Craft Fair Christmas Trees - Wood turning

Mini Christmas Trees made from CLS Construction pine.
Standing about 15cm (6 inches) tall these trees make a lovely gift as they are, or equally could be painted as a craft project for children.
I'm slowly getting the better with my round skew, which makes producing these trees really simple.

*If you shop through these links, I may receive a small commission. The price is the same for you, but it helps support me as a beginner woodturner in my quest to get a better lathe to make even bigger projects, and I really appreciate it!
Note this is NOT an instructional video, or designed for any education purposes, it is simply my own personal steps on my wood turning journey.

Well done. For a craft fair product, what ever it takes to speed up the process. Well done.

Nice one! Great to see the skew out as well. One thing i would say is try to slice the end grain under cuts rather than scrape, i.e. rotate the skew nearly 90degrees and itll give the undercuts and the top of the tub a super finish. Not super easy with a 1/2" round skew, i tend to use the 6mm micro skew for that. I'm sure there are examples on my channel. Cheers Dave

Thank for the tip. Yeah, I'm still a work in progress with the skew, fewer and fewer catches each time 👍

Great Minds & all that 😁I've also got a workshop of Christmas trees and other ornaments currently ahead of the craft fairs - it's interesting to see how your approach to creating these differs to mine. I've also been getting some much need practice with the Skew although wishing I'd bought a round having seen this. Hope you have a profitable time at the Craft Fair!

Hi nice trees, I hope they sell well. I have recently bought the same lathe as you use and am wanting a tool rest like yours. Can you please tell me where you got it from. Thanks

I bought the longer tool rest on Amazon amzn.to/3MxSJFB There are slightly more expensive ones with quicker delivery. I think that it took about 2 weeks to arrive. Hope that you are enjoying your lathe! 👍

www.toolsandtimber.co.uk/hamlet-1-2-round-skew-chisel-10-handle This is the one I bought. It's out of stock, but I'm sure that other stores might stock it. It's already earned it money back and then some!

Nice set of trees. The skew definitely gives a much better finish than the gouge. Do you always make them all the same design & size?

Sort of. They generally range in size between 5 to 7 inches.

@@RDMWoodturning This year I settled on three basic styles for the trees I made. I’m not good at getting things exactly the same so having three different styles helps. Also made it less mundane when turning
