Which could be great and not so great when it comes to young men who I could be their parent. I always have to show proof of my age. For those of you who are reading my comments. FASTING is the way to go. I am a Muslim and my family and I Ramadan every December and eat one meal a day. It was very hard at first but trust me your body does get use to it. Thank you so much Dr. Jamnadas, I'm South Asian, and 3 years of working in the city, long hours, modern diet, and sedentary lifestyle and ignoring my health for career made me gain 30kgs. I went from 78kg to 113kg. Took me 2 years with 6-7 hours of cycling on the weekends, gym 4 times a week to cut the weight and start getting back in shape. Took me a lot of hard work to drop about 28kgs, and saw 85kg on the scale. But I just couldn't keep to that weight and I would shoot back to 90kgs withing 10days if I missed working out because of work or if had to travel for work. It's only been the last year since I got to your channel, along with Dr Lustig. Since then I've been watching my diet and the foods that I eat and starting fasting for one a day a week, and now it's much easier to stay in shape, and keep in good health. I've been holding my weight under 83kg, without excessive workouts, just by listening to your advice and making lifestyle changes. You've made me your lifelong follower !! Hope I can learn more and keep to a good and healthy diet.

It's all toooo much. But the things you recommed, help me realize I'm not totally crazy! You are a very wise man. I go to a medical facility for help. I asked a doc if I could do such snd such. I was told we don't do preventative?? They are finally improving. Thank you for your thoroughness. Understanding the underlying trauma going on helps support changes.

I work in the NHS and have been fortunate to work with many doctors from the Indian sub continent . Getting type 2 diabetes and then proceeding to cardiac by pass just sadly seems to be a rite of passage amongst them - even though they don't drink much alcohol and the younger ones don't smoke . Even more obviously is that they are not obese . If pre diabetes is as risky as type 2 then we urgently need insulin level screening .

My theory is it’s the vegetable/seed oils along with a ton of carbs they consume, it’s the PUFA’S that are so damaging/inflammatory combines with carbs. Most Asian cooking is chock full of the bad fats and v carb heavy. My fiancé is half Indian and I’ve educated him (whether he likes it or not) to never eat these types of fat and to lower his carb intake. He also fasts daily, one meal a day most days, no snacking. It’s a constant battle against his genetics, he only needs to look at food and his tummy gets bigger.

Dr Jamnadas- thank you for uploading this talk. I have shared this with many of my relatives. I was born in Sri Lanka but living in Australia since the age of 11. I just turned 60. Non smoker, non drinker.5 years ago I changed my eating to whole foods Plant Based and no oil, sugar and oil (mostly compliant but occasionally giving in to sugar). Lost 15 kg. Now within BMI for my height. Coronary Calcium score of 3140! Angiogram showed 3 major blockages 95-100%. I was referred to have a triple bypass immediately. I have recovered well but understand the importance of nutrition to keep this all under control. Thank you so much for the work you are doing Doctor to share your knowledge.

Thank you so much for this very insightful video. I wish more doctors would focus so much on prevention and all the aspects of lifestyle. Many probably do, but very briefly. While most patients know about lifestyle problems and can choose to work on that ourselves, doctors could help by offering preventive diagnostic measures as those suggested in this video and not only test for immediate huge issues.

Amazing video. Very good breakdown of the problem and informative. I have been saying more or less same thing to Indian friends. They don't care. Really. They are addicted to carbs, sugar, sweets and oil. Also lot of misinformation that this phenomenon is genetically related and not understanding the epigenetics (lifestyle factors) involved CAD/Diabetes in South Asian community. One point I want to add is, we use way too much oil even if we ignore seed oils. Rice, wheat (refined) and oil are the three biggest damaging dietary factors for Diabetic and CAD problems.

And I passed my non-stress test (chemical stress test) they said it was "negative" ... yet 2 weeks later I had a stent placement for a blocked artery of 95% blockage, a diagnostic heart catherization was done, and so my cardiologist did and angioplasty & stent placement in the main artery in my heart! Wowie .. that was close!!!

Thank you for this great video! It's really nice to see a traditional medical doctor especially cardiologist open to herbs like berberine and also knowledgeable about food and insulin. We had a bad experience with after my husband had his heart attack the cardiologist was a very good interventionalist, but did not want to hear anything about diet natural products and non pharmaceutical ways of treating heart disease.

The doctors will not give you advice about natural products because they are not allowed it's their policy unless you go to a licensed traditional medical doctor.

Groundnut oil are usually produced by pressing with pressure. Groundnut oil has residual peanut taste and smell as commonly used by locals in northern Nigeria, it's completely natural. My understanding is that it is vilified because it is unsaturated

Great info. So true that Indian diet includes has lots of carbs, sugars. Watch Dr Berg's video's who explains in detail in simple terms, on various diseases and natural treatment. Also. Watch flavicity, on food to eat that is really healthy. Just learnt that feel good system helps to loose fats and inches, along with intermittent fasting.

Indians in urban areas may be getting less sun and therefore less vit D as well as eat more processed foods and so gets less vitamin K cause ruaral areas may be more healthy living with more greens etc. and urban areas get more meat etc. due to more money compared to poorer rural areas?! Interstingfor all kinds of people to learn from this it is, so thank you doc!

CAD is like an epidemic amongst us Urban Indians. And the old ones, like my parents for example, are so arrogant to make the slightest changes in their food habits and lifestyle! I understand what is happening to them, but I can't convince nobody!

Dear Dr. Jamnadas My case, I am a 48 year old male, athlete, I do intermittent fasting 18:6 every day of the week (with some exceptions) and my diet is low carb, eating mostly nuts, fish (salmon), avocados, salads, chicken, eggs and dairy (cheese). My BMI is 23.5, my body fat is 13% and my visceral fat is excellent according to impedecia meters. In my last blood test (the previous one was 2 years ago and I was not fasting), my total cholesterol was 290 mg/dL (they did not differentiate between HDL, LDL and VLDL) and triglycerides at 180 mg/dL. I feel better than ever, energetically. I play beach volleyball and I have a lot of energy. In the analysis I observed that the Acetone in urine was 10mg/dL so I was in ketosis since I had been fasting for 20 hours when I did the analysis. Also the Urea was slightly high at 54 mg/dL. I believe that my triglycerides are elevated because my body is in ketogenic mode and uses them as its main source of energy and that is why they are elevated. The liver will be exporting VLDL and my adipocytes will be releasing triglycerides to the liver. I would like to know your opinion about this situation (High Total Cholesterol, TG, and Urea), but the truth is that my condition is better than ever. Thank you very much for you expertise opinion
