You’re really motivating me to keep going! I haven’t been perfect with my no buy year, but I’ve honestly done well! I wanted mine to really focus on clothes and I’ve bought underwear (legitimately needed so it’s fine) and I broke down and bought two scrunchies. Ya can’t win ‘em all, but I’m proud I’ve saved so much on unnecessary goodwill and thrifting runs where I come home with pieces I don’t truly love. I also totally understand the shorts problem. I’m postpartum and nothing fits. I have one pair of shorts and one pair of overalls and that’s it 😂

A thing I've learned is that there is no perfect wardrobe for me. Before this year I had "built my wardrobe" a few times thinking investing in the right pieces was worth it and then I'd be set. But a few months later I always bought different stuff. Before this no buy challenge I figured out my colour season and bought some game changing items. I really thought I had what I needed to last me all year. But for all the same reasons as you, I needed some different stuff. I got a little bit of money for my birthday and bought a whole bunch of stuff for cheap on vinted. I now see clothing as more of a utility item and focus less on getting some great piece but and more on entering a sustainable and affordable cycle of allowing items in and out and just getting on with whatever I obtain. Also, I wear out my shoes fast and have tried this system of good shoes and bad shoes (and I do have a sort of system like this, where I have a clean and a dirty pair but they are actually the same shoe and I rotate the clean down to dirty when I bring in a new pair) but I will say I think it is worth having shoes you want to wear and wearing them. Good shoes make a big difference to life (they hold up your body and keep you moving all day) and imo are worth prioritising when financially realistic.

I’m curious to hear what conclusions you reach in your reflection/re-calibration video. I think the balance is definitely difficult and likely different for everyone. While good habits and positive routines (like not spending on things you don’t need) are important and can genuinely make you happier, I think there’s a bit of a burnout point where you start to feel like a robot or a train circling the same track. I think recognizing when you need those fun, spend-ier detours is crucial for keeping life interesting and viscerally reminding you why you’re on the track in the first place. As another commenter mentioned I think summer is often a just a spendier season as well. I know I certainly come back to life once the sun comes back lol. And on that note the video clip from the mountain climb was super cute, glad they made it all the way to the top!

I also get the urge to buy more clothes, because it feels like I don't have enough. But then I usually singn off of social media and do something else, like going for a walk or read or clean or something and that usually makes it go away. And I realize I actually do have enough. The urge to buy is actually something else. I use it to numb my anxiety or get that dopamin kick or just cus' I'm board. But when I activitie myself or just acknowledge my anxiety the feeling disappeares. Maybe you have already tried that, but just a tip if you don't want to spend/waste your money. 😊 Love the honesty and that you share your struggles. Non of us is perfect! Keep going! ❤️

Girl you're doing amazing ! This is the first time you're putting yourself in a situation like this. Of course you can be frugal and careful but the no buy challenge is very much different than that. It's ok to make mistakes and I wouldn't even say you made any. It's gonna be hard at times and life will throw you some curveballs. It's how you deal with them that matters and even if you have to buy something (i.e. The shorts and the bra bc you absolutely need usable clothing that fits you and serves its purpose) it's ok too. It's not all black and white and you can just pick up where you left if you "fail". It's no big deal. I'm trying to buy as little as possible and I've done pretty well so far. Only really bought snacks that on my yellow light list with moderation. But this weekend I left for my friend's gradutaion and bc of a surgery I've had done a month ago and having to eat a liquid diet bc of that I've unintentionally lost a bit of weight. That alone isn't necessarily bad but now most my clothes are too big and I'm really self-conscious about my lobsided chest (sorry tmi). I had already left home so the only option besides driving back home (which would've waisted both time and petrol) was to go to a store and buy a bra/tanktop. I was already going to the store bc of some food I needed to buy for the journey so I thought it's fine. I found a 4€ tank top that worked underneath my dress and with its neckline so I bought it.... only to discover I didn't need it bc the dress was fine after all. I'm sharing this just to show you that it's ok if you mess up. Sure I'm still using the top and it's not waisted at all but it was something I could've lived without. But in that moment it was important to me to feel comfortable and that's ok. We make some mistakes and then we pick up from where we left off. You're doing great and just remember we're here with you every step of the way. I love your videos bc you feel like a friend I'm catching up with or cleaning with etc. You're safe, calm, a little all over the place but just the right amount. I feel that you care and that makes me love your content 🩷

I live in Aotearoa and did it with my parents in high school (thank you parents), and the only time we could book was over Christmas. There's a lot of other tracks in Fiordland which are worth checking out even if they don't have the same amount of support around them (I know the Milford has options to not have to carry a pack etc.), but it looks like you got lucky booking the track at all!

I really appreciate how vulnerable you are while doing this series, because it shows us that it’s really fine to mess up sometimes, it is going to happen, we’re not perfect. My point being, when u have a community to share your experiences, you end up feeling inclined to do better by you, because they support you and give all kinds of tips and words of encouragement ❤ It’s actually better than being recluse, blaming yourself for your wrongs and denying some stuff. My may was kind of ups and downs, as most months are haha I had to buy some presents for my mom (mother’s day and her birthday), replaced some empty bottles. I feel like I’ve bought more than I should’ve, but at the end of the day, I saved more money than I ended up thinking I would’ve. That’s a huge win!! I feel you so much about your bra situation, I’ve been postponing purchasing underwear myself for way too long. Let’s get it over with, it’s a necessity!! Something I feel really bad about is my ‘to shop’ list, it only gets bigger and bigger. No way I can deal with all of that in a single month lol Omg just rambled a lot here!! Sorry about that. Girl, the life span of a bra is one year. That is a necessity. I think the shorts are too but I may not be the person to advise on that. If your rules don’t allow for the replacement of worn out clothing then the rules are not serving you. That’s unreasonable. I have been worried about how much you have been decluttering. If it ends up costing you more money in the end then you are decluttering just to declutter, not because it makes your life better or easier. If you have not brought anything into the house then why do you feel the need to constantly declutter? Don’t ever think you have to do it just for content. You are learning to find your personal personal minimalism structure. Everyone is different and has different comfort levels. Minimalism should serve you and make your life better, you should not be a slave to it. Find a level of satisfaction and stop running after the need to have less and less. It is just the other side of the coin from wanting more and more. Indicative of always being dissatisfied. You have been doing amazing so far this year! Allow yourself a measure of satisfaction about that. You and Ray are a super couple, going after your dream together. Family is important. Your days with them are numbered so no guilt, ok?? I have enjoyed this series so much.

thank you so much!! and you're so right that I made my replacements rule in order to allow for when clothing items got worn out etc. in terms of the decluttering, I think I did too much with the clothes in the last year in search of some "parameter" that I just didn't need to meet. other than that, the things I'm getting rid of now are still just things I don't need or use!
