Whenever I listen to Gram Hancock lecture or I read his books about our lost history I think of Conan and the Hyborian Age. There is now evidence that humans were in North America 130,000 years ago. Gobeklitepe provides archelological proof that humans were building cities long before main stream academics will admit was possible. Perhaps Robert E. Howard was on to something.

There's at least a good 5,000 years between the Great Cataclysm that ended the Younger Dryas Ice Age and the advent of what we used to think was the oldest known civilization, Sumer. It's probable that ~5 thousand years was when a real Age of Heroes took place, when the survivors of The Flood competed for control over the leftovers of a fallen advanced civilization. *We need more history from that era.* If the legends are true, it would have been a wonderous yet brutal, and magical era. The magic being ancient tech that's too old to work or understand. Edit: Permian to Younger Dryas. Or ought it be Pleistocene?

And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. Fantastic. I like how before the piece begins the conductor punches to give character to the performance: heroic and energic. The opening motif and the subsequent crescendo of the music are very beautiful, with the explosion of the chorus but also the ending, with that sense of uncertainty... I think this music describes very well the feeling that dwells in our heroes who meet theirs fate of life and death and their emotions. There is courage but also fear of the unknown and when this adventure is over then there will be another.

There are other film composers whose work might be more popular due to the success of those movie franchises, but I believe Poledouris' work on Conan The Barbarian is easily among the best film scores ever made. And this performance was amazing. I don't know how anyone could view this video and not have their emotions stirred.

@Heather Murray No one who has played in an orchestra will ever say that lol. No performer is looking at a composer 100 percent of the time, but they will always pay attention to his movements with the side of their eyes. A great orchestra is unified by what the composer perceives as the right amount of dynamics for each section
