In reality singapore will never enter a shooting war with China. It’s all about trade and the economy. And singapore is too deeply enmeshed with China. It’s always policy to try and be nice to both China and the US.

Going to Singapore often over 20 years it can been seen that the Chinese influence has made huge strides. I do believe Singapore will work to be the Switzerland of Asia however they will need to break their defence packs with Western Nations which will cause some issues for Singapore. Singapore will have some tough decisions to make in the coming future and with not being in a regional war it will cripple their economy. It may not be the country we know of today after years of war in SEA.

Is this guy for real? Did he not use google maps to at least measure some of the southern island he claims China would send 10,000 troops to occupy? First of all some of them are landfill island, second they are only around 3km long, which means several hundred troops with modern fire support from the air and sea is enough to take it. The more realistic situation would be to use the overwhelming air and naval power to bombard a section of the main island to dust, and when the local Singaporean forces are decimated, the PLA marine would conduct an uncontested landing.

Great scenario but there are some points to make though : 1) Singapore's submarines would most likely not be launched in a suicide attack on the chinese carrier task force out in the open South China Sea. Instead they would be reserved and kept well hidden until the amphibious landings take place. Then they would be of infinite value against transport ships and their escorts in the narrow Singapore Straits. 2) in the event of war, the Police Coast Guard patrol boats and fast craft would be placed under naval command. Hiding these vessels in small coves along the mainland and islands' coastline would allow swift hit and run attacks on landing craft as they disembarked from their LSTs and amphibious docks. This would be difficult to counter even with air superiority. 3) Given the long time frames (6-10 months!) between the first aerial attacks and the actual amphibious landings and airborne operations, critical supplies could be stockpiled underground, for instance in the train tunnels. These would also be used for movement and communications in Fighting in Built Up Areas (FIBUA) operations. Thus, a long war could potentially be fought, even without air superiority.

Singapore gets 40-60% of its water from Malaysia, the rest from reclamation & desalination plants; all fixed locations. From week 1, China will turn off the pipes from Malaysia and hit the water plants with air & missile strikes. After 6-months of not enough water for its ~6,000,000 population and Singapore would have to capitulate. If any readers have been through a summer in Singapore, they'd understand the misery, sanitation nightmare & diseases a lack of water in the tropics would cause.

Actually, Singapore has large water reservoirs and catchment basins--most of what is not paved over, is reserved for that purpose. But yes, extreme water conservation would need to occur. Also, the strait between Malaysia and Singapore is only about 1 km wide and less than 2 meters deep in places. Some water could continue to be ferried through plastic pipes, firehoses, barges, etc. Remember in this scenario, China cannot attack the Malaysia side. Trying to repeatedly bomb every pipe, hose and barge with aircraft operating from the Chinese island bases will be very inefficient.

@@slslbbn4096 Current condition will probably changed in future depending on the flow of the international politic. Similarly to Singapore, the largest foreign trade in Malaysia is China while USA is in 7th place. Yet Malaysia still having some problems with China as to protect it own interest. And this is why despite Asean countries doing trade with superpowers, they are playing neutral as to avoid being absord or influenced by those countries. And to balance the influence of those countries in the area. As for Singapore, despite it become one of largest top investor in China, United States, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Japan, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Bermuda and Hong Kong are top 8 largest source of investment in Singapore. And it is located strategically at the entrance of SCS. As China is bold in expanding their influence and economy, this can be seen either as "threat" or strategical point to expand themselves economically and strategically or to have full access in controlling the SCS. You already seen how they play in SCS, slowly gaining control of the area by claiming island, establishing human island, positioning their military in the SCS area. Who know next what happen, probably they will forced Asean neighbours to accept their influence and after that their target is Singapore. As they will say, "Why would we let other have that strategic point while we can grab it by force and own it for ourselves.?" This is why, every countries always focus on protecting their interest first while make a bussines deal with other countries.

Depending on the objectives of why China wants to attack Singapore in the first place, it's quite likely that China brings in Malaysia and/ or Indonesia to divide up the spoils. A small motivation given to them and they will side with China. They want us removed from the region afterall. China is not likely to attack while US maintains an attachment here in Singapore. The chance of hitting a US military hardware here is quite big. It will likely do so at a time when US forces have left the island. Let's not kid ourselves. The only force that matters in the 5 power agreement is US. Sure, UK and Australia might send a token force, it's not going to affect the outcome. It doesn't matter if they come to our aid or not. As a Singaporean serving thru the 2.5yrs national service & complete 10yrs of reservist training, I know what weapons we have (incl. Qty & capability) & China have dozens times more & just as capable. SG don’t stand any chance once the Air Force & Navy are out of action. SG is never an offensive armed forces. Our fight must be far away with our Air Force & Navy on the frontline of conflict to deter any approach towards SG. Combined, both Air Force & Navy could only buy time (how long, well it depends but will be much shorter than what stated this video) if China is well prepared unlike Russia. SG Ground Forces with approx. 250k troops (incl. reservists) will build up defend on all our islands. Despite our best effort, China with air & sea control need not waste time to take on the smaller islands & just go straight to the main island. My take is 3mths at most & it game over cos unlike Ukraine, SG have no depth people can only esc to the north & that about it. Although I’m no longer active in the army forces, trust me, I will bear arms & put up a defend against any invading arms forces to come.

But the natural position of Singapore, geographically, strategically, socially historically even forces us into being a melting port of trade routes, cultures, and therefore democratic by nature. Universal and open to all. I mean this islands fate has been such even before we were Singapore. So its in our DNA. We may lean way one or the other for a while but the balance will almost always be returned. Even now ... in the Internet era .... Singapore is physically insignificant. Will cost little more to fly over our borders to set up air and sea ports left and right of Malaysia for others. I mean even a flight in trouble can glide over Singapore for an emergency landing in Malaysia if needed. Both armed forces have significant and multiple AA capabilities apart from MANPAD troops and RSAF is objectively one of the decent operational air force in terms of training, technology and maintenance. Apart from allies military involvement, early warning, air superiority, straits control, etc - all these can truly complicate the hypothesized plans even further. Also, the residents of Singapore would be suffering from lack of food and water in just 2-3 weeks...not to mention treating thousands of wounded civilians....in a month after first contact, hostilities would have to end 1: because the invasion failed at the outset and the Chinese were thrown back into the sea or 2: The Chinese used overwhelming force and knocked out the Comms between Singapore's defenders..all within the first week.....this war would be short but brutal

Singapore is very heavily urbanized, other than its nature preserves. Urban combat (trying to take territory covered with large masonry buildings) heavily favors the defender (especially when they have antitank rockets). Presumably this is exactly the scenario that the Singaporean military trains for. Taking the small islands is necessary for basing ships and aircraft--once that's done, the lowest-casualty option for China would be to starve Singapore into submission, instead of charging into urban canyons on the main island guarded by 100,000+ well-trained defenders.

Pretty much. Any large country could take Singapore, eventually. As long as they throw tens of thousands of lives, materiel, and billions of $$ into the endeavor. And the victor would end up with a bunch of burnt out islands which would never be profitable until everything was repaired. So, more sunk costs, to say nothing of international repercussions. As another Singaporean said above, we fell once. Never again. You'd have to take the main island, street by bloody street because Singapore wouldn't surrender just because we lost Tekong and Sentosa. The defence planners know that's where we have the advantage. We remember Percival and his surrender, what that brought upon us.

This hypothetical scenario aside, I wholeheartedly disagree that China will ever be successful in a real invasion of Singapore. I am Singaporean and might be a little biased but fairly knowledgable, and I'm not a military expert, but here are 6 logical reasons why: *1. Singapore will definitely receive foreign support and assistance:* Singapore has excellent relations with the US, the US is allowed to use its airbases for training and naval bases for refuelling and maintenance as part of an agreement. Singapore also conducts joint training frequently and buy tons of military equipment from the US. Singapore will definitely ally with the US and rely on it for defence in return for the US establishing a strategic military presence in the country, like they in Germany and Japan. It's not that hard for Singapore to sneak supplies across the north as big Chinese ships can not pass through, and China can't attack it for 24 hours. It is also part of the 5 power defence agreements with the UK, Australia and other countries, it can request assistance from them if absolutely necessary. It can also possibly ally with other ASEAN countries if they feel threatened by China. An attack on Singapore could ignite a greater war, likely involving ASEAN and even NATO and other Commonwealth countries. Singapore can not remain neutral and allyless in any war if it wants to live. *2. Singapore is a modern fortress:* The islands in the south of Singapore are tiny, one of them is our landfill and the rest can barely sustain any Chinese troops. Singapore can hide countless artillery pieces, armoured vehicles and troops within its huge, tall and dense urban areas. Singapore will be the modern-day siege of Leningrad, many Singaporean men have received basic military training in national service and will resist. Singapore has tons of military assets too, China would have to put up with one hell of a fight through the streets and buildings of Singapore if they can even reach it in the first place. Singapore has many military establishments too, which can defend against an invasion. *3. China's economy and supplies partially rely on Singapore:* China's merchant navy depends on Singapore to export its goods and products to Europe and other countries and imports huge amounts of oil from the middle east. Singapore can shut that route down, the US can shut down the Panama canal and their allies can close off other routes to strangle the Chinese economy. A war between both countries would destroy the ports force ships to stop passing through, severely disrupting the world's economy and might force other powers to join a side. *Other minor factors:* 4. Singapore consulted Isreal when setting up its military, and could win just like how Isreal won the Yom Kippur war against 5 big Arab countries against all odds. Isreal is also backed by the US. 5. Singapore has military assets held in Taiwan, Australia, Brunei and other countries, has close ties with them and will definitely use its assets against China in the war. China might attack these countries provoking them to fight with Singapore. 6. Singapore's population is predominantly Chinese, with many Chinese immigrants living and working in Singapore, and has many companies operating within it. The Chinese will never support an invasion of Singapore if it gets leaked in their censored press. *Conclusion:* China should not and will never attack Singapore. If they do, their best bet is to ally with Malaysia in the war (even though Malaysia would never agree to). Singapore is a country not to be reckoned with, it has learnt its lessons from the Japanese occupation that it can not rely on any foreign military powers to survive, but will call for help if necessary. Most points and facts made in this video are 100% valid and adds to my argument. *Sidenote:* As a Singaporean, I am willing to fight till my heart stops beating, if I am across the world, I will find a way back into Singapore and fight, if I'm dead, I will rise up from my grave and fight, and I believe that every true and able Singaporean will too. I also referred to other comments to add to my argument, I thank them for their help.

Singapore does not have strategic depth. Infrastructure (power, water, communications) in a small island is very close to each other. Singapore CANNOT survive any kind of bombardment. Thus for Singapore to sit back and take a purely defensive stance is to wait for defeat. The strategy outlined and played out here is a strategy countries and armies with strategic depth can afford to deploy. Singapore cannot afford to play that way. We are not Ukraine. Where the invaders can take up to 20% of the country before defenders fight the invaders to a standstill, and then begin to push them back. Singapore's strategy is to NEVER have to fight. But if we have to, we will bring it. Not wait for it.

One thing that all of his statistics and facts and figures do not cover is, Singapore soldiers would not be fighting just because the government said do it. They would be fighting for their homeland, and they would know what it means being occupied by the Chinese communist party. The Singapore people would be angry and blood thirsty, I know I would if it happened here in the US. Would the Chinese men have as much fighting determination knowing that they are invading some other country? I've been to Finland and I've been to St Petersburg Russia and I can tell you those two countries are side-by-side. But yet the Soviet Union never took them and it's because the fens were tough and determined not to let themselves be taken over, I think the people of Singapore would fight just as hard. I would also hope my country the United States would give them some material support, like some better weapons and Jets and stuff.
