CUT AND PASTE REQUIRED.

I hope you enjoy this video. During 10 days off work in April i set myself a task of building 10 Japanese Aircraft in 10 days, LOL it is now mid June so obviously i failed miserably, but they are now complete and hear for you to look at. I will be releasing the fruits of my efforts as completed build videos over the next 5 days, 2 per day, some came out OK some didn't LOL, but i had fun during the series. incidentally there is a link to my playlist for Land of the Rising Sun Week above this blurb where you can view the "Whats in the Box" and "Build Updates" for these kits as they were built.
I have a model collection/stash of 300-400 1/72 and 1/35 kits which i have been building badly for the amusement or to the annoyance of my fellow KZreadrs, As my competence levels increase i am looking to take on different and more complex models. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Hopefully by completing these 33 Spitfire models i will learn a few tricks of the trade. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic KZread skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my ride!

Andy , seems like all good things come to an end, super series and builds and this series wins the prize for " thirst quinchers " and munchies. Between this old tablet and my main computer I had to redo my last response again, so hope number 2 went through. Anxious to see what's up next. That P38 should be a fun build with that tail boom. I've actually found a couple of Revell kits and they are quiet nice. Cheers, Bob

Hi Andy. So the sun finally sets on the Rising Sun builds then. You did an excellent job and produced some very nice models. There were some Turkeys along the way but hey thats modelling. This one turned out really good , I particularly like that green. It really works. So well done and now lets see what you can do with the 'Fork Tailed Devil' as the Japanese used to call the P38. Good luck buddy.

Thanks Brian, the sun sets in the East and rises in the West. Will be trying a scaled down version of this format in a couple of weeks.

Another Tidy result Andy and that travel dolly looks very good. For canopies, try cutting thin ( 1-2mm ) strips of Tamiya tape and then cut the pieces of the strips into sizes that will fit between the frames of the glazing. They don't need to be exact , and smaller is better as you can always overlap the pieces of tape to meet the edge of the canopy frame. Once you have masked the glazed panels, give it a coat of clear to prevent bleeding and then you should get nice sharp frames on your Canopy when you apply the colour coat and remove the mask. For angles sharper than right angles cut cut small pieces into sharp triangles. Again they don't need to be exact as you can overlap with another sharp triangle to match the angle of the frame. Then fill in any gaps with other small pieces. Curves are are a bit trickier . If the curve is shallow Tamiya tape will conform to the curve with a bit of encouragement. If the curve is tight, small circles of tape are handy. These can be punched out of a piece of tape if you have a set of small modellers hollow punches or, you can buy sheets of small adhesive circles in various sizes on line or from your Hobby Shop ( sheets of small adhesive squares and triangles are also available and also very handy ). This might seem a bit tedious but it's really not that hard to do and the result is usually very satisfying. Alternatively you can try purchasing an aftermarket mask set, if they are available, for the particular kit you are building at the time. Hope this makes sense and is of use as you continue to build your skills. 🍻

Thanks Dean thats a pretty comprehensive and potentially easy to follow instruction. i may see if i can apply that to the Lightning that i am building today. one question when you say "give it a coat of clear" i assume you mean clear varnish? i think one of my issues is masking tape, mine is no brand cheap and cheerful off Amazon, i keep meaning to get hold of Tamiya but keeps slipping my mind.

@@TheNoviceModeller Hi Mate, yes Clear Varnish, My preference is Tamiya Clear in a rattle can TS 13 I think ? I can't recommend Tamiya tape highly enough. It is a very good product and isn't prone to bleeding, but giving it a coat of clear gives an extra element of protection against bleeding. If it's not a clear part you are masking you can spray the mask with the base colour to seal the tape before applying the topcoat colour. This method works with both Brush and spray painting. Clear or Base, coat sealing the mask should give you nice sharp paint demarcations P.S. check your spam folder, Ive sent you another email earlier regarding your Ki61 build, but I also mention a couple of tips regarding Natural Metal Finishes that might be handy for your P38 build. At the moment my Go To paint for NMF's is Tamiya TS87 "Metallic Silver" If you use it as per the instructions on the lid it will give you a very shiny finish, but if you disregard the instructions and put a clear over the paint it gives a very close approximation of natural aluminium. Sorry for being longwinded again, but I hope it helps 🍻

Cheers Dean, LOL & ooops, i need to check that email more regularly, only set it up for the channel, must be a month since i looked at it, will check it out this afternoon. I think what i need to do is get some of this Tamiya masking tape, so as to get an accurate appreciation of your method, i will hold fire until my next build before trying it, will get on to ebay/amazon and get a few rolls today. Must be better than my current bodge it jobs.
