    I’m 60 and learned this lesson 10 years ago. My mother said I was born with 3 conditions: ability to sleep anywhere, eczema and diarrhea. Fixed the gut at 50 and am so so grateful. For me it is dairy in very small amounts and gluten. Take good care of yourself especially in the lows. That’s when I am susceptible to falling off and then 6-8 weeks of misery. Appreciate your video.

    Changing my diet was the essential missing piece for my eczema, psoriasis, and acne, especially reducing refined and processed sugar. There were other dietary and non-dietary factors that helped me, but that was the biggest factor. And, yes, to irritating ingredients in supposedly "sensitive" and even "hypoallergenic" products!!! It shocks me how many irritants are in those products!

    @@gracenevitt Soooo hard to trust labels! Add in my dairy allergy and it's even harder -- things in the US can be labeled "dairy free" if they meet certain criteria but they can still have the protein which is the part that causes allergic reactions! It's hard to trust our food and other industries. I'm sure you and I have both spent countless hours researching these things. 😥 I'm traveling and having a flair of psoriasis due to reaching for a few comfort foods when I'm overwhelmed, but I found a moisturizer that seems to be truly ok for me!

    Your video is probably the most informative and helpful video I have watched. I have dealt with eczema almost my whole life. I have tried numerous things, just as you have said in your vidso. I was even medically discharged from the military due to eczema. I have been able to mentally overcome the struggles of day to day life and it has become normal to me. Sometimes I have to dig deep and go on with my day… Thanks to your video, I can try to heal myself without the doctor telling me it will never go away and I will have it for the rest of my life. I hear it all the time “I know what you are going through”… No you don’t… sometimes not scratching is not an option, unless you don’t have hands. I will attempt this and hope I find a solution. Thank you 🙏🏼

    I loved your video! Im so happy for you that you figured it out on your own! Bravo! I’m going through hell since January 2024 with psoriasis on my face. Overall, I’ve had psoriasis since my early 30s. I’ve dealt with it but now it’s gotten too far! My face and neck are constantly itchy, red inflamed , flaky and painful! I got food allergy tested and it was all negative. Allergist said I’m not allergic to any of the food that I tested for. In addition, I started an elimination diet, no sugar, or dairy, gluten free. Still haven’t seen a difference. I’m on day 14 with this elimination diet , hoping it’s just a mater of time. I’m also taking a probiotic in the morning, drinking lots of water with apple cider vinegar. Not sure what else to do. Patch test will be in August.

    I really needed this. The doctors I've seen told me I'm basically up shit creek and theres nothing I can do except use steroids and I don't want to get TSWS. I feel like an untouchable monster and hearing doctors tell you you're fucked is just devastating. It really feels like they couldn't give a shit about your quality of life. Just, "Oh, you're crying. Here, have some tissue. Get out of my office." I asked them about diet and they said it wouldn't help, but it's the only option I have now. I can't live life like this. This video gives me some hope though and its nice to hear from someone who has gone through a similar thing. This and Joanna Cedias old videos about her skin made me feel less alone.

    I'm so sorry you have been treated like this. You were correct to avoid steroids. Finding the root cause is the key in each person's journey and therefore the cure can be unique. I'm sorry this is vague advice but following your own instincts and intuition will be a powerful practice. Many will have their own opinion on what is happening and what the solution is but you must follow what you feel it right. You are not alone. You will find it ❤

    I'm so glad you were able to heal your eczema! Skin issues can be so all encompassing. And oof elimination diets are *hard*. I've been on AIP for 1,5 years already with very few successful re-intros. But it healed my skin for 95%! I had lots of acne in my face and my upper back, and was getting more and more hidradenitis boils. It was awful, so painful and invasive. Not eating a lot of things is hard, but being in so much pain is harder. Also having struggled with an ED all my life, it was hard. I had a dietician and psychologist on my side the whole first year, and I don't think I could have done it without them. Thank you for sharing what worked for you❤

    I have eczema and have had it since elementary school. Im allergic to citrus fruits, sodas,tea, and coffee. I’ve given up processed foods. Heal the gut and change the diet, eczema will be non existent. I use L-Glutamine powder, drink warm water with freshly squeezed ginger in the morning, eat mostly salads with cucumbers and celery, and increased water intake. Eczema was mostly around my eyes, mouth, and forehead. My face burned when I used a gentle scrub. My skin looks the best it’s looked in years. Journey hasn’t been easy but worth it.

    I don't have eczema but I really relate to the feelings about having to compromise morals for health. I'm in eating disorder recovery and even though I was vegan for ethical reasons and not disordered reasons I wasn't able to recover and stay vegan. I also did so much damage to my digestive system that I developed gluten intolerance on top of having 15 allergies, so being vegan was making my options so limited that it kept triggering relapses. I'm so sad about it and still trying to find ways to make my diet more aligned with my values but at the end of the day I can't be of any goos to anyone if I'm super sick.

A medical doctor I listened to described how he helped people with a condition similar to mine with the diet. The class of medication I'm on is also used for seizures and some people with seizures stop having them when on a ketogenic diet. He's had great success with the diet. It hurts nothing to clean up my diet, I pretty much have nothing to lose. Will it suck getting offy current diet, probably, but it will be worth it if it helps.

    It is so refreshing to me to hear all that you say because I have had the same experiences in trying to heal my eczema. You are so right about two things: 1. what works for one person may not work for you and 2. you can spend hundreds of dollars on all sorts of supplements and ointments that do nothing at all for you personally. I never had eczema until I was in my mid 70's and got rid of it then by going on a carnivore diet and doing tapping (a healing modality). No more for about 4 or 5 years . Then I went through a year of great mental stress and the eczema came back with a vengeance. It was just on one foot and leg, but then it went to my eyes and spread all over my face. I also experienced swelling in my ankle, then the leg and the foot and my face became so swollen all over that I couldn't fully open my eyes and mouth. I looked like a monster with slits for eyes! Nothing was working and I finally went to a good dermatologist. I did NOT want to go on steroids, but that is what was prescribed and at that point I was really desperate. The steroid creams DID work and I was happy after only a week and a half to have my face back smooth and clear! The doctor was amazed at the results. Just before the two week point of using the steroids, I stopped using them and used only a body cream that they suggested. But within two days, it started up on my face gain. So now I am back to doing whatever I can holistically. I appreciate all the knowledge that you have amassed at such a young age and am glad that I didn't go through all this when I was a pretty teenager! Bless you and thanks for sharing your experience. It's a horrible thing to go through!

It also worsened because I've been working nights for almost a decade and stress is definitely included with the job. Time came and my Eczema spread from head to toe so my doctor advised me not to work for 2 weeks (became 3 weeks for some reason). That time really allowed me to heal, my skin was almost restored completely because I was able to rest, and watch my diet. Sadly, it's coming back after 6 years because I am still working at night. I don’t have eczema but I was having really bad allergies, oral allergies, contact dermatitis, and seasonal allergies and the best thing that I did was getting allergy tested. Now I know my allergens and I can avoid them. I am still in several allergy medications but can manage my symptoms a LOT better. Getting an air purifier for the bedroom really has helped as well. I was waking up congested and with really severely swollen eyes and I was having sinus issues. It all went away after getting the purifier in December. You had some really great tips and I especially appreciated how you recommended having a good support system in place and that everyone is different.

    Wow! What a journey you’ve been on! I’ve done elimination diets and candida diet before. Definitely miserable!! Vegan here since 2011 and best thing for me but I was advised by vegan physician to eat sardines occasionally for essential oils. My body doesn’t absorb some things properly, like when I was a carnivore I was anemic and needed iron transfusions. Becoming WFPB stopped the anemia within a couple of months. But what I came here to say was that there are a lot of recipes for tofu made with things like garbanzo beans! No many options to get that vibe without the soy. Worth looking into. I haven’t personally tried them because I can eat soy but as you say, we’re all different. Right now I’m tracking my food and symptoms because of Burning Mouth Syndrome for past seven months. I’d never even heard of it before and thankfully mine isn’t as bad as many others. I can feel it Al of the time but others say it keeps them awake and they’re in pain and stressed over it all of the time. Well I’m pretty zen as a rule and I think that’s one reason mine isn’t as bad as others I see on Facebook groups. No known reason for it and it doesn’t lead to anything worse. I’ve heard that it can disappear as quickly as it came. Mine has. I physical symptoms at all. Just lips and tongue and inner mouth feel like they are on fire, occasionally they feel swollen. None of my old favorite recipes have the same taste. I can taste, it’s all just different. I was so excited today to find a toothpaste that doesn’t feel like it’s burning my mouth. Cold foods are best and smooth foods. But hey, if I’m going to have something weird, this is definitely the thing to have! Sorry. Didn’t mean to write a book! Congratulations on your new found food freedom! Continued good health to you!! 🎉

    Did the glucosides cause the red bumps on your body? I just switched laundry detergents to a EWG verified one that was supposed to be way cleaner than the one I was using and it has multiple glucosides in it and my neck, chest, and back broke out in these huge red bumps.

    yes! it's called contact dermatitis and it's usually caused by a physical skin allergy and it is red bumps everywhere. it takes a while (sometimes weeks) for the rash to die down so be patient even if you've changed soaps.

    I just broke out into a eczema flare up… first time ever. All over both hands and I work in healthcare so I’m constantly washing my hands with harsh Hospital soap. I’ve been working in healthcare for a while now and this is my first time experiencing eczema. I’ve been feeling super insecure, all my co workers notice it and it’s stressful how noticeable it is. I went urgent care and they gave me antibiotics thinking it was a bacterial infection and today I finally saw a dermatologist and he told be it’a severe dermatitis. He told me a lot of healthcare workers experience dermatitis from constant hand washing. He prescribed 0.05% steroid cream to use for a week and then once the flare up disappears to use a special non steroid hand cream everytime I wash my hands . I’m scared of it coming back worse

  • @gracenevitt

    @gracenevitt

    Ай бұрын

    it's very common for dermatitis to crop up if you're using the same soap/substance a lot, and my hands were not happy during covid when I was washing them constantly. my best suggestion is to not stress about it! sometimes it pops up, and you just have to soldier through. if you can use natural soaps more often then that would be great but I understand that in a hospital setting it might not always be possible. stress can make eczema worse, so just try to relax if it happens and know that it will go away!

    Doctors should be held accountable when they tell patients "Nothing you do will cure this. You must take this medicine " (with a high price tag and terrible potential side effects). I've never had one doctor to discuss with me about food being healing for the body nor have I heard of anyone that has either. Doctors only get a few hours of nutritional education in medical school and it seems that the overwhelming majority do not think outside the box. If they do, they are afraid to speak up. Medical treatment and treatment in general should always be tailored to the patient and never a blanket one-size-fits-all approach. Doctors see patients about every 15 minutes on average, adhere to the government requirements on any treatments and make money along with the pharmaceutical companies every time they push a pill. The gut microbiome holds the key to so much and it's never discussed by doctors. The medical community is shameful at best. Bravo to Grace for not listening to the magic pill story and figuring out what works for her body. Good for you!

I think that unfortunately the reason I suffered for so long was because I was unable to give up veganism :(

  • @Zoe999

    @Zoe999

    2 ай бұрын

    @gracenevitt I understand, it's just unfortunate because I know that there's so many other plant based sources of protein besides legumes and beans. Even mushrooms have protein , everything has protein. As long as you're eating, you're getting protein. It's just knowing which things have which amounts of protein in it that helps you know exactly how much you're getting. I'm the exact opposite, animal products make me sick and the thought of eating them makes me sick. Plants have always been my go to for medicine. I think what's important is that what you stated in the video Is that you weren't on the healthiest of plant based diets (as was I until now) and you weren't feeling the best, but a whole food plant-based diet takes some time to master recipes, making your own sauces, your own flavorings, to make your food taste really good besides just eating a plain salad with nothing on it. I totally get that, I would feel burnt out too eat plain food all the time. Maybe 1 day you'll come around to trying a whole food plant-based diet instead of a standard American vegan diet style where you can eat anything but if not, I understand. Again I'm glad you're healthy and happy and wish you the best in life. 🙏🏼💯🫶🏽 Thanks for sharing your story.
