Compression in the Single Plane Swing

Спорт

#TheSinglePlaneSwing #MoeNorman
See why Sam Snead said Moe Norman had the best hands in golf. Moe mastered the lead-side relationship between club and body, which created consistent impact and a distinct sound of his perfect compression of the golf ball.
In this video, I demonstrate how to hit down on the ball with hands leading, and how the setup and swing is the same with a 7 iron and a driver, even when the ball is on the tee. This covers how ball position and stance width effects where the bottom of the arc of the swing occurs.
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

-- Wonderful video, thank you Todd for this nice work that allows me to understand what ball compression is, so I received my tools, club perfect impact and ground alignment bar that are a super felt training aid to me, I would say when in contact with the ball, it's as if we were getting into butter. I’ve recently committed to learning the single plane swing and one thing I’ve noticed is how straight my miss-hits are. I’d always struggled with extreme duck hooks when I hit the ball off the toe and it would really frustrate me. It’s a breath of fresh air to not worry about where my miss-hits go.

Undoubtedly, Moe's hands worked with the swing to get the timing right such that he accelerated the club head through impact ensuring that the club head exceeded ball rebound and actually compressed (or flattened) the ball against the club face, providing additional elastic recoil and therefore, distance. A maximum smash factor produced. He even said that he made the club "sing" AFTER impact because that is where and when its maximum speed was achieved.

Mind blown. I just came across video and was skeptical. Went into back yard and weirdly when using this method the ball seems to go harder into net, leaving a divot, and easier. At the golf course teaching pro wants o get me to do something so awkward. Can’t wait To get to range / course and implement this technique. Especially when it comes to driver. Im guessing I have a single plane swing and was fighting against it all this time

Oak Tree? I've played there a couple of times. I play now at Winter Creek. I've just become aware of the ulnar deviation factor at impact of some of the greats. Hogan with the driver had it. Malaska talks about the "line of compression". I've been doing a lot of research on it and I'm now a subscriber. Thanks for the video Todd

@@roblaufflin7741 Thanks for the response Rob. I like the feeling of width I get with this setup, and I noticed with a couple of other sites, they still advocate posting the lead leg before impact. I think that leads to inconsistent vertical head/body positions. If you create enough space at address between you and the ball, there seems to be much less up and down movement of the body to accommodate the extra width caused by ulnar deviation of the wrists . If you start closer to the ball with your arms hanging straight down, you have to move your body away or up to get to the right impact distance from the ball. Or have both arms bent at impact. I'm still looking around the different sites though. Thanks again.

Todd just curious. When you watch footage of Moe he often talks about how to hit a ball out of a divot..."Swing easier but smoother" he would say...or something to that effect. Do you know what he meant by this? It's just I would equate the words "easier" and "smoother" in the context of the golf swing as possibly meaning the same thing ! Many Thanks. Tim

Question. I think I know the answer but just making sure. When you are in your initial set up, and you are looking down at your club and not the ball, do you stay focused on where the club was or do you move it to where the ball is?

Definitely not Todd, but from what the instructors told me in my video lessons, it ensures a solid take away from address (with the extension touching the side) to position one (unified arm-torso motion only) and then pointing the butt-end towards the spot 5 feet back and one foot in at position two.

@@roblaufflin7741 Once you get "used to it", there is no problem and with "fit" clubs, the distance from hosel to grip approximates accurately the distance between the toes as well as the distance from the ball. (A quick tip and legal method of verification while on the course.) My (conventional) swing ruined my back and I played with pain and poor results because of it. Since adopting this "easy on the back" method, I now play over 100 times per season with no back pain whatsoever. My handicap is down to a 5 and I hope to shoot my age (68) this season... :)
