    Other things people rarely think about or discuss: -- Don't act like you have been deputized because you obtained a CCW permit. I have seen too many people get cocky when they obtain a license. In the news, George Zimmermann was an example, Avoid conflict at all times. If you see someone acting suspicious on your street and they are no immediate threat to you or someone else, do not grab you gun and go out of your way to follow and confront them. Call the police. A CCW is not a license to play patrolman and investigate potential criminal activity. Avoid conflict at all times if possible. --Don't think you are John Rambo. Pretty much anyone without a criminal record can get a permit in most states that issue them. It is not a certification of 'expert' status and it is not Rocket Science to obtain one. It simply means the State has determined that you are not a felon or mentally insane individual who poses a danger to others. You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from five feet out for all they know or care. They just determined that nothing was found in your background that indicates you are a possible candidate to go on a robbing spree or walk into a mall and go postal. -- Don't do things or go places you wouldn't normally go without a CCW permit. Just because you now can carry doesn't mean you can now venture into 'the hood'. Avoid bad places and trouble, even more so with a CCW, as having to use a lethal weapon should be the last thing you want to have to do. The legal and financial consequences can be severe as you clear yourself. Nobody shoots someone without a resulting investigation. While you clear yourself you are likely to miss some work time and perhaps require the assistance of an attorney. Attorneys cost a lot of money. If someone dies, it gets even more complicated and drawn-out. The aftermath of shooting people usually is expensive and time-consuming, especially if you kill them. Most people have no plan for the aftermath of a CCW use-of-force encounter and probably never thought about this aspect of it. Anyone with a CCW should have a plan. .

    Daniel DuPaul Really? How many shots do they require in the 3-5 inch group.

  • @Skierxman

    @Skierxman

    9 жыл бұрын

    Who is they? You are saying the state conducts a test or are you saying this happens in the CCW class? There is no requirement in Texas or any state to shoot a 3-inch group. Many states require no training class at all. Those states that do require a training class- like Texas -only require that you demonstrate you can safely handle, load, and operate a handgun. To complete a course, you demonstrate minimum standards of safety and firing proficiency on the firing range. You are usually required to show you can fire so many rounds in a given amount of time without doing something stupid - like losing control and shooting at the walls instead of a target in front of you. If you actually had to shoot 3-inch groups at ten yards(~ 30 feet), the vast majority of people would never be able to get a CCW permit. I know a lot of people with CCW. Some are very skilled with a gun. But most have minimal experience and have trouble shooting at a target at 10 feet. Also, there is a difference between shooting at a range and real-world scenarios. Most people likely couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 10 feet if they were under real pressure, let alone ten yards. I am not making any statement about anyone in particular. Just my observation. A CCW license really says nothing at all about someone's accuracy or their ability to handle themselves and their gun in the real world. As I said, almost any sane individual without a criminal record can get a CCW.

    Okay, if I ever see some no good punk following a 72 year old lady I won't go out of my way. I'll call the police and thus risk a) them coming just in time to call an ambulance for the lady or b) getting hard time for wasting police time if it turns out I judged the no-good punk wrongly. George Zimmermann risked his own life to prevent a crime of any sort. He shot after he was attacked. Our overly liberal media has shown the photos of the killed punk (while anyone with more than two braincells could easily find Black punk's photos with him giving the middle finger to the world on google) but didn't show photos of Zimmermann's injured head. George Zimmermann is a hero because he gave a fuck.

  • @Skierxman

    @Skierxman

    But as I said, some people get in their mind that obtaining a CCW license is the equivalent of being deputized. It is not. You weren't granted a CCW license to investigate potential or actual crimes, follow people who might come across to you as suspicious etc..A CCW license is simply a legal permit to allow a holder to carry a firearm concealed on their person. That's it.

  • @rogergurman1570

    @rogergurman1570

    9 жыл бұрын

    Skierxman Sure, but does it prohibit you from observing & following suspicious people or intervening when they are committing a crime? If everybody who obtained a CCW license thought he was a deputy (in a good sense) and acted accordingly, the crime rates would have been lowered dramatically, if only because a few extra impudent thugs would get shot. I don't have to be a deputy to have the right to get my gun ready and shout "don't move, stay where you are" to an acute criminal on a crime scene, it should be every citizen's honourable duty to actively oppose any crime committed in front of you or anywhere else.

    The Batman T Shirt he is wearing is from the 1960's Batman TV series. So yes some people, Like me and him, do actually remember things we liked when we were kids and still like them today. If you hate everything from your childhood years and think it is not acceptable to still like them as an adults... then I feel sorry for you. I liked many things from the 1960's when I was a kid.. Batman, Star Trek, Marine Boy, Kimba (did not age well..), Lost in Space, (also did not age as well), Mission Impossible, (aged OK!), Scooby Doo, etc. If you hate your childhood years, you most likely had a really rough time, and I feel horrible for you. All I can say is make sure your Kids have a good time, (and it does not take money to do that!). Sluggo

    Sir I know this is a dated video but believe me for a person who is new concealed carry person this video was most edifying. I really love your videos because you give very insightful and pragmatic info. You may joke a lot and be self deprecating but what shows thru all of that is your expertise and experience in firearms. Please keep up the good work because you are my go-to person in my journey as a two-year fire carry person. I have avidly been following you for two years and so please do not stop. Lately I have been really up on your videos dealing with your transition from 367 magnum shooting to less impactful shooting due to age. I am in the same boat. I want to purchase the Rhino 200AD (I believe) which use to be your everyday carry and I know you recently went to the Rhino 30 AD or the Kotch revolver. I am trying to follow your lead in all of this and so I am watching closely what you are doing

    As a thirty plus year retired law enforcement person I agree with this video. I would also add that I hate the ankle carry. I tried it as a new officer and quickly realized all the arguments stated above were correct. Plus I know of an officer's gun droping out of ankle holster and going off! I've found officers ankle carry guns in the prisoner area when it came free and slipped under the drivers seat and into the rear seat area. I've also spent several hours helping officers try to find their ankle carries after foot persuets.

    I mostly carry my .380 in a pocket holster. When I carry my compact 9mm I do it IWB. Mostly I carry the .380. It's plenty big enough. When I was a cop I saw people killed with 22s yet went on a call where a guy shot himself in the head with a .357 and lived. Tried to commit suicide and didn't hold the gun in the right place. Shot placement is everything. I will carry SOB on rare occasions

I've commented on YT over the past couple of years, trying to offer a cop's perspective on certain self defense subjects and then I get the YT "experts" saying I don't know what I'm talking about and I never was a cop, I'm full of BS, I'm 14 YO, etc.

    Just stop hating on my cargo pants (or since I live in the desert my cargo shorts). Then all your sins will be forgiven. Not my first choice of carry method, but I have a customized retention holster secured in the cargo pocket, and the pocket flaps are velcro. On 110 degree days with only a thin shirt on it is the least obvious way to carry, and with the right holster/flap I can train for quick, safe draws from concealment whether standing, sitting, driving, on my back, etc. It positions the weapon right where a drop-leg holster would normally have it. Luckily for me, given the way most people dress around here my cargo shorts make me look like a responsible adult by comparison.

    very good advice. Your holster can be more important than the caliber you choose. If you can't get the gun into the fight, what's the point of carrying it as when you are dead, you hand over your gun to the perp. Find that balance between concealment and accessibility.

    He's giving us some good advice. Anyone who's been to Zacatecas, Juarez, anywhere South of the border, have to watch their backs at all times. A pistol down the front pants, is what's known, or hoped to be, a Mexican quick draw. Across the border, country after country is being taken over by lawless criminals, and cops alike. People are fleeing for their lives. The downfall has already begun and it will be here soon enough. This guy's giving us folks who are unfamiliar with arms, a heads-up on what to look into. Thanks El Patrone!

    I like your don't videos in part because you bring up issues worthy of considerarion if you must use one of those techniques due to the limitations of traditional waist carry. For example combining a small frame revolver using front pocket carry in a good pocket holster in deep pocket with a medium frame in a vertical front pull shoulder holster under a snap down shirt (like western shirts). The pocket allows staging discretely when necessary and you have two weapons available in case one or the other is more accessible. In any case appreciate the food for thought.

    We ladies don't always do well with in-waistband holsters because of our shapes. I advise against purse carry, because if a Bad Guy snatches your purse, he has your gun! I pocket-carry in a holster or holster-carry on the outside of the belt. I had friends who carry in break-away holsters that attach to their bras, and yanking up a shirt to get to them is not a problem. It can cause the Bad Guy a few seconds of shocked pause, which is an advantage to a woman drawing a gun. Enjoyed the video, even the added flashed comments.

    I will say I've never had a problem carrying "Mex-Style." I carry it gun-butt forward just behind my hip. As far as trigger protection goes there's nothing in my pants that's going to pull the trigger, and the clothing covers the trigger and trigger guard. Carrying this way is easy, comfortable, and suprisingly quick to draw as well as easy to hide with an untucket shirt. I'm not at all concerned that it's going to fall down into my pants or fall out of my waistband. It has simply never been an issue. My only concern now is I'm down to carrying an all steel Makarov (which I absolutley love BTW) and in the Texas summer I sweat a lot and have to make sure it doesn't rust. However, when I carry my GLOCK G23 (.40S&W) that's a non-issue, and I'll be back to carrying one of these when I find another GEN 2 G23 or G19. I see the concern in principle but not in practice, and I'm quite sure there are many other people that carry this way. Now if I was in an open carry state, or one that didn't have punitive laws against accidental expose to the handgun (can't scare the sheeple) I'd be more likely to carry in a holster. That being said I do have holsters for my sub-compact guns (I will not carry these Mex-Style for fear of them slipping into the pants because the gun-butt is a little too short for belt retention), and D.M. Bullard holsters from Azle, Texas are the only kind worth looking at in my honest opinion, but mostly I carry compact guns sans holster.

    I pocket carry in a cargo pants pocket. I'm in a wheelchair, and I feel that it is the best way for me to carry. I have Velcro pockets not the button type. I don't like carrying on my waist band as it hinders my range of motion, and transferring from car to chair becomes very uncomfortable. If you carry at 3oclock in a wheelchair your wheel will bump into your gun and holster, and scratch the crap out of your finish.

    Cargo pocket carry (with a holster) is still a good place if it is wilderness carry. You want the gun secure in case of a fall. Immediate access is generally not an issue. It is simply too difficult to IWB or OWB carry with pack straps in the same area.

    I agree with his points 100%. I do not have to agree with his delivery to agree with the point made. Having broken my back 3 times (twice in the lumbar area where SOB would hurt you) and I can tell you that 23 days in a hospital one time and 24 days another time gives you time to think about many things....SOB carry was one of them. Try CRAWLING to the bath room and back AFTER the 23 days in the hospital and you have more time to think about stupid things like how hard it is to CRAWL BACK to your bed! PLEASE folks do not use the SOB carry. I was never hurt doing that thank goodness but the injuries I have suffered are the same. This is where someone pops up and says "B.S. you broke your back 3 TIMES!?" Yes. I was born with a little old lady's disease called osteoporosis and did not know it until I was 45. In the mean time I was an adrenaline junkie and led a pretty adventuresome life style. Now I am 4" shorter than I was and three of the best spinal surgeons in the country tell me they do not understand how I can still walk. Because I have so little bone density there is very little that they can do for me and the chances of ending up worse has left them advising me against surgery. YOU can avoid this by carrying you pistol properly.

    I LOVE my cargo pants. When I carry I generally use a regular hard case holster on my belt and pull my shirt over it OR I use my spandex type belt band (with a horizontal draw). Sometimes if I and the wifey are going to be doing outdoor things (park, beaching, picnics, etc) I will take my cross shoulder fanny pack which has a special hidden holster area that fits my Taurus G2 weapon very nicely. The fanny pack option IS the most comfortable for me because I can put my wallet, keys, extra mags, handgun, paracord, flashlight, knife, and some other small items typically used for a cookout, camping, hiking, etc and there is literally NO WEIGHT on my hips at all... I have timed it and I can get to the weapon and present it on target JUST as quickly from the fanny pack as I can with a regular belt holster...

    ankle holsters are good for when youre sitting down. you can sit with your leg crossed (by crossed i mean, as a man, putting your left ankle on your right knee or vice versa) and then reach your gun very quickly. i would prefer my ankle gun to be by back up or alternative gun, but when sitting its easier to draw that than it is to draw from your waist.

    Your comment on gym bag carry reminded me of a scary incident in my town. A plain clothes police officer had his duty weapon in a back pack, and put the back pack down to deal with an incident in front of one of the local high schools, and of course someone stole his back pack. Unfortunately the gun (along with his oc spray, baton, handcuffs, etc) have never been recovered, and God forbid someone is hurt or killed with that gun. If the gun is not physically on your body, it's not in your control and anyone can take it.

    I agree with you using shoulder holsters when on the draw bad things can happen if you don't practice drawing exclusively as a drill, which my 1911 I practice drawing from a vertical shoulder holster all the time when I'm at home and one thing I practice when I'm drawing is to not sleep my thumb safety until I have my weapon up, that way I know I'm not going to hurt anyone accept my intended target but when your adrenaline starts pumping and that situation arises you have to practice a lot to be sure you're going to perform exactly what you practice well

    One way to defend yourself during ankle-carry from being shot in an dangerous situation where an assailant sends you to the ground and tries to take your gun out of your ankle is this...hook the other leg's ankle over the other leg to block the defender from the gun, but regrettably, you will have to do something else before the attacker disables that non-gun leg (which one will likely do)..so once you do that "block", use the non-gun leg to do a "push-kick" to fend him off...and once you do, you need to run away as fast as you can before the attacker tries to gain access to your ankle-carry gun again. It will be a major regret if that ankle-carry gun is taken away and used on you.

    CDubs HasIt You can be sued for ANYTHING. Don't confuse arrest with law enforcement releasing you after an investigation and a lawsuit that can happen later. You can even be arrested later upon results of a police investigation. In either case, Rafael's heads-up is valid - be sure you're justified and legal in order to settle these issues sooner than later (when they can get expensive if attorneys are needed to prove you were justified in case it was borderline). I read you, though, but the fine point about someone being litigious and suing you and your ability to prove you're justified still means you're screwed with having to spend money to defend yourself is a sad reality in this Country. We have to defend ourselves against our decision to defend ourselves sometimes. Sad state of affairs.

    In my state and a lot of other states with stand your ground and castle doctrine it keeps people from suing you when you act in self defense of yourself. They CANNOT sue you if you're found to be in the right in defending your life. Accidentally shooting someone is different.

  • @DanMowry

    Yup, I read you. However, a search for "Stand Your Ground Cases" makes this point... most are successful. Some aren't. People still paid money and went to court to defend by using that law. It's just an extension of our boy's point above... consequences. Laws often require police investigations to see if they were broken, an attorney to defend if you need to bring to bear those laws that serve you, and you still might have life-changing experience$. That's all his point was.

    Maybe in Illinois or NY or CA. In my state we have castle doctrine, stand your ground, etc. If you are not charged criminally here, you can't be sued, either. If you shoot a thug, he is liable for all damages and if he lives will still face criminal charges. We have open and concealed carry, and you can carry pretty much anywhere short of some federal building. My state has my back. If yours doesn't, I'd LEAVE.
