Comparison: Adidas SOLAR Boost vs. Solar GLIDE

Adidas dropped two new boost running shoes this spring (2018), the Solar Boost and the Solar Glide. Now i cant speak to the naming convention but watch to see exactly how these two shoes stack up and why you might buy one over the other.

Thank you so much for these informative videos Ms. Tiffany! In-depth, technical, and not those typical "it feels good" review videos. Very helpful esp. for a running newbie like me who has no clue where to begin with choosing a good running shoe.

In earlier generations, when there was an Energy Boost and a Supernova / Glide, these two shoes were a lot more different than now. Both were primarily 'trainers', but one (the Energy) was a faster shoe, with less cushioning, less weight, less reinforcements, a more curved surface that allowed a faster transition, a lighter outsole and upper, and other characteristics that made it a good daily trainer and a good marathon shoe for people with average weight and average speed. If, instead, your weight was high, your speed was slow or you were running an ultra-marathon, the supernova / Glide was better. With time (2016-2017), the differences between the two models shortened; but now there's almost no difference, which is kind of perplexing, because the difference made perfect sense. Now it's more of an aesthetic choice than anything else. Still, most people say that these “Solar” models are better than the last years’ Energy and Supernova. I can't say, because I haven't tried them so far.

Great review I ended up getting the Solar Glid ST. It has a similar stability control as the Solar. Great shoe.

I have both of these and the Boost in the Glide feels much firmer. I went back and looked at the cushion rating on roadrunner.com and they had the Glide at 4/5 and the Solar Boost at 5/5 on the cushion scale. I also feel like the Glide has more room in the toe box. Do the Solar Boosts stretch any? Im hoping they do. Great Channel and great content!

Thanks Tiffany. Great review and super helpful. As you know, the Adidas website and their chat support is less than helpful when you're trying to figure out the differences. I learned that the Solar Glide is what replaced the Super Novas. I really want to break up with Adidas but the shoes just work so well for me. Cheers!

Was wondering what the difference between these is - not much it seems. So similar in fact not quite sure why have both. I see the Boost one gets a lot more attention that the Glide so good you are looking at both. Kind of assume the Glide is meant to indicate a later version of the Supernova Glide 8 which was a nice everyday running shoe but which apparently was not so well thought of in the straight Supernova that the Solar Glide seems to have replaced.

hello tiffany, i saw that solar glide toe box area looks like shorter than solar boost. is that make solar boost more flexible or more room for toe box? thanks.

Hey I have a question. Which shoe has more stability in the toe and front foot area?I have ultra boosts and since the whole shoe is made out of that mesh material with the exception to the cage, I feel sometimes that my foot is protruding from the sides and I could almost rip through it. I don’t do a lot of running, I do more high intensity training where my foot is really flexing front and back and side to side. Do you think these shoes would fit the bill for that sort of training

If you in cool weather or don't mind a warm/ hot shoes just go for Solar boost. Solar Glide have much less heat up problem. Mesh in Solar Boost is unbreathable at all. I end up punch some hole for ventilation ( also change to 1-2 mm. insole for more rooms). Still great sneaker though.

I have both pairs in front of me. Personally I do feel an obvious difference. Boost seems clunkier, heavier and not as dynamic.
