Cowboy Camping and Bushcraft Sleep System Fail?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I do some more 1860's #CowboyCamping as I develop my ability to tolerate cold temps. We see if my bushcraft sleep system is a failure or not.
I live offgrid and am working toward living a hunter gatherer lifestyle combined with other bushcraft and homestead lifestyle skills. It's just me, my three dogs, my eight horses, two goats and eleven chickens out here in the sagebrush hills or at my farm property on a creek.
A few years ago I made the decision to finally live the life I'd wanted to live since I was young and these videos are of me learning and practicing the skills needed for that lifestyle. Life is a whole lot better Over on the Wild Side!

excellent video! thats the same way i wrap up in blankets. i don't like having the blanket over my head but my shoulders get cold if i dont. so what i figured out is to use a scrap of blanket that i cut a hole in. i wear it like a poncho inside my blanket roll. keeps me warm. also if your feet are getting cold try putting a couple of fist size hot rocks between the layers of blanket at your feet. dont burn yer bed roll 😁. take care and i look forward to see what yer up to next time.

Ah, we LOVE your videos! Thanks for including the horses. Those initial outtakes rocked =) So cool to learn what was important to each of your dog friends. They obviously adore you =) Your cold conditioning is going great! That was really fascinating with the meat -- I remember my brother, when he was in Mongolia for two years, telling me that you could eat any meat, no matter how "bad" it was, if you cooked it long enough. Sounds like it was delicious! Funny that you're out in the bush eating meat that would probably be pretty expensive if you bought it in the city, aged that long!! =) Ha! I love how you took a "fail" as such a success -- learning, enjoying adventure, and developing a few more "cold resistance points"!

I'm thinking the old bed roll with canvas on the outside and blankets on the inside might be better for your sleep system. I think the Aussies call the swag rolls. Being a little cold, and waking up a couple times IS NOT a fail. Do you think people were always comfy back then? Hell, even modern campers aren’t always warm and comfy. Besides, the body can adapt amazingly to harsh conditions, but it takes time, amd to really live it a lot. I had a buddy who worked in construction out here in Quebec. He came to the cottage during a winter trip. There was no space for him to sleep, so he took one little blanket, and lay on the cold floor. In the morning snow had blown under the door and covered his back. This was a cabin with no heat, other than the fireplace, and an uninsulated floor. He was fine, while us in the bed with bags found it a bit cold. So…..

I have a 7’ x 8’ Sunforger canvas (water resistant treated cotton canvas). I bought a few yards and paid an upholsterer to see it up for me.
