Corsair 6500D Airflow Review 6500X - The New 540 Air?

Corsair Launches the 6500X and 6500D into a sea of very similar cases. Thing is did they do it first and their horrific lead times have really shot them in the foot?

Pro-tip: Consider buying the airflow version, even if you think you'd like the glass, because you can't buy a conversion kit the opposite way... It's really silly. I regret buying the glass version now because I'd really like to mount a reservoir to the mesh-side fans.

Looks a bit meh! Typical Corsair, functional but uninspired compared to Lian Li etc.

Water cooling should never be applied to the top, because the hot air produced by the video card goes out. Water cooling should only be placed in front or on the side so that the air comes in from the outside. It is always much cooler outside than inside the house. It is 25 degrees Celsius outside and 40-45 degrees Celsius inside the house.

Just bought it, but I can't unscrew the upper hinge, the screw just rotates in place, luckily it's enough to completely remove upper hinge which is held by 3 screws, but it's still a bummer.

Despite having a 5000D I'm really liking this case.

Tom, you open the video with a statement that this is the 6500X, but it is actually the 6500D Airflow, isn't it?

As a loyal 540 owner, this is the first case for YEARS that has really exited me. some really nice touches, i think the only downside is the relative incompatibility with 140mm based builds. the mesh side is very well implemented IMO, and plenty of ways to create airflow and have a glass front for looks with no compromise to cooling. The screws alone make it worthy of the innovation award surely?

I'm still using my 540 Air Carbide with a custom water loop. This new airflow case tempts me a lot.

Price is the biggest problem here,£170 in the UK compared with the NZXT H6 flow at £100 with money as tight as it is I would definitely go with the H6 as it's just much better value for your money.

I still got my air 540 case use another now. Tho ill never get rid of the air 540 case, as for me it made my day every day using it. This new case is nice as well. Tho i hope they make 1 that'll fit a couple 420 rads in it. & a few 360 rads to go with that. Now that'll be a seriously nice case to own. Glad your channel is still around loved the content over the years Keep up the great work mate.

There is less space for cables in top and left side of the motherboard because this case is dedicated for MSI Project Zero & ASUS BTF concept motherboards where all connectors are reversed, on the back of motherboard, where all cables are hidden and not displayed in front. ASUS even do have Advance BTF which is motherboard with power connector for graphic card, so you don't have power cable sticking out from your graphic card in front of your eyes at all.

Excellent video. Really like the look of this case and the way the mesh looks. I would def want to mod this to fit 3x140mm fans on the side panel so they could match the bottom 140mm's and a single 140mm on the back.

Having the ability to replace the exterior panels with wood seems to be a clear response to the Fractal North, and I'm here for it.

How did you obtain the vertical gpu mount? I have not found one for sale anywhere. What gpu bracket did you use? My CoolerMaster bracket will not fit this case.

looking at that i'm thinking glass front a 360 rad top and bottom and a large res pump combo in where the side fan would go
