Love it, Derek. I just bought a 1942 (made right after Pearl Harbor, but before the factory shut down) - now my main alto! You did a great job of pointing out all the cool quirks (features). I've adjusted to nearly all of them - but the pearl front F is problematic (B3 to F#3 is not fun). Excited to see more of these videos, your videography and attention to detail are a pleasure to watch!

For a split second I thought this was a Matt Stohrer video and I almost thought the same when I saw your video on the Conn Transitional. I am looking forward to hearing them.

I have a 1939 6M silver plate gold bell that my father passed down to me when I started playing, and it's been my main horn since 1973. I've played plenty of other altos, including Mark VI's, and nothing has the soul that this horn has.

Thanks for posting! I especially appreciate your added graphics to highlight what and where you are referring to on the saxophone. A great compliment to Matt Stohrer's post as it addressing the same topic from your perspective. Ryan Lillywhite is an amazing resource! Looking forward to the play test, compare and contrast with both the earlier transitional and the Mark VI

The ginormous spatula on these horns is so funky. It definitely took some getting used to when I switched from a Yamaha to a 6M

Loving your videos! One thing that would be really interesting to me would be a video that talks about the qualities and history of the MC Gregory/Gale line of mouthpieces. They command quite high prices and in my experience are great pieces. They play unlike any other mouthpiece out there. There’s not a lot of good info online on them, especially not in an entertaining and accessible format like this!

Thanks Derek. I have a transitional and one thing I notice that is different to the 6m is the shape of the G# key. Basically it has been reversed. Interestingly I definitely use the largest portion of the key with my pinky but I wonder how that would be position wise with the 6m. Is the whole table in a slightly different position? Cheers. Greg
