Seemed like a good idea. Until I heard 'delivered to your home'. That's less great. It would be better, if you would just find this in the supermarket. To save on all the extra kilometers, which are not good for the environment at all. And how can it be, that you don't have to measure it? Than you'll have too little or too much detergent. Which is also bad for the environment. That said: I LOVE your work!!!

Property values in that neighbourhood are reduced because clueless school board members bought a house to expand the school property line, (with city tax dollars) and then just abandoned it, with no consideration for the quality of life enjoyed by people that live in the neighbourhood or the reduced resale value of their homes... you can be sure if that nasty house was set next to a member of the school board, they would have hired someone to maintain it or have it rented out to someone that would maintain it! Does your superintendents make over 180,000? Does your director of education earn over 300,000? Those kind of salaries plus benefits and perks. School officials, teachers get summers off, Christmas holidays, all statutory holidays, PA days, plus sick leave equal to 1/3 of their school year available. Teachers here are earning 70,000 to 100,000 plus. VPs 120,00 to 140,000. Principals 130,000 to 150,000. No money left for what's needed. Plus the teachers don't want more than 22 students per class. of course I would not want to be a teacher in the US with all the gun and gang violence. Teachers in the US should earn more than those in Canada. This school is lucky to have the kindness of the Blessing Boys.

I would have a contractor come in and repair the windows, doors, and crawl space door, then put a security door on all exits, storm windows and shutters on all windows. If the house belongs to the school one of administrators should take up residence in the house. I would also remove any trees closer than 100 feet to the house to protect in case of a fire, there is plenty of fuel there with the dried trees. I would also add security lighting around the house, this wards off criminals! Otherwise you guys did an outstanding job on the yard as usual!!

I was (and am) confused by the whole situation, especially with it seemingly being school property. There’s only one possible explanation I can think of: It was private property, then the squatters took over and due to this whole situation the property went to the city after they got rid of the squatters, the city didn’t want to deal with the property and said “Hey, there’s a school nearby, let’s just give the property to them to deal with”, which obviously doesn’t work out if you don’t also give them the resources to do so.

I’ll bet the fire department likes what you did, a home in California would not have dry grass that high, city would take care and send you a nice bill. You did that lady a huge favor. The boys are getting so grown up, and are a lot of help, good to see.

The fact that the property is next door to a school is mentioned numerous times. Apparently the neighbors weren't so scared of the squatter house that they would pitch in and get it cleaned up themselves, even though it's their own kids who go to that school.

Thankfully the Blessing Boys were on the job, doing what they do for the community. Another awesome cleanup completed.

I grew up in a small town. The school owned 2 houses adjacent to the school for the coach and principle. When the district consolidated with the nearby town and built a new school in-between, the houses were forgotten. The citizens reminded them when the next spring rolled around, and they fixed/cleaned them up and rented them out. Never be afraid to respectfully call out those who work on your dime, whomever they are. Their response determines your next steps.

Another blessing performed. Thankfully the school appreciated it. It's always sad to see nice properties just sit empty. Hopefully the school is planning something useful for it. The Artic Blast is hitting just about all the states. Here in northeast Missouri we've went through two rounds and expecting a third of snow, ice, high winds , and negative zero temps before the weather warms up. Hopefully your experience is a lot better
