hope with this comment: i wanna bring attention to the fact that this has also happened to another endless runner - sonic runners. the fix for that game was seemingly pretty easy, and it was to change the code slightly to make it ping a custom server instead of the official one. im not sure how feasible that is with this game, but hopefully we can see that soon so that everyone can continue to play it, or experience it for the first time. as for sonic runners (now sonic runners revival), they managed to decompile the game and add in an offline mode, so hopefully that can also be done with this game, even tho it may take a while before we can see that
Okay so I might as well spew out my thoughts and feelings when I first heard about the news about Crash on the run is going to be delisted on the Google Play & App Store. I am really upset about the news when they first tweeted this on Twitter that I said a whole rant on a discord call why I think this is ridiculous because Crash on the run was the only mobile game I play, it could have potential to release new content to keep fans/everybody who downloaded the game to be hyped for Crash Team Rumble. The Game was a huge success that lead people to buy Crash Bandicoot 4, and it had more downloads than Mario Run did. but what really bothers me about this is the lack of communication. You can't just say "we will release new COTR content in 2022" but 14 month's later just say oh we are delisting the game and make the game not playable on February 16th, 2023. I do hope we do get a new Crash mobile game in the future that has great support and at least has great communication with the Crash community, because honestly King did us dirty folks. :(
Hope this video opens the eyes of King. I’m angry, too. I’ll keep playing this game until the end, because it makes my day. Also glad to see those numbers. My last challenge run had a glitch and I had a nitro chicken on my head, but I kept playing

I can’t believe that this game has gotten 60 million downloads & plays, just to be terminated out of existence, just like that? 😢 Now we know how skylanders: ring of heroes felt. 😔
Makes you think what the hell happened, a company wouldn't want to just randomly destroy such a huge game, with so many players, that's also super easy to make, even leaving it running without doing anything it would have still printed money at a decent rate, with some support and some ads it would have made SO MUCH money, again, what the hell happened? :(
The endless runner game will no longer be endless, how ironic...
I was very addicted to the game and enjoyed it quite a lot! Unfortunately, I had to clean my storage and so I had to uninstall it but I was hoping to download it again in the future. Then when I heard the news of it's end I was really upset.. I still don't know why they did this.
That is such a Shame. This game was so Fun.
If it doesn't come back maybe it can get a fan hack that let's be played on fan servers or just offline
But... I didn't even get to unlock Spyro...
There are so many games that were just... silently shut down. Games like My Muppet's Show, Monster Hunter Frontier Z, heck... THE ENTIRE ANGRY BIRDS FRANCHISE! These ways to get rid of games just make me sad (Especially when I never had the opportunity to play them)

Really doubt they intentionally misled anyone to this degree. There was prob interference from Activision.
I was so upset that this game is coming down. I enjoy this game alot. But wish they didn't have to cancel it... 😥
Just a year prior Activision killed another mobile game of theirs, Skylanders Ring of Heroes. Interesting how they are killing all of their mobile games now that people actually like.
I understand the frustration so well, I didn't get into this game but I got into others who also died and it's so sad to never be able to play them EVER again, I can remember Spider-Man Unlimited, Puzzle Fighter and SEGA Heroes, an offline mode for those would've been so cool, I even spent money on the last 2.
Crash on the run mobile app controlls are still bad to me too play.
This has been an issue with MMORPGs as well. Games that are extremely fun, but then they just shut down and you can never play it again. Can't they at least make a final update to allow for Offline play?
In light of Marvel's Avengers, a major AAA release pretty much meeting the same fate as Crash on the Run this September is an indictment not only on much of the industry's poor preservation efforts but also live service and why they probably should be outlawed completely. I can still imagine some people pointing and laughing at this game's delisting and those who downloaded it, viewing it as karma for supporting mobile gaming and Activision. And I say this as someone who isn't a mobile gaming fan.
Im so upset about it I cried when I found out and I started screen recording my runs and screenshoting my progress so I will always be able to find the game😭❤️
One of the few games I’ve enjoyed so much in a long time because of the memories that brought me back to nostalgia.. I found out today that the game shut down. That’s really upsetting
I would like to see this game just made playable offline. Remove the timers, remove the multiplayer stuff, just... let us play it as a normal fucking video game...
Im never gonna delete the game. Even if I cant play it, Im gonna keep that app icon there on my phone as a reminder of what once was and as everlasting proof that I played it while it was still alive.
My opinion isn't unique, but this game really brought me up and then continually let me down, so I feel I should comment too. I absolutely loved the concept and the hard work and effort put into the graphics, audio, gameplay, etc. I managed to try out the beta version and I was immediately hooked. When the game first came out, I played it every day, multiple times a day. However, I already noticed some design changes. Gems and other collectibles were no longer something you needed to try and find in a level, similar to the original Crash Bandicoot games. They were now simply options on a menu. This didn't kill my interest in the game, but I kept my eye on it. As further updates were released, it seemed like almost every change made it more difficult for players to enjoy the game. They were adding things like more intense speed increases and more difficult bosses, both with a huge amount of bugs. This was somewhat acceptable for the players that had completed the entire game by playing 24/7 or buying their way through the waiting times, but for every new player, this became an immediate turn-off. Every update either seemed to be for the benefit of King's finances or for the benefit of the 0.01 percent of players who kept wanting something to change. Every single player I know stopped playing the game because of these changes. I tried my best to keep supporting this, but as time went by, I started liking the game less and less. Even the UI started being pulled back with the cool island exploration menu being changed into a boring text and button menu. I feel like every single step of the way, King had the option of making things better and they chose the wrong option... and they continued choosing the wrong option until people hated the game and left. As you've said in the video, Canadian Guy Eh, they are now telling us that the game won't even be playable after they end the service. What sucks the most about this is that because of their greed and stubbornness, A) they don't want anyone to enjoy the game once they're no longer able to make money off it and B) the franchise will feel much less inclined to make another Crash Bandicoot mobile game again soon, which is very disappointing. Overall, I'm only speculating, but it feels like the people that created this game did so because they were passionate and full of excitement, and it feels like the reason it failed was due to corporate greed and incompetence.
I have a feeling this isn't something King made on their own, but more like Activision forced them to shut down operations. Activision itself tends to flip the switch if a game isn't making money, and if it isn't making money, they'll force the devs to cease services and focus on the next project... or whatever will potentially make more money than what they had previously. (*Points at Heroes of the Storm*) I've heard one developer on the Overwatch team wrote out a tweet that they had to cancel various ideas and plans for Overwatch because of Activision's choice of direction they wanted the game go. Hence why I think this didn't seem like a decision King themselves would make, but rather something Activision told them to do (that and also possibly to work on some WoW Mobile game called Arclight Rumble.)
Same thing happened with skylanders ring of heroes by Com2US as a result alot of stuff ended up on the cutting room floor plus i only beat that one on easy.
Activision makes the most mind-boggling decisions. I have known this for a long time playing Blizzard games. There is no way a 60 million download game wasn't making money. CTR: NF honestly sold very well. It sometimes feels like they pretend that everything other than Call of Duty and WoW aren't profitable when numerically it's not true. I really don't understand a lot of the time.
They kinda did a similar thing when they cut CTR short of its final season. As a big Crash fan how can I even invest in Rumble when I know they won't consistently update the game and inevitably cut promised content? This is not a good look for a company that's about to launch a multi-million dollar multiplayer Crash game.

Honestly I'm more curious on why it failed and got closed down, although considering it might've been something to do with a massive player drop off isn't too surprising in the slightest, we should've seen the signs about this failing, first the developer being King who are notoriously known for their MTX hungry mobile games and would rather rob you blind than make a good product, secondly the technical issues that plagued this game since the start didn't help much either, plus the tedious grinding for little reward became exhausting after a while, not to mention the MTX was really bad and just proving once again corporate greed and MTX can ruin even the best of projects, just would like it if better laws were in place for the consumer especially for MTX garbage like this, the government banned loot boxes and doing that was too broad cause there's dozens of ways scummy devs can rip you off other than making some controlled randomized odds of rewards for the play to earn in the same way a innocent pack of Trading Cards can be.

Should be a standard for any game that’s come to the end of its actively supported run and online features turned off.. Make it playable offline.. It’s not a big request.. I could say the same of any game that’s ‘always online’ when it’s not everything is gone.. Everyones hard work, time it’s all flushed and that is just a bad direction for gaming media to go. Period.
hopefully people will be able to archive it similar to sonic runners and make an offline playable version
Man I feel bad for people who bought skins from the game and can't even use then now. I wouldve been pissed off.

All the skins are cosmetics, but yeah, King never refunded anyone..
i love the crash bandicoot in Netflix. But the crash team rumble is something to think about. Why is coco is facing against crash.
The fact that I never even seen announcements or ads about this game and it did this well is mindblowing
as much as I didn't enjoy this game that much, I'm glad I got to play it a bit while I could it still saddens me that this game is going to be lost forever though
This game was a huge missed opportunity, even tho it pulled big numbers it was poorly managed. I was a very active player, I defeated all the bands and hoarded thousand of weapons just in case we got new stuff in the game, sadly that never arrived. The game was unfinished, it had a lot of missing features that would come in the future but never did, a lot of game-breaking bugs that happened often by just playing the game normally, falling thru the floor, game crashes, it was so buggy that someone that played a lot treated them as features, the game became more of avoiding to crash the game while trying to get as far as possible. Completely mismanaged and when it went on a hiatus and the month passed I knew it was over.
Such a long wait to be taken this soon.
I was actually able to download crash on the run past February 16th, but the game doesn't work.
Unfortunately Crash On The Run wasn't intended to be a "long investment game" such as Subway Surfers, Temple Run, and many other runner based games. It was basically a "cash grab" game focusing on short term profit. And it's sad that most of the games out there will always follow this trend of trying to monetize as much as possible in exchange of ruining the game at long term. King could have avoided that but because of the lack of organization/communication (or whatever else happened in their studio) - they got all the blame for COTR being a "failure" from the community. Imagine a game with massive amounts of downloads being unable to produce 1 year of content and being permanently shutdown before 2 years of launch... Unbelieveable.
I feel the worst for people who bought crystals and now are basically screwed out of money
PLEASE MAKE A FAN SERVER EVERYONE. i really want to play the game.
I stopped playing when the changed the whole UI on making items and stuff and I couldn't choose the henchmen I wanted to fight first
Really loved this game. The fact that this game is now done for, THAT REALLY STEAMS ME UP!!!!!!!
4:22 omg the legend
Honestly I am not surprised by this. At first, i LOVED the game! Then they released updates to the game and I lost interest. Its lacking something but I just dont know what it is. It just got really boring and repetitive. And not in a good way. Ive played repetitive games before and liked them. This one just missed the spot with me. Sad to see it go tho
4:22 CHARLE REFERENCE
I wonder if anyone could like, snag the game itself just in case for outside source usage that will allow them to play? This is a big ouch moment though, to say the least.
Well this is just sad I’m not really a fan of mobile games so I never downloaded the game But man I feel bad for the people who played this game I hate it that lost media is becoming more and more common we need to fix this issue we need to dedicate ourselves to saving lost media and making it available for everyone also another thing I hate is limited runs for merchandise and games it’s so freaking stupid
Looking forward to the followup!
I played COTR during the Spyro event and... it was fine not a ground breaking by any mean but still I can see people enjoying it. Gad I could play it for a bit
BTW, I can't play the damn game even right now, because I haven't updated it in a while and game has been taken down from App Store. And the game doesn't start until I update it, so even though servers are still working, I just can't play it...
The more you think about it, mobile games in general died really really fast.
Why not make that game a port to consoles and pc? In that way it gets preserved and stays playable
I was looking foward to trying this game out… Rip I guess… ?
I hated the game frankly. But the issues with it basically extend to most free to play mobile games. Even if the game was incredibly fun, the progression was just beyond tedious. I hope this model of monetisation dies off entirely.
If they had Tawna playable in the game, they would have expanded its longevity 10 fold!
This was the game that should've been permanently added to the franchise on all consoles and not Crash Team Rumble. This was so well done and a game you could just keep playing for new challenges and courses (which were probably fairly easy to build and could've kept being added).
Fingers crossed cotr lives on in the crash team rumble game as a game mode of sorts, the game shutting down is a bummer they had plenty of icons on the hub world marked as "coming soon" but never implemented which is something non of us will ever get to see 🏃♂️💀
lets hope people save the game assets and make a fan server to keep the game running. much like the sonic fanbase has done with sonic runners.
