    Honestly, the funny thing is, that throughout the last few months, when I really got into the technical and efficiency-based side of Cosmoteer, I learnt all of the Crew management stuff basically all by myself. This video was still immensely helpful to me though, it cleaned up some of the door placement-based things I didn't know like how you can place doors of the crew closest to the reactor *inside* the reactor for them to be able to power the inner-most ion beams at full speed. Thanks, Oneye.

  • @Oneye.

    @Oneye.

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm glad it was helpful! Starsector and Cosmoteer are different in a lot of ways, though if you like one you'll probably like the other (and many people play both). In Starsector you can customize your ships but not build them from scratch, which is the main feature of Cosmoteer. Starsector has a more full-fledged singleplayer mode with story missions, colony-building, a "real" economy, and better fleet combat and AI (though this is planned to improve in Cosmoteer). However, Cosmoteer has co-op and PVP multiplayer, as well as the Steam Workshop. Both have extensive modding capabilities, with full C# modding being planned for Cosmoteer. Basically, if you want a very good singleplayer experience with a living breathing galaxy and good lore/story play Starsector. If you want total freedom to design whatever ships you want, love optimizing and experimenting, and want co-op and PVP play Cosmoteer. I'd recommend both to anybody, as there's still a good amount of overlap.

    What are your tips for upgrading existing ships? A lot of the ships in the steam demo are upgraded by you, and do really well for how simple they seem at first.

  • @Oneye.

    @Oneye.

    2 жыл бұрын

    First I take a look and consider which parts need to be remade. If enough needs to be changed (or if it's small) I'll sometimes just go into blueprint mode, delete the entire ship, and then rebuild it while using the darkened interior view still visible "under" the build grid as a guide. If I think not much needs to be done I'll still gut the parts that need changes and rebuild them. It's usually much easier than trying to cut and paste or use the move tool. The tricky part is working around the shape and sticking to the general weapon loadout while keeping it around the same price. Not much specific advice I can give in a comment, but if you know how to plan out and build new ships then it's not that big of a jump to apply your skills to remaking parts of an existing one until you consider it big enough of an improvement. The more you learn about building in general the easier it is to recognize when something could be improved and know how to do so.

  • @Oneye.

    The large shields are blocked by things in front of them, whether that is your ship, another, or debris. So they must be placed on the outside, and you have to consider their arc. The small ones can be placed inside and don't get blocked by things.

    The thing with capacitors is, in many instances it seems easier to just build a small reactor instead. Sure in an isolated instance with the supply chain and a large reactor it works fine, but it gets really complicated when a single large reactor is supposed to supply more than that. Also shrinking the battery size to 1 can be both good and bad, or is the 3 battery size surplus accounted for when you put it into a machine requesting only 1 energy batch?

  • @Trickyman26

    @@Trickyman26 It's a two sided sword then most likely. filling capacitors in 3 patches in itself is fine with 18 total energy, but take out 1 and the next 3 refilled waste 2 energy. other way around a machine/weapon could request 1 energy and instead of filling with a 3 sized it could be satisfied with a capacitors 1 sized. But in situations with high "burst" demand your crew will waste valuable time delivering 1 sized packages.

    When loaded from the ship library (dragged) into a creative mode game the crew roles and assignments are saved. Loading a ship from inside build mode doesn't. You can save roles as default by clicking the 3-line "hamburger" menu, and then load them onto another ship, if that's what you're asking about.
