The problem isn't the zero drop nature of converse, it's the the lack of splay in the toe box of the shoe. Feet fan out from the heel to the toes, and converse (like most shoes) are shaped in such a way that they constrict the transverse arch from functioning the way it's meant to. The sole is also quite thick, making the connection to the ground feel alien to the muscles and nerves on the bottom of your feet. As an analogy, just imagine wearing thick non-stretch mittens most of the time, your entire life, and they're shaped not like how a hand splays and grasps things. Your hands would atrophy because many muscles are being constricted.

If that is not what you want use shoes like the Nike Basketball (original basketball shoe still made with SB line), the Adidas Superstar high top/ II as the low top or Converse All Star high getting the leather/synthetic leather versions if you find chaffing with the canvas upper on standard Converse.

The toe-spring is literally designed for running/jogging as it helps give you the push-off force your toes need to speed up. If you are lifting weights, of course you would need a more stable, flat shoe. And don't give people the false narrative like "newer shoes" from Nike or Adidas are bad for you, their just different categories of footwear. Nike/Adidas still offer new flatshoes may it be for weight lifting, skate boarding and other sports/activities that requires a flat shoe.

When looking for a shoe, you need: * Wide toe box * Zero drop * Flexible sole * Usually you don't want any arch support but some people need it * The amount of cushioning depends on personal preference Also, ideally, it should be machine-washable and fast-draining and not too expensive. I preferred to be barefoot most the time as a kid while playing or going outside on our countryside property and only wore Van's to school because my aunt liked to get them for me for some reason... either way I've only worn athletic shoes here and there for the last 5 years (I mostly wore indoor soccer/fútbol shoes during this time luckily enough) and have barely learned about Barefoot Shoes. I have bought toe spreaders to correct my pinky toe being slightly smashed and began walking with 3mm soles. Turns out. My feet are still strong af because I haven't had any problems transitioning beyond the first couple days being tired of walking with no cushion. I guess I've been fairly lucky with my shoe choices as a kid, teen, and adolescent.

Years of using typical commercial shoes has habituated many to stiff positions. The natural barefoot is the best for our bodies because it allows natural movement of the whole foot, toes included. Learning to walk barefoot, similar to how many indigenous people go about, now require the modern person to habituate to new patterns. But in fact they are not new patterns since you knew how to gracefully move yourself as a child before life bonked you in ways. Alexander-technique is one safe and effetive way of practicing that teaches how to use your body as you did as a child, gracefully and efficiently.

This comments section knows nothing about batefoot/minimalist shoes. Converse might be flatter than Skechers, but it's not exactly what he means. Also, if flat shoes hurt to run in, you're running wrong. A big problem though is many of us having been wearing overly cushioned shoes bad for our feet for so long that our feet are too weak to do their job, so the muscles and tendons in your feet will feel like they're on fire if you ran in minimalist shoes or actually just barefoot. But once you get some decent foot strength, running will feel way better on your body because your muscles and joints are absorbing the impact properly. Running shouldn't destroy your knees. If it does, that means your knees are taking an impact your calves, foot arch, and Achilles heel are supposed to.

Buy what? He is right. Since teenager I used flat sneakers such as Converse, Vans, Macbeth, DC, Emerica, Globe Magnum, Adidas skateboarding, etc for my skateboarding activity and other casual things. For me, toes spring shoes are UGLY. And this video make me glad that I never wear any toes spring shoes.

If you’re doing weight lifting with free weights and CrossFit, you WANT flat and stable shoes like in the bottom. With running shoes, you’ll feel a tendency to fall forwards which can be particularly dangerous with heavy weights. The downside is that they’re so stiff they’re very inefficient for running- running on the treadmill will not feel very good.

It's genetic, and wasn't a problem before, but a couple of years ago I twisted my ankle just slightly, and since then it hurts consistently. I get up in the morning and it hurts. The funny thing is, that a couple of months ago, when I was riding a scooter (the sort you have to push with your own leg) for a couple of hours, and over very rough terrain, the pain was suddenly gone. Just like that. And it didn't return for a whole week, when I used the same scooter again. So maybe just a nerve damage? I really don't know. Anyways, I'm wearing Saucony Endorphine Speed 2 running shoes right now, and they make a huge difference. Veeeeeery springy and squishy.

No offense, but why not? There are many reputable people that give good information on health on KZread. Of course it’s your choice, but I usually watch a bunch of videos to research something before I make a big purchase. I take everything with a grain of salt. And although I’ll listen to the opinions of people sponsored by the product they don’t carry the same weight as unsponsored reviews. I just spent weeks choosing a new roller skate based on KZread recommendations, and I ended up going with the perfect skate. It isn’t the most popular skate recommended all over tiktok and KZread, but it’s the best one for me. For example some people don’t like the skate I got because it “looks too bulky on them” but I really wanted tons of ankle support and padding. So I chose this more comfortable and higher build quality skate. There’s tons of reputable channels with good info out there.

@@PrivateEyeYiYi oh that’s absolutely the best way to go, although not everyone has those resources easily available or even needs them. Sometimes it takes a long time for an appointment or people need good work shoes but don’t have great insurance. So I try to be mindful of others’ situations. I don’t know if my doctor would really be the best person to help me find skates, but I did ask around other people in my career when looking for work shoes. And when I was choosing soccer cleats I chose based on detailed reviews to find the best cleat for both my play style and the type of grass I play in. I’m glad your doctor was able to help you find a good walking shoe, but I wouldn’t discredit everyone else giving out information. Ultimately fit is important and the only way to really know is to try things on, but even if your doctor recommends something that doesn’t mean it’ll be perfect- you’ll have try to know. I think the best example I know is with motorcycle gear- helmets to be specific. Really the most important thing is that it fits you properly, but learning about different materials, the way they have different shapes and how to measure, how to find the safest helmet for your activity etc. is all stuff I’ve learned from scientific testing on KZread. And it’s better to get information from someone that’s doing objective scientific method testing instead of the company just trying to sell you gear. My take anyway. Wasn’t an attack on you, I just wanted to understand why you felt the way you did.

If you are lifting something or anything heavy or not(unless it's super light like idk a piece of cardboard or something that doesn't take much force to pick up) doesn't have to be gym dumbells you should have proper posture if you don't and you do it repeatedly in bad posture then you are hurting Thorax(T1-6) which is middle of spine and Cervical( C 1-6) or lower back and then causing inproper movements leading to severe pain in spine and cause of Kyphosis and many other problems.
