Yup, I removed that hot key entirely from my keyboard a long time ago XD
I remember that happened to us a lot where our ships would just stop working in the air and crash.
@ShiftyshadowTV
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that happened a lot in our Pertam playthrough.
Wheels (w/o suspension parts) have an attachment point so you can use them as a buffer disk on the bottom of crafts. A quality of life practice I have that might be helpful is I have a timer block trigger my "doors" group to close and then start the timer block on again set at 2-3 seconds. Next module idea: If I may assume the plan is to not take the entire structure down to heavy planet gravity, maybe a simple habitat module? Maybe 1 big cargo, survival unit, O2 gen, solar/hydro engine. That way if something happens on the surface you aren't spawning all the way back in space and aren't risking all the modules to other players.

Yeah, wheels work good as bumpers. They use parts I cannot produce myself though, otherwise I would probably have been using them. I also usually put my doors on a closing timer. I set it for 20 seconds though, so they don't close in my face right after I open them as often. XD Yup the plan is to keep the station in space. I'll take some sort of landing ship down to planets most likely. Though I do like the idea of a mini habitat module I could take down. I'll probably give that a go one of the times. Having extra habitat room up at the station while it's docked would always be welcome too.

Awesome stuff , thank you

So after watching the two most recent videos, i subscribed and went and watched from ep1. Definately a challenge only doing small grid, looking forward to seeing where you go from here.

@@MorbinNecrim86 Gland you're enjoying it and tanks for the sub! It has been a long journey getting to where I am, and there is still so much to do. I've learned a lot along the way and am looking forward to new challenges as I go.
I've had my flier drop hard like you did several times on Pertam just in the last couple days (in single-player). I thought it was triggered by me toggling the braking/backward thrusters off while cruising and back on, or that my batteries were overloaded, but later confirmed neither to be true. It seems like it happens when slowing down from a fast speed (100m/s for me), even if doing so by nosing-up hard. I've never had it happen before where it wasn't due to battery overload (which is exactly what it's acting like), so it must be a bug that's specific to Pertam. My current solution is to fly higher to give me more recovery time, and toggle all thrusters off and back on. I'll have to try your method of toggling inertia dampers to see if that's more effective. Also, survival kits are not airtight on any face. You asked for suggestions: Once in space, you can take on mayday signals (and their drones) for the parts you cannot make. :)

Yeah, I haven't pinned down the bug, but it has happened to me on Earth, Mars, and Pertam. I've also started flying higher for the same reason. I thought as much about the survival kits, that's why I decided to enclose the one on the hub module entirely. Luckily large cargo containers are airtight on the large connector surface so the cargo module is also airtight. I've never done a mayday signal. I'll have to try that once I get around to making a small combat ship. Should be fun, thanks for the idea!
You can try to make a small hangar where you can fit one or two drones inside

Hmmm, small grid hangar, I kinda like that idea.
The moment the player disconect message appers on screen you lost power to your upward thruster’s…. No visual flammes from them.

It may have something to do with the player disconnecting, but it's unlikely because it happened again the next time I flew over there without a player disconnecting. It seemed to correspond better with my grid unloading (indicated by the streaming circle at the bottom). Unsure though, the disconnect is worth noting.
A huge mining ship

Would be cool, but the only thing I can process in this playthrough is stone. So it might not be that useful.
do you plan to post your space base in the work shop? either as inividual module or the hole thing?
@ShiftyshadowTV

I plan to post the modules as I retire them (or when the series ends). Same for the ships and rovers. I'll make a Small Grid Only blueprint collection on the Steam Workshop. (It's not high on my priority list, but it will be done.)
sometimes when you fly near an enemy ship it turns off your relative speed dampening, maybe this bug is related?

It might be.
Did you ever think about adding the small grid production mod? And there’s one for the oxygen tank that looks like the hydrogen tank

I'm playing on a public server with vanilla setting and no mods (as part of this challenge). If I do another small grid only playthrough I'll definitely be adding mods though. Would be cool to have full capabilities.

@@ShiftyshadowTV I'm currently doing a small grid only playthrough with AwwScrap. Means I NEED a production mod too. I'm using AQD Small Grin Expansion which offers a basic assembler, refinery, jump drive, grav gen, and ejector sized connector port. All are incredibly useful when you can't just salvage parts from other grids.
@ShiftyshadowTV

@@AngryDuck79 For sure, you definitely need some sort of proper production.
Docking pod or hydroponic pod

Hydroponic pod would be cool, I don't have access to any planty blocks in small grid vanilla though. What do you mean by docking pod? For stations, or other ships?

I have a pretty good working theory as to what was happening, but it's definitely a bug if I'm right. Needs a lot more testing before I'm certain though.

Haha, yeah. I use [T] for push-to-talk, which I have on while recording so that I don't have to deal with all the odd background noises in my edits. I end up spamming tttttttttttttttttt is almost everything.

Unfortunately not, I've been flying around with that ship on the planet for months with no issues, including that exact route. And right after the crash I took an identical ship to the same spot and it flew fine.
This unloading bug plus grids sinking under mesh is what turned me away from playing Space Engineers, at least on official servers
@ShiftyshadowTV

Yeah, it's always been a problem on dedicated servers (some more than others). Mostly when your grid gets over 3 to 5 thousand blocks, so for many people it's uncommon.
