Confidence is the reason we quit, never start, or push too hard

Part of running is believing that you can.
Confidence is the reason we quit. It’s the reason we never start and the reason we sometimes push ourselves too far.
My personal experience was the latter. When I wasn’t running well I pushed harder. The more I struggled the bigger I dug my hole. I ran myself into the ground trying to hit faster than prescribed paces for confidence. Not trusting the process I forced myself into paces that my body couldn’t sustain & I overtrained. The body has limits.
The funny thing is most of the time when we PR we tend to surprise ourselves. The paces we hit seem way faster than we thought possible, and for good reason. Training helps us become strong & fit, the taper lets our body store up all of that hard work, and then race day gives us all the good vibes to go for it.
Running a PR means giving yourself a chance. Whether that be by just showing up no matter how good it is or by trusting our bodies & training to stay within our means. Training doesn’t have to be perfect & trusting that a bad workout is just a bump in the road is the first step to seeing your potential.
You don’t have to run a marathon at your goal pace in practice to know you can do it on race day. You just have to find confidence within yourself to know that you can ❤️
