I practice this each day. Trying not to let things that ultimately don't matter get the better of me. Anything from work to games.
@earlgrey21304 жыл бұрын
In cognitive behavioural therapy there is an interesting model where you learn that the only way to control your emotions (and the resulting behaviour) is by being mindful of your thoughts. A lot of the internal chatter that goes on all day is bullshit if you really pay attention. A lot of it is internalized voices of other people, fears, doubts, ideology or things you've come to believe that don't withstand critical analysis. But if you aren't mindful, you just go with it and that stream of bullshit carries you through life, decides how you feel and how you behave. I'd argue that one of the most direct ways to control your emotions is a daily practice of meditation (or some other form of mindfulnes).

Judicious use of your anger is spot on. If you pull it out when you really mean it, it is FAR more effective. This, I find, is also true of the use of the "F-Bomb".....Somehow, it has become the universal adjective. In today's society, it has become akin to saying "like" or "ya know".... If it is saved for when you really need to make a point.....it then carries more power. IMHO

I have trouble showing emotions or having any positive ones.. through hardships, I conditioned myself to place them second; but i'm not surviving anymore. I've been told I can be either a positive or negative leader from a very young age, and my purpose is to be exemplary, an immovable pillar for my brothers to rely on. All of my relationships are founded on my efficiency, and I am happy to make myself appreciated through my actions more than my personality, but would there be a way for me to recover from a past that I built myself from? Something that I can do alone.. trustworthy people to hang with is fine and all, but they're just not around yet

I was in the Young Marines program when I was 13-17, and I remember something called "The Attention Game". We would stand in formation, at attention, while our DI's would attempt to make us break. If you broke, you PT'd until the last guy lost. I was always in the last third who did, but there was one guy who was a total statue that would have us pushing until we almost DIED.
Jocko playing the game of faces! A man knows
IMHO

That reminds me of currency bacause the more exists of it the less it's worth. As you said, same for F-Bombs.
I watch you while I do my workouts and after I appreciate all the advice I hope one day to meet you and express how much of your advice got me through my life and tight times specially not having a mother and a father. Keep it going 🏋🏽

Echo looking JAAAAACKED!!!!
I just listened to podcast 71 again
I'm HANGRY NOW, BECAUSE OF THIS DIALOGUE ON Prime Rib, damnit man!
Emotional ppl are generally weak.
" I just broke you!" laughed so hard
thanks for this!
I really had serious difficulty controlling my emotions earlier today. I felt victimized, hurt, betrayed. Pain. Anger. That said, things went well. No I did not turn physically violent, I mean I am 40 years old. But at the same time feeling victimized is no joke. Tired of this western world man shaming.
Thanks, guys!
Its hard to show emotion sometimes after to many deployments and getting de sensitized to everything , it can make life more difficult

Interesting. This idea of normal face is very similar to how you deal with most people with personality disorder traits. It's called the gray rock method: You appear as uninteresting as a gray rock so then they go away and feel like messing with someone else instead.

Gonna show this to my wife tonight.
My emotions are too strong. I tried to control it even in the military. Although I made some progress I still find myself saying weird shit and I prefer to be silent, but when I start to speak its faster and faster. It's weird.

Hello Mr. Jocko, do you mind putting English subtitles on your videos? I can explain, here in Brazil few people speak English and there are still less fluent people to watch their excellent videos. If you agree, I can put subtitles on your videos, but I really don't know how to edit your videos to accomplish this task. If you put at least English subtitles, you could get a large following. graciously Cesar Mello

Jocko has a way of acting like he's interested in Echo's thoughts but you can tell by his body language (ringing of the hands)- deep, yet "humble" JOCKO breaths as he's moving back and forth in his chair just waiting for Echo to shut up and move on. Dichotomy..

This dude is clueless. You’re actually teaching your kids to be self-conscious and overly aware of every tiny thing they do. They will try to self-correct more which just leads to anxiety and frustration. You don’t teach your kids by correcting, you teach them by being a shining fucking example and getting the fuck out of their way. Clueless, overeager parenting is fucking everywhere. These people think they are so clever too. They can’t bear the idea that the best parent isn’t the one that tries to assimilate them.
