I hope you enjoy this video. During 10 days off work in April i set myself a task of building 10 Japanese Aircraft in 10 days, LOL it is now mid June so obviously i failed miserably, but they are now complete and hear for you to look at. I will be releasing the fruits of my efforts as completed build videos over the next 5 days, 2 per day, some came out OK some didn't LOL, but i had fun during the series. incidentally there is a link to my playlist for Land of the Rising Sun Week above this blurb where you can view the "Whats in the Box" and "Build Updates" for these kits as they were built.
I have a model collection/stash of 300-400 1/72 and 1/35 kits which i have been building badly for the amusement or to the annoyance of my fellow KZreadrs, As my competence levels increase i am looking to take on different and more complex models. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Hopefully by completing these 33 Spitfire models i will learn a few tricks of the trade. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic KZread skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my ride!

That's a decent job Andy, so no need to flagellate yourself, unless you enjoy it 🙂 The secret with brush painting is to thin down the paint and apply it in layers, to minimise the brush marks, but what you've done looks fine to me. Re the red Japanese 'roundels' (Hinomaru), these are easy enough to mask off and paint with a circle cutter, or even a circle template and sharp needle. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying your beverages.

Thanks Jeremy, but this one is a prime contender for my planned November 5th firework party, where i will be analysing the aerodynamics and flight characteristics of a few kits......... if you know what i mean.

Cheers Dean this one was a bit of a mare from start to finish, it was lucky to make it this far PMSL.

I'd say it looks great, hand brushing is difficult at best and that silver came out well as did the stripe.

I seem to remember being pretty chuffed with the stripe until peeling the masking off, there was quite a bit of seepage that was touched up, more lessons learned LOL.

Good job despite the issues. The parent company of Asahi owns the very old 'iconic Tasmanian' brewery nearest me (Boag's). The Japanese Army tail markings are usually stylised symbols depicting the numeral of the Koku Sentail/regiment/wing. Yes, I'm great at dinner parties...

Thanks llordlloyd, i must admit i was wondering what the squiggles were all about. Bring a case of Boags and your more than welcome at a dinner party round mine anytime.

Hi Andy. You finally finished it then ? It actually looks pretty good despite the problems with the decals. A little tip for ancient decals is to smear a thin film of PVA over the decal and then not to soak it to much. It will then hold the decal together whilst you apply it. It clearly can survive a crash landing, ooops ! Well done on the Rising Sun builds. Well done .

Thanks Brian, i will be more careful on the vintage decals in future but some of these Tamiya's which were 50 years old, well one of them you could see the cracks on the sheet before doing anything to it.

Nice one Andy 👍 Every model is different and there are different challenges too. It's how you deal with them that matters. You know what went wrong but nobody else would if you hadn't said. I like this one alot, maybe because it's an old kit but also because you don't see many and definitely not many get built! I reckon you've found a market right there! 🤔🤣 And it's another model finished, which puts me to shame! 🥺🙈 Cracking work that man, congratulations on a wicked project. Laters....

Thanks Bobby though this one nearly ended up in the bin on multiple occasions. I am planning a firework party for November 5th/Guy Fawkes Night. This one is very much possibly going to be aerodynamically tested.
