CP4 DELETE!!! HOW TO INSTALL DCR Pump

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

💪Watch Wade install the NEW S&S Diesel Motorsport DCR Pump for a Ford 6.7L. DELETE that CP4 today!!!! This cutting-edge aftermarket product replaces the problematic CP4 fuel pump with a more dependable DCR pump, solving the widely-known CP4 high-pressure fuel pump problem plaguing Ford Super Duty trucks using the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine.
The CP4 has a well-earned reputation for failing without warning, creating sudden power loss, and taking out the expensive high-pressure fuel system in the process. Despite having to deal with being broken down on the side of the road, truck owners will be facing fuel system repairs that can easily exceed $10,000. The unreliable reputation is supported by recalls and lawsuits leveled at various auto manufacturers that use the CP4 in their production vehicles.
The S&S Diesel Motorsport Ford 6.7L CP4 to DCR Pump Conversion can save Ford Super Duty truck owners $10,000 to $15,000 in fuel system repairs and impart peace of mind knowing that their daily workhorse isn't going to let them down. The conversion kit includes everything you need for a direct replacement and easy installation. The S&S-PurePower engineering team currently has DCR Conversions being validated all over North America in all types of conditions and climates, with the goal of bringing a well-refined and proven product to the market.
Upgrade your Ford Super Duty truck with the S&S Ford 6.7L CP4 to DCR Conversion today!

Because they have a contract for xx amount of years with a certain manufacturer that they just have to use. Cannot breach contract. The cp4 has been revised but still the same design and failures. Just lesser the common. They won't redesign an entirely new pump to replace it. All diesels are dealing with the same cp4 junk.

Thanks Wade and team! Great install video!! Start to finish, excellent. I will be doing the conversion and this video will be the manual. I've taken the components down close to that far (not the fan clutch) to install an EGR cooler replacement and S&S competitors CP4 disaster prevention system,(Mistake) which I did not, due to the FCR hitting the lower intake. Would have had to grind the lower intake for clearance. Not what I wanted or expected to do! Not happy. As I have the Mishimoto CCV kit on my 14, so I couldn't use the S&S DP kit. Great Video. I bought one here in Florida on thursday and put it in over the weekend. Your Video helped immensely, especially the side bar telling the time for each segment. I did get a couple of codes about communication from the ecm when I first started it up but I cleared them in my ezlynk and so far nothing has came back up. One other thing that might be worth mentioning is both the cam gear and the pump gear had 2 marks on them so make sure you take a picture with your phone before you pull the pump gear off.

Concerning putting it all back together and then testing for leaks, once you get all the lines hooked back up can you just energize the lift pump for low pressure side if there are any leaks at that point you wont have to tear it all back apart. For the high side no other option but to have truck buttoned back up for that pressure test. Just a thought.

Looks like S&S could save a ton of install effort by giving 3 new studs for mounting the pump, updated with a small hex head and the ability to install them after setting the pump in place. I couldn't tell from the video if they stick out far enough to thread by hand after pump placement with the existing studs.

I have 231,000 miles on my 11, 6.7PS. I just returned to the lower 48 from Tuktoyaktuk, NWT, Canada on the Arctic Ocean via Montana. I live on the Left Coast. I talk to 6.7 owners wherever I go. The Alaska Highway had hundreds, maybe thousands of 6.7s pulling large trailers up and down steep grades to and from Alaska. My 6.7 is stock other than being S&S bypass kit, just in case I’m wrong. I talked to the Ford Diesel Mechanic in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory on the Alaska Highway and asked about the number of CP4 failures he sees. According to him it is an all but non-existent problem and so far I AGREE, as long as the Bosh CP4 pump pumps diesel, NOT DEF, NOT WATER, NOT AIR and NOT GASOLINE it does its job and keeps on keeping on. I have yet to talk to anyone with a CP4 failure. Does anyone know the percentage of CP4 failures vs. the number of pumps in service that have ONLY PUMPED DIESEL FUEL and not otherwise been contaminated? I’ll wager it is a small, almost non-existent percentage.

My new F250 Platinum should be here in a week or two. This is my first diesel truck and the most expensive vehicle i have ever purchased. I am pretty handy and have rebuilt a few gas engines and built a few hot rods over the yers. I was under the impression that just doing regular fule filter changes would be enough to extend the life the CP4 pump. After watching a few videos on the DCR pump I am not so confident now. Should i just do the DCR upgrade right away? Or at least the disater kit you mentioned? I was going to tint the windows first. LOL. But this seems more important.

Surely it will make it long enough to tint the windows first, you cant be riding around in a coke bottle! Congrats on your new truck. I think it will come into question on the new new trucks out there are you willing to potentially void your warranty with installing a DCR? Although they shouldn’t do it, a dealership could very well black label you for it. While in warranty, keep your fuel filters changed, use good fresh fuel and consider doing the disaster prevention kit.

  • @stuartbrazile

Use the Motorcraft cetane booster at every fill up. It has a lubricity additive that helps prolong the life of the cp4. I just completed the DCR conversion today and my cp4 lasted 150k miles without failing. I truly believe the cetane booster is the reason it never failed. I plan to continue using it with the DCR. Also, don’t ever “upgrade” the plastic factory fuel filters with steel ones. When water gets in your fuel the steel filters will rust. The plastic factory filters can’t rust!

HELP, I have a deleted 2020 F250 Powerstroke. I installed the DCR fuel pump. Everything back together. Truck starts and runs, but the turbo does not do anything. Turbo boost just sits a zero. Any idea on what I did or did not do???

When installing the new DCR pump, is it necessary to install the disaster prevention kit? or you only have to install the DCR thanks

Only need to install the DCR. The DPK is designed to work with a CP4 truck, it actually has no functionality with the DCR pump.

My cp4 went on me. Heads up for all 6.7 owners, mine was a 2016 well maintained, tuned and deleted for longevity. Absolutely no warning motor just cut off while driving. I ordered this S&S DCR pump. Question is it necessary to change all rails, fuel line or can they just be cleaned?

  • @thoroughbreddiesel

YES! We cannot stress this enough. If you pull the cp4 FCA out and there is metal there, you need to change all high side components. Injectors, lines, rails, lift pump, and clean the tank.

I'm gonna put a Mishimoto radiator and intercooler in this spring. That's going to encompass removing a lot of the parts in front of the engine. While in there, I'm going to inspect EVERYTHING I can get my hands on and replace or rebuild anything I deem necessary on a truck with over 350K miles, including belts, belt tensioner, vacuum pump, both water pumps and both alternators. I dont want to tear all that apart more than once if I can help it.

Doom and gloom aside, what is the actual failure rate of the CP4 percentage wise? Does anyone actually know or is everyone on the internet just blindly feeding off the fears of a few actual documented failures?

  • @thoroughbreddiesel

    @thoroughbreddiesel

We don’t get the platform wide failure numbers, however it was great enough for two companies to (Dodge and GM) to stop using CP4’s. They can argue all the “this isn't as bad as it seems” that they want, fact remains, when these pumps do fail, send their failures downstream to the rest of your high side components. Gets expensive.

Fuel additives with increased lubricant Good fuel stations (high volume) Change them fuel filters You do this and you are good to go. Lots of folks get 200k out of a pump. With that being said though you can get a nasty batch of fuel and it just destroys the pump.

During the DCR validation testing for 2011-2019 model years, S&S did not find a benefit to timing the DCR pump to the engine. However, for 2020+ model years there is a small NVH benefit to timing the pump specifically when the ECM commands a certain rail pressure control mode at light engine load. For this reason and to retain product commonality across the model years, S&S recommends to time the DCR on all model years according to the S&S installation instructions. A future change to the DCR pump in Q4 2023 will add a roll pin to the pump shaft at which point the timing process will match the OEM Ford CP4 timing procedure for all model years.
