Cpl. Kyle Carpenter Attends Operation Proper Exit

This video tells the story of five Wounded Warrior heroes who visited troops assigned to Train Advise Assist Command-East at Tactical Base Gamberi Thursday. The visit was part of Operation Proper Exit, an opportunity for the heroes to return to Afghanistan to receive their well-deserved proper exit. The heroes are: USMC Corporal (Ret) Kyle Carpenter (Medal of Honor Recipient), U.S. Army Master Sergeant (Ret) Leroy Petry (Medal of Honor Recipient), U.S. Army Sergeant Tom Block (2014 Army Times Soldier of the Year), U.S. Army Sergeant (Ret) Ralph Cacciapaglia, and U.S. Army Corporal (Ret) Steve Martin. TAAC-E was honored and privileged to host these heroes. Help us thank them for their service and sacrifice. (U.S. Army video by Capt. Charlie Emmons, TAAC-E Public Affairs). ‪

@@mileskings7022 for the Americans, yes, but they still train afghan forces and help to fight with them sometimes. But for the talibans and afghan forces, no its not over.

As a Brit (and ex squaddy), i'm usually first in line when it comes to ripping the piss out of Americans! But my God they do some things very, very well.... Operation Proper Exit.... what a fantastic idea, and a wonderful way of allowing wounded warriors to return and exit the field on their own terms. Brilliant!

Well said mate, im ex British Army myself. The level of treatment wounded British soldiers get is a disgrace. The people at help for heroes, and the royal british legion are great and amazing people. But it is the after care that is lacking, trying to get a job, home, pay bills. Even they way people treat you is different. We can learn alot from the Americans when it come to this topic.

Wonderful! I have a question. I’m a retired Psychologist who specialized in treating people with PTSD. Do you have a program where doctors like myself can volunteer time to work with our brave returning Warriors? I’m very serious about this and would like to help them. Please let me know. I live in Washington State, but I’ve had the opportunity to teach university courses on the internet in the Psychology of Disasters as well as dealing with the impact of trauma on first responders. I’m very concerned about the rates of suicide in the military during operation, and more frequently when they return home. This epidemic is not only occurring among our troops, the problem is also rippling into service families, and treatment providers. I keep hearing that psychological services are generally inadequate or unavailable. This problem has to be addressed, or we will still be dealing with suicides 20 years from now. Depression, survival guilt, addiction, injuries, divorces, etc. are overwhelming the VA’s recourses. I have been told by officers I have treated, that they feared losing their careers if it became known that they were seeing a shrink for marital or personal problems. I’ve trained literally hundreds of lay and professional counselors and peer mentors over the decades to provide help to returning military personnel, as well as law enforcement and other first responders. Such an approach, I believe is desperately needed, just to address our Warriors mental health needs as well as their loved ones. We serve as volunteers, and Patriots. My email address is:lorismith60@icloud.com, if you think the military could use retired professionals like me, on a voluntary basis. Thank you. Dr. Lori A. Smith.
