@@GokulOnFire Trump tried to destroy our democracy for his own personal gain. He started by refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, then he lied to his supporters claiming that the election was stolen from him as he actually attempted to steal it himself, then he encouraged his supporters to physically disrupt the election certification process so that he could illegitimately retain his power. Then, knowing he was the only one who could call off the mob and stop the violence, he chose to sit on his hands and just wait and see if the insurrection would work out in his favor. Two people died as a result. One, a police officer and another, one of his own supporters. Trump is literally an attempted authoritarian. He attempted to illegitimately retain power and was happy to poison our society with lies and lay waste to our shared epistemology in the process, leading to further division and making communication even harder than it was before his rise to power. All of those things I just listed are facts. They are not opinions. They do not represent my mere personal feeling about Trump. Those are all things that actually happened just as I described them. At this point, there is nothing more deranged than accusing people of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” You are defending the indefensible. You’re carrying water for an attempted authoritarian. Please stop using the term “TDS” in earnest. It is total bullshit. You would have to be deranged not to criticize Trump.

@@motorhead48067 lol he's the only leader who actually implemented a Govt of the people, by the people & for the people. Its so damn funny that all you guys who hated the war machine, wall street, big pharma, wealth inequality driven by banks until Trump, he took them on but you believed the liars in media and instead of backing the one true good guy you rabidly hated him w/o reason. You were frothing with hate. Ofc the elections are rigged, it's been that way for a long time. They pulled off a coup, wreaked havoc and corrupted institutions to oust him as he was a people's leader and not a puppet. Even the media bragged about the shadow campaign. Rules were changed, rigged, all the experience of overthrowing foreign Govts for fun came in handy to overthrow own Govt. He was great to you, your life was finally better. Peace & prosperity around the world, reduced wealth inequality, kept his campaign promises, diversified GOP. He's not only the best administrator in 50 years, he's done the most good to people not just words but action. Only a fool can't see that and only a fool won't acknowledge the system was corrupted to oust him! You don't live in a democracy.

Reading between the lines, what probably actually happened was Michelle Obama's team requested that the episode be solo with Conan. This is a totally reasonable ask in this situation! The book she's promoting is pretty personal and emotional, and so a small, intimate setting absolutely works better. But Conan can't talk about that upfront or some listeners will come in disliking her. Plus he can't do it for every guest. And yet he has to address the fact that Sona & Gourley aren't there. I thought this was such an elegant solution to smoothing over this. Conan takes the damage on himself and even turns it into extra laughs. And it's in service of making the podcast as good as possible. The guest is comfortable and her book gets to fully shine, and so she'll be entertaining and come back in the future. Incredibly professional!

When I was listening to this and didn't have it playing in the foreground, Conan had just asked Eduardo if he liked SF and then a commercial came up with a guy saying "I hate my job". I had to bring it to the front before I realized it was an ad.

3:40 the lovely hand gesture Gourley uses here is why I like watching the videos even after listening to the podcast. 7:07 and Adam throwing Conan under the bus so casually shows clear confidence that Conan can bounce back from this, tyrannical despot that he is.

I love Sona and Matt but I think Conan was justified in leaving them behind on this interview. When guests come to the studio, it's expected that the entire crew will be there, and it's a loss when either Sona or Matt are not present. That being said, Conan has been doing this a long time and he often did interviews on other talk shows without bringing Andy Richter along. Everyone Conan brought was a behind the scenes crew member.

This was most definitely a Sona issue. Conan, understandably, didn't want her there given her propensity to cheapen delicate scenarios with her Sona-Ness that people love so much. But it was also definitely a BTS decision from Conan to leave Matt behind to make sure that Sona didn't feel too awkward. Conan has always gone out of his way to be polite all of his life, especially when it comes to a staff turned dear friend who isn't really on the same wavelength as himself at best of times. Not having Matt there was an actual loss whose sensibilities were always more similar to Conan's just like us fans of improv. It was the best Michelle Obama interview so far and it had a lot to do with Sona not being there disrupting Conan's flow (which isn't cute to me anymore, it was fine the first year and a half of the podcast, loved her in remotes back in the days of the TV show). Wish Matt was there!

@@zindabyne It made total sense for Conan to do this interview solo simply because Sona and Matt are on air to enhance his _comedic_ ideas and spark new ones. That said, it's because Sona is on the same comedic wavelength with Conan that the podcast works as well as it does. If anything, it is Matt who has had to hone his comedic skills to keep up with them, and he is now a terrific improviser who dares to go to outrageous places. The idea that Sona disrupts Conan's flow is ludicrous. She is wildly popular because she reliably gets laughs and helps make an already hilarious person seem even funnier with her contributions. I couldn't be happier that there is a show I can listen to every week where I get to hear the delightfully absurd exchanges between the two of them. You really have your head up your ass on this one, and if you find Sona's presence so objectionable, just don't listen. In fact, Conan could totally afford to lose everyone else who agrees with you as well because that segment of the audience would be minuscule. The vast majority are here for the package that is Conan, Sona, and Matt, and Conan would be the first to tell you that he's doing what's best for the comedy. That's what he's always done. Conan isn't trying to be Charlie Rose. By the way, I love the idea that Sona is cheapening a podcast by the man who gave us the Masturbating Bear. Congratulations on managing to cheapen a KZread comments section (the very bottom of the internet barrel) with your pretentious two-bit opinion.

Conan walked into this knowing he wasnt going to win the argument, so he decided to squeeze as much comedy out of it as possible. I think that sums up the entirety of conans career.
