How can you not get inspired after watching an Aaron Draplin talk?!

I am a stay at home mom and lost my creativity. I came across your videos about 3 years ago and they have awaken my creativity.. Thank you.

I got to see this live during my junior year of studying design. Draplin is the nicest guy to talk to!

I love Donald Trump. And I love Aaron Draplin. I dont care about his politics. I love his design. I work with a super lefty. In fact he admits hes a full blown communist. But when it comes to our work, we are right on point. We leave politics out of it.

I'm confused by these comments. Art is naturally political. As a guy that has designed for Obama and Sanders, politics seems like a part of what got Draplin to the AIGA stage.

These people complaining wouldn't say one word if the guy was reinforcing their political and ideological beliefs. They're just butthurt hearing ideas outside of their 4chan, r/thedonald ecochambers. These same people dismiss celebrities being actively political (as if celebrities are not human citizens of this country and shouldn't hold and voice their beliefs), and yet they don't say a word when Ted Nugent or whatever other B-list stars are conservative speak their minds. This is America dammit, if you're lucky enough to have a mic thrust upon you, feel free to use it! If you don't like what you're hearing, don't listen. If you want to be a poor little woe-is-me snowflake in a comments section of a youtube video, you're more than welcome to, just as others are free to mock your little snowflake self that can't stand to hear ideas outside of your narrow belief structure and think everybody just needs to shut up and bow down to our p@$$ygrabber-in-chief.

Art is NOT naturally political. This is like the difference between designers that are artists and design just for marketing and prostituting people, ideas and products. Essentially prostituting art for power, or profit, etc. The ol SPIN FACTORY and SPIN DOCTORS, yeah? The bullshitting and airbrushing arm of the biz. That bit where they say you don't actually need to be a real artist to be a graphic designer. Look, you're actually conflating political campaign graphic design which is blatant spin factory crap to ART and we ALL KNOW its art of BULLSHIT and SHIT ON A SHINGLE and politics is about as NATURAL to ART as RAPE and PROSTITUTION are to sex, man. And the disagreement would come up more with graphic design because not everyone IN graphic design is an ARTIST. What you mean is MARKETING but from a PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVE, no matter how you slice it AIGA is an apolitical PROFESSIONAL organization so what he did was unprofessional, low level, low culture and inappropriate. He took advantage of the invitation to speak about the CRAFT try to brain rape people. He dumped on the craft when he did it.

Many people commenting on the politics of the speech, and I get it, but I think the core of it is simply the negativity. Personally, I had no qualms with how excited he was for his work with Berny or on other political endeavors. Great. I was happy for him. He has a level of passion that shows in his designs. And for that, he has my utmost respect, seriously. However, when you ostracize half your audience by attacking them needlessly ad hominem from the start, and pepper more throughout sneeringly, they naturally become defensive, as anyone would. I think we can all agree it simply wasn't a tactful or wise approach. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aaron is not a stoic. He has passion for what he does. Sometimes designers have political clients.

I love this dude, i have the most respect for him, he's a rockstar designer to me... But i don't agree with his politics.

Talk to me now how you feel about the administration. Leave politics out of this type of forum

The best part about Aaron Draplin talking politics is that wet get to weed out the people who are most offended by it. Ironically it's the same kind of people that have fallen in love with the term "snowflake."

I LOVE Draplin. Love his heart and his personality. He'll always be my favorite designer. But for someone who's so pro-hard work, pro-diy, pro-blue collar, "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" attitude, he sure wants the government to do a lot for him... I'd love to go to one of his talks, but if he keeps virtue signaling, and spouting about politics he knows nothing about, I'll save my money. I get it. He does work for his favorite politicians. That's cool. But shut up with the republican hating. Shit.

Wouldn't matter if people allowed it or not, he took advantage of an opportunity created for him to present his perspectives about other things to bombard people with his unsolicited political opinions instead. AIGA is a professional organization, not a POLITICAL organization.

AD is in Portland, so its a given in his case, but I'm a little shocked at how many designers are left-leaning. It's really unfortunate that he felt the need to bring up his politics. He's still a logo genius, I just turn the volume down when he's letting his liberal flag fly.

Ruined his own presentation by constantly sprinkling his virtue signaling. We get it dude, You hate Trump. boohoo. You're preaching to the choir.

Love his work but time to put politics aside and just talk about the hard work. Could care less about your political views when it's not needed. It takes away his presence and creative mind to bring up shit that we all already know.
