I've found & restored 6 pack cars, a hemi challenger & many others in over 4 decades. I still get calls from new/old owners about them. To me, this is the best satisfaction anyone can hope for...that the cars continue to survive, be appreciated etc. I continue to own them. Its getting difficult to find the better bodies/frames etc. If you have this dream don't lose it, but you may need to be quite tenacious considering what you're willing to start with when it comes to the more rare/low production number vehicles. Remember, the dream is only over when you concede. I NEVER conceded.

My dad owned a rare mopar 68 Plymouth GTX 440 super commando with a auto and 4.10 gears! It ran 12’s at the Detroit drag way and with slicks ran 11’s completely stockish! My dad worked at the factory so who knows what they really done to his car when they was building it or after they built it! It was known to be faster then it was supposed to be. It would outrun the hemi’s through a 1/4 mile then they would blow around him, but for a 1/4 mile he owned those hemi’s! Got the trophy’s and time slips to prove it to! He won many many 440 class trophy’s!

440's and 426 street hemi's were tick-for-tock equal, on the 1/4...a fact little mentioned. Depending on the day, the weather, and which bird flew over, the 440 could take the 426...but that doesn't make a legendary car...since a 440 was 13 cubic inches (published) larger than the 427 of GM's ilk. Doing it with a 426 was 'makings of a legend'. Add in 'slicks' and a rarely, if ever issued 4.10:1 gearing, along with Sure-Grip and a 'massaged Automatic' (KNOWN faster, if you add a shift kit, which is nothing but valve body 'manipulation' to allow faster hydraulic locking)...and you easily can cut half-a-second off a clock time...but none of it was done 'OEM'...so, it equals 'slower time'. You can test this by simply timing any automatic against a 4/5-speed, then swapping out the metering plate on the auto valve body to a 'shift kit'...and you can drop anywhere from 0.1 to 0.3 seconds...just on that one-change (and with a 'competition shift kit', you can also become MORE time-consistent, when racing 'handicap' (where you 'dial-in') than ANY manual.

As i under stand it early in the 1970 challenger model year. If you ordered the shaker hood you got the standard RT hood. A lawsuit was filed against Chrysler to get the hood and after that it was available. Look up The Black Ghost, a triple black challenger with a 426 hemi 4spd track pack 410 gears. I think the seats had the hounds tooth center fabric. The owners son now has the car.

I missed the last episode because I didn't know of this channel. I subscribed almost immediately (around the 1 minute mark). I've got a big soft spot for old Chrysler products (like the original run of the Power Wagon and related Era 4x4's, Chargers, Challengers, Super Bee's, Satellites, Barracuda's, Roadrunner's, the 340, 440, 426 hemi, the 527 and 572 racing hemi's...I could go on, but I won't). A big item on my bucket list is to restomod a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, 426...not sure if I should go with the fuel injection or a dual carb on a roots style super charger (turbo and muscle cars just don't go together, in my opinion, boost it with a roots or not at all). Top of the line brakes, suspension, drive train, instruments, maybe a minimal and mostly hidden aerodynamics package, NO ORANGE or that awful LIGHT GREEN of the time but Plumb Crazy Purple or gloss black with metal fleck might make it visually pop, and some other things).

Mike Ray,,, you can build ANYTHING you want now. But the factory NEVER offered the 383 in Hemi configuration. There was a company selling Hemi heads that could be bolted onto any RB or B block and they were called Stage V engineering. But that was back in the 90's and early 2000's. Don't know if they are still around or not.....

In the mid 70's Ford was starting get away from building your own car with options. The price of cars started to rise and rise, because they automatically came with air, power steering, power brakes, power windows, etc. I bought a new 70 Mach I that didn't have air. That's unheard of now a days. You get more on a car today, but the costs are inflated by the dealer, to maintain profit margins. That's why an average car might cost $40K.

And I noticed another thing that's making prices crazy on new cars. Aluminum. Notice how many of those pork butt SUVs have all kinds of ally suspension arms and crap underneath them. To keep the weight down. Imagine if it was all steel it would weigh so much more. It's silly but I noticed the rear hatch door of the bosses expedition is made of aluminum. Great tech for a useless pos type of vehicle.
