Concrete Stairs Overkill? | S02 Ep12| Starting 2nd Floor
In S02 Ep12 of building house in Philippines we start the 2nd floor , floor beams and start the steel Decking. Week 13 I will be pushing to complete so we can pour asap! Week 12 was full of progress and full of mistakes. We corrected the spacing in our stirrups on columns as well as spacing of stirrups on tie beams. Building our 2 story home in the Philippines has its disadvantages, like the wind. This last week 12 was nothing but wind with some gusts of 40km an hour!

Papa, I believe that one of the reasons things are working out so well with your workers is that you’re not sitting somewhere barking orders, but you’re there in the trenches with them. I think that give them not only incentive to excel, but is earning you great respect in their eyes. Loving the progress. ❤️

@@allstargaming5270 you may think that, but if you follow through his video and his journey, he wants to continue development. If i were the workers, I would quit and work for him. haha his work ethic, knowledge, and leadership is why his homes are 1000x better. Who knows maybe he IS the boss. Makes sense since he has a lot of say with the home build.

@@allstargaming5270 you're over thinking it buddy! I doubt its that serious. Theres a concept, "you get what you pay for". Obviously when you work a job, you provide the effort and skills. Theres value in Mr. Armstrong's knowledge in construction. Like the locals said, they dont usually rebar stairs, or put in footers. Americans do. You could be on-site or remote, It doesnt matter who you hire, as long as its done how you want it. 100% of a low quality company is not that same as 100% of a high quality company. Setting this aside, they're doing a great job with their home! This home is being built to last.

Great update, things are looking great also.
You are a real craftsman Richard. Love seeing you pass skills to your fine crew. Was really impressed to hear that you raised a son who chose to serve his country. I was a Special Forces soldier (18E and 18C) and worked with Philippine Rangers 1987-1990 when I was stationed in Okinawa. Give your son a salute from me please. Great vlog as always!
Well done Richard! love your motto, "Do it once, do it right". To me you're officially the "Mike Holmes" of Ilocos Sur; no nonsense attitude. Thanks again for supporting the local community by hiring workers and showing them how things are done right the first time. I hope in return the workers are soaking in the knowledge and experience you are providing them. God bless you both, ten folds!
Just watched one of your videos, why you sell your house (new bungalow). I saw the video when you're building it until it was finished. It was beautiful.. I feel sad when you said you're selling it but later understand why you are selling it. I love watching your videos, I like what you're doing in the Philippines and I appreciate foreigners married to Filipinas, who are doing a lot of efforts to help the family in the Philippines. To Richard and Donna, don't be bothered so much with the negative comments. Just keep doing the good things you have planned for your family. Keep showing the different techniques, methods or improvements in building a good and durable/strong house.
Richaard needs to start his own real estate development company. His engineering skill and experience will help elevate the local industry and become the benchmark for future home development.
Pagkatapos nag bahay mo sir , skilled workers narin yung mga manpower mo at dahil sa tulong mo. Na e share yung skills at knowledge sa mga tao mo...more power and god bless po
Your vedios r d high light for me on KZread, sometimes I forget how seriously I'm focused on it. Really admire u Richard, you're doing a great job, I'm sure Donna is with u side by side, she's ur strength by God's grace. N little girl makes things all easy, isn't it.
Sir Richard is so hardworking. Filipino construction workers are learning a lot from you. Since you love building, why not have your own construction company?

Hey Mr. Armstrong. I am welder/ironworker working in Canada for more than 6yrs. I can say your stairs look exactly like how they do it here. I've seen it with my own eyes. For others it would be surprise at first until they know that's how it suppose to be done. Do the best and safest route of doing it, in the end it's your house and your family safety. Keep it up Armstrong family!

Stairs has very light weightto support unlike the beam and columns but on this video bars on stairs are more than that in the column it is like your building a brigde
@TheRichardArmstrong
Жыл бұрын
The stairs have nothing beneath to support. They only rely on the beam at land. The load must be transferred into the footer below. Hence the rebar that carries that load like a bridge carries load
@dadscamba4354

@@TheRichardArmstrong I am seeing a piece of wood on the center to support the stairs a beam carries lot of load like the flooring stairs is carries a moving load not even a one ton of load how many tons is your floor and compare your bar on stairs it is like a 10 tin bridge design
@TheRichardArmstrong

And you're an engineer? So I can 100 percent guarantee that if you did some research you'd see that I'm right. And the wood is only for temp support while concrete cures. The stairs are technically floating. No support on bottom side. But hey, if you want to design a sloppy set of stairs be my guest
Happy every time we see building ur home the amstrong fam..we get an idea building like this....
The weather has been crazy. California got a good snowing this week. So great your progress is. You will be in your home in no time. Thanks for sharing. Hi Ella I like the new intro.Take care guys👍🏻😃

I love your channel and I really respect Papa Richard for being a hard worker alongside of his men. Treat your workers right and they will work hard for you. I think they appreciate learning new skills and new ways of doing things too. They can take their knowledge with them when they move on to other jobs. I love seeing all the progress that you are making on the house.
It’s great that you guys are so involved, so you can make the changes on the fly!
Great progress! Love all the rebar in the stairs. Someday when you sell this house the new owner will love watching the videos and seeing the care you took to make this house strong. Thank your son for his service from the rest of us! Hopefully he can get to the Philippines as planned.
I have respect for a hard working gentleman.
This is so amazing! I love this video series so much! So much to watch, listen, and learn!!!! Major respect for the Armstrong family! This is a whole family production - such great job on so many levels. You showed us how change can be a very positive move with no debt!!!!

Wow, it's amazing to see the progress that you've made in just 12 weeks! Your attention to detail and commitment to using proper engineering techniques is really impressive. I appreciate you taking the time to explain the rebar placement in the stairs, as it helps me understand why it's important to use the right amount. The finished stairs look fantastic, and I can't wait to see the rest of the house come together. Keep up the great work, and stay safe in all that wind!
Wow congrats Miss Donna and Sir. Richard, Guy's how amazing house building now. And can't wait more videos to come. I'm very impressed ang inspired buy more lot. God bless you all.

Been watching your video including the first house and totally impressed on what you are doing. I was born in the Philippines and currently living in California. Continue doing your project and it seems to me changing some of the construction methods and attitudes
Can’t wait for the house transformation! Godbless ur family and ur channel 🙏🏼🤍
I will trust you with building my house, Richard! You are hardworking and doing a great job! 💕
Hands on talaga c kuya sa pag gawa ng new house
Another great week of building 👏🏻👏🏻
We are learning a lot from your channel, most especially the construction techniques and tips you are giving us. keep it up.
I’ve been watching house building in the Philippines for years on many channels. Where you stand out from everyone else is your projects seem well thought out and you have done your homework. You don’t cut corners and your work is to perfection. Your work site is clean which is safer and makes the project go more smoothly without a mess everywhere. You take care of your workers and that reflects back into there work. Seeing many home building projects in the Philippines I’ve had plenty of WTF are they doing moments but not with your projects because you do the work correctly the first time.

Thanks for showing to Filipino laborers how to perfect their skill and be proud of it. It does not matter what you do as long as you do it well.

Salute to you my brother! You're definitely one of the hardest working KZreadr's that I'm watching 👍🏽💪🏽🇵🇭🇺🇲
I've been following your vlog since you built your first house...I really liked the way you showed how a real stairway is built...I mean your the man....just keep on building the right way...I'll be there to follow your vlog and the way you build the house..also excited about how you would use the acc instead of the hollow blocks...

I’ll second that, jealousy and envy are strong emotions!
Really appreciate the updates looks amazing
I'm guilty. I was one of those that said it looked like over kill on the stairs. Although I have also said that I know very little about concrete. I truly appreciate that you are giving me a "crash" course on concrete. Your knowledge impresses me, and I always learn something with each one of your videos. I feel that with all of your decisions you have used very sound judgment, especially with the acquisition of tools and machines. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the rest of the build. Great video!
It's nice to hear from your son that his going to be station here in the Philippines

In this kind of project you really need to have people who have patience and wants to learn. A lot are just after the money.
Awesome Job Richard as always. You are the guy I want building my home if I move to the PI. Going in November to check it out for a month.Keep up the good work.
you inspire me guys to have a better financial goals this 2023, dreaming of having my own land, property. house and do the same kind of freedom that guys have. stay healthy and keep producing this kind of video. :) much love from your kabayan. :)
I LEARNED A LOT FROM YOU SIR VERY GOOD EXPLANATION ...
Excellent work
I have seen that kind of rebar on stairs and even though I am not a construction engineer I know it is the right way to do it, that's why I get amazed when I saw someone do it the wrong way by implanting a rebar on the floor, but now it is confirmed and I know now the right way, thanks for sharing
Sir what you do to your crews was there "BAYANIHAN" collab. The workers had learned alot from your engineering constructive ways how to make the structure of the house stable and for the family members safety. The stairway is so well planned (two thumbs up 😉😊 sir. Looking forward the finish exterioe and the interior of your family second home.
Looking good mate 🎉
Love ur video Richard ❤
That will be the strongest area specially during the earthquake it's a good idea specially the house was built on a farmland if there any liquifaction those rebar will hold well just ignore the nay sayers it's your house and you design it it looks great keep up the good work stay safe God Bless
I just happened to stumbled on your site, and now I have binged watched your whole video up to week 12. I did understand why you sold your first beautiful, magnificent home, until I heard your wife’s concern of the debt you acquired. I’m supporting her, it may sound like what’s $20,000.00! Well, being brought up by my parents, whom never had debt cause everything was paid for by cash, they worked hard and kept debt free and had always tried to instilled in us to not live beyond our means. So, when your beautiful wife freaks out about a loan of $20,000.00, I get it! Also I don’t think she has to worry too much also cause these houses you’ve built are so amazing and beautiful! And like you had said no debt is good debt! Your workers are learning so much from you and it shows how you and your wife appreciate them, by getting them futons to rest on, instead of laying on the concrete, showing them how to put away the tools and organize them for the next day. Things like this will go along way! I love the Armstrong Family KZread, thank you for sharing! I’ll be watching!
perfect!
You guys can hv fresh vegetables, bcoz it's just round d corner, that's natural n organic too. God bless d work of ur hands n shower u his favour, grace n blessings with good health n prosperity in abundance. Bless ur family
I don’t know where the get the energy to be onsite working your butt off and do all these videos. Watching your vlogs is starting to become addictive, very thorough and done the right way…I checked out the location and noticed you guys aren’t to far from Taiwan, maybe it’s all those Chinese fighter jets creating all the wind hahaha jk. Keep doing what you do. Stay safe, God Bless!
Great Build / Construction techniques on your building, I was happy with my steel works, columns / beams / stairs etc, even made them put Beams / Lentils across the top of the doors / windows, very foreign to a typical Pinoy builder, structurally very strong, of course the finishing is always a struggle here, just completed 4 years ago and it is a day to day struggle to maintain the place, hopefully after my second / 3rd revision it may be relatively Maintenance free !! Or at least an acceptable level, maybe I got unlucky ! But seen so many builds here to a much lesser standard of mine ! How some of them survive a tremor is beyond me ! Anyway really liking your content ! Would have no trouble buying a house constructed by you, your stile and attention to detail goes way above the normal standard here, keep up the good work ! Looking forward to seeing more !
If you weren’t building your house right now, I’d love to ask you to do renovations on our ancestral home here in Cebu. I watched how you built that previous bungalow and was totally impressed by your methodology and, eventually, the finished product! You should have your own construction company. I bet you you’ll be swamped 😊!
Great job !! 👍
Things are looking great.. #BuildStrong Hopefully we will be able too travel up and SEE you Live and In person.. Next month.. As always 💯💪🙏 #brothersalign #BLESSED

Fantastic, first time I've seen your channel and really appreciate watching another build in the Philippines after James and Mels beautiful build the past couple of years on another channel. My dream is to build where my soul mate lives of the coast of northern Samar where I'm now visiting often. It's now my second home and really want to build a solid safe place for our family due to the natural occurrence of typhoons, earthquakes and the wet seasons of course. Best wishes from Melbourne tonight
