How many years does a person have to pay for past mistakes, particularly IF drugs and alcohol were in the mix. John has done a great job with his sobriety and has become a better person and musician.

My daughter and I recently saw him on his solo tour and were blown away. I have always liked him, though I know he is a tool. My adult daughter kind of went with me because it was a free ticket. Suffice to say, we both came away completely humbled by his talent. She will now say it was one of her favorite concerts of all time…and we see a lot of shows. He performed with zero backup…just him and one of his numerous guitars that he used throughout the night.

I wish I could have been at one of those solo tour dates. His acoustic stuff is extremely melodic and not talked about often enough. And for having followed him for over fifteen years, he shows in his behaviors that he has changed a lot and worked on himself. He's usually very candid and open about himself in interviews

John Mayer and Keith Urban did a whole show together via CMT. JM is hardworking and very gifted. he will be a legend always, and a keen songwriter. his background is blues, soul and rock based on influences from Vaughn, Clapton, Hendrix, etc. as to Allie's comments on "sleazebag", I think women play that game too aka consenting adults -so if framed this way, we can view talent from a different & separate lens. we just need to acknowledge the gift music can bring. JM writes about this a lot (life in general) without being self-referntial. his underrated country-pop albums when he was in Montana are def worth a listen. as to your point Sebs, maybe being a rock star accounts for bad behaviour but I'm not completely sold on that... he isn't Kanye so thank God!!! lol thanks for the post! more power to your channel 🎉

I'm glad many of the commenters have mentioned how unfair it is to judge John Mayer by some of his past transgressions. The man has evolved for the better and is a consummate musician who inspires a ton of young artists. Just ask JP Saxe, Alec Benjamin, Lizzy McAlpine, Joy Oladukan, Yebba, Alexander23, Maggie Rogers... Or even seasoned stars like Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran... Or legends like Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Vaughan. Heck, he even managed to make Deadheads fall in love with him. I understand why he is labelled a womaniser or d-bag (he's neither) but it's just lazy to take the opinion of a toxic fanbase and believe that instead of a little critical thinking. I urge anyone who is open-minded to give JM a listen. Check his live album "Where The Light Is" or his reflective record "Born And Raised" or the masterpiece "Continuum" just to marvel at his range, his musicianship and his brilliant writing. Clearly, I'm a huge fan. His music has saved my life and I'm sure the world will be a nicer place if we just gave a little grace to fellow humans.

Okay, let me start by saying I love you both. 🤗 And now on to my pro-Mayer argument. Prepare yourselves. It will be wordy. Because, well, writer here. Anyway, I am definitely a massive John Mayer fan. Some of his songs might have even saved my life. Sounds dramatic, I know and yet I'm serious. But I can still admit that, yes, at one time he was indeed a super d-bag. I know because I saw / heard it and I know because he has admitted to all those bad things he said and did, apologized for them and for probably the last twelve years he has worked hard to be a better person. Is he perfect? No. Has he made mistakes since then? Yes. But he had the good sense to look at himself one day and say, "I don't want to be the kind of person who says horrible and hurtful things anymore. I was wrong. I screwed up. But I want to be better." And he has been. Which is good, because some people can never even sincerely admit all the terrible things they've done. And if you can't do that, then you can't improve. I'm just saying it's better to judge someone on their present and not their past. None of us wants that. 😳 Anyway, apologies for the long-winded rant. And listen to something from Born and Raised. That might win her over. 😊

The reason John did an instrumental version is because at the time of the funeral, he wasn't able to sing because he had a nodule on his vocal chord. I remember watching this "concert" live and John Mayer stole the show with this cover.

John Mayer is one of our top guitar players today. Keep an eye out for 14 soon to be 15 yr old Taj Farrant. 4 #1 original songs on the iTunes blues charts this past year. He played with Santana, Rob Thomas, Orianthi and Kiss by 10. He's touring the US and wowing audiences. He's playing at some of the big blues festivals including Big Blues Bender in Vegas. He's going to be one of the top guitar players.

It's his dynamics of how he plays you could have his guitar and entire set up and still not sound like him. It's how he attacks with his fingers or pick that gives his sound. He has also mastered vibrato so when you hear his bends he's not just bending one note up its like bending to a sweet spot where tonally it sounds good. He's a guitar master for sure.. he can copy all the blues masters and play his own style. He's a carbon copy of SRV his idol who did some covers of Jimi Hendrix famously.

You should react to that ...they do several Urban songs and Mayer songs. It's a phenomenal set. FYI, Mayer was a sleazeball when he was younger, but like many men, he has matured as he got older, he's admitted he was a douche when he was younger (like a lot of guys) and isn't the womanizer he once was. Grace is warranted for those who realize their mistakes, grow and change.🤔💯🤷

11:40 I just gotta say, people change. Swifties seem to forget that the stuff with John and Taylor happened over a decade ago, and they only listen to the perspective of Taylor... I've been following John since I started playing guitar like 4 years ago and he seems the most pure and kind hearted guy, he's a totally different person and theres absolutely no reason for anyone to hate him right now. Even Swift said she moved on, its just the swifties that are still butthurt for nothing.

btw. Why u think he is a "sleazeball"? Becouse T-swift fans says so? Wow. Maybe T-Swift is a monster, cuz she uses her boyfriends to write songs without considering the consequences that may happen to them? What if she is the bad person? Does this happen to you sometimes? Does being popular erase everything? From what I see in live concerts, John Mayer has matured a lot and speaks very respectfully - not like Swift at her concerts causing the ageism of cool people towards her ex-boyfriends

The reason she thinks he's a slime ball is because she took Taylor's "Dear John" as gospel and didn't get his side of it. The truth (from what I heard) is she's the one who stopped talking to him because he wasn't obsessed with her. Honestly who cares. Nobody cares about the backstory of a painting or a sculpture, so why does everyone get all caught of in the drama of a song. Hopefully the art adds something to your life and that should be the only takeaway that matters.

I don’t put stock in Swifty opinions. John Mayer is the whole package and actually has real talent.😂 I disagree that he’s leaps and bounds better than Keith Urban. Keith is phenomenal. I’d say they are equally great! Glen Campbell is one of the greatest and underrated guitar players in history.

Apparently he knows something about Taylor that the rest of us doesn’t.

@@JaneSmith-lu8ol agreed. Getting pretty tired of someone making an effort to not like her.

Sebs if you react to Dear John and Could’ve, Would’ve, Should’ve. You will feel different about him. Especially since you have daughters.

ngl Taylor’s music is severely mediocre in comparison to Mayer’s💀😅

I refuse to listen to John Mayer. Not after what he did to Taylor Swift. Give her back her girlhood…it was hers first!
