Real foot doctor explains whether adidas boost shoe foam or adidas bounce midsole shoe foam is better for athletes? Both midsole sneaker foams are made for certain athletes and certain body types but its important to understand their benefits and limitations to the athlete who is wearing them. Whether you are in basketball shoes, tennis shoes, running shoes or other types of footwear, the type of foam in your midsole can mean the difference between peak and lack luster performance.
In this video I also explain the materials used in adidas boost and bounce foam and how those materials and engineering affect the shoes wear, playability, and durability.
This has been an interesting debate as adidas has marketed boost foam as their flagship midsole shoe foam but many professional athletes prefer the performance characteristics of bounce foam more.
So what is the best shoe foam for athletes?

    Amazing channel. Could you possibly do a top five “tennis shoes” that you’d recommend for basketball?? I play outdoors and love playing in low tops and saw one of your videos about how basketball players should maybe give tennis shoes a try. Basketball shoes nowadays aren’ built for outdoors like they use to be. Can you recommend a few for me and other basketball players??? Thanks brotha

    Exactly the same observations from playing basketball. Bounce was amazing in terms of energy return. My feet felt like escaping from myself. But my knees always hurt after playing. With Boost soles it has never happened. I weigt ca. 120 kg.

    Great analysis as always! However you missed a few important details on the boost. The way they're implemented(encasing/placement)and the amount of compression for those pellets. Because different boost sneakers actually have different feelings and performance. For ex, my harden 1's boost feel light, super low to the ground and responsive. But my ultra boosts feel mushy, somewhat unstable and high off the ground. I think you should also take different shoe models into consideration.

    I felt the difference when I tried to play with a LeBron shoe, and Adidas boost and an bounce, I was jumping trying to reach the ring(basket) and the bounce and LeBron were the better ones otherwise the boost made me feel like I was stuck to the ground but felt better when I stricken the ground, basically, zoom and bounce gives you more energy return but not so much comfort and absorption like the boost

    Hello. Thank you for your very enlightening video. I am a 6ft 200lb ocasional jogger that runs every other day around 6mi during my lunch break. I had been using Adidas Supernova + Boost shoes with no problem whatsoever. Last week i decided to upgrade and bought a pair of Adidas Adizero Boston 10 shoes, with lots of technology, carbon plates, this and that foam in the midsole and no Boost. I loved how they felt during the run. But afterwards i might have awaken an old knee injury in the lateral (external) meniscus. It hurts and gets swollen, so i had to ICE until it passed. I guess returned energy (elasticity) came with a price. I will probably alternate shoes to see if i can adapt, or change shoes. Your video might have explained the problem. Thanks. Thumbs up.

The Ultraboost are more comfortable for just standing and walking though. I got them because I was looking for something to wear at work. I remember when I was looking for running shoes and I didn't see any serious channels recommending Ultraboost for that. They all suggested the Boston line instead.

    I'm not a runner, but I am a former tennis player (prior to two neuromas, two torn tendons in my ankles and two torn meniscus). I do a lot of walking with my dogs these days. I've owned a pair of the SolarGlide 5 for a couple years but don't really love them. They're a bit hard feeling to walk on, and have a really weird tongue that I don't love. I just received a pair of Ultrabounce today and am wearing them around the house for the first time. So far so good. I certainly don't intend to play tennis in them but hopefully they will be the walking shoe I've been trying to find. Only paid $26 for them on sale. I only paid $48 for the SolarGlides.

Also the additional durability of the SoleCourt shoes is great.

    Excellent video. I’ve always been a Nike guy but I bought into the Boost hype when the Ultra Boost was popular. It was marketed as a running shoe but I always felt that Boost is way too unstable for high movement & high impact sports (running & tennis for me). Since then it has stayed in my rotation as a daily beater. I agree, for bigger people, Boost is great for that impact absorption but I don’t like the loss of court feel that comes with the plentiful cushioning. I always thought Zoom Air paralleled Bounce whereas Air Max/Max Air (the bubble bois) paralleled Boost. I remembered how “tanky” the cushioning was when I played with the older Courtballistec 3.3’s & 4.3’s and as my movement got better & faster, I preferred that lowered stance and feel of the Zoom Air Cushioning.

    Ive found similar thing. I weared cheap adidas foams and moved to boost. Boost felt uncomfortable. Nike have comfy foam on pricier shoes compared to adidas. Running in those cheap adidas foams was easy.

    I am a heavier player and have two basketball shoes by Adidas, the Dame 3 (which has Bounce), and the Dame 8 EXTPLY (Bounce Pro), and I will say this: Bounce is just fine for me, no knee issues or anything. Bounce Pro does offer some slightly softer cushioning, and I do enjoy it a lot. I wonder how Boost would feel for me.

    Hi Zach! Thanks for this great great content as always. Your reviews are so good I'm now not sure which to go for between the Nike GP Turbo (which I liked from your review of it) and the Adidas Bounce. I'm an all court player but I like my legs gripped firmly tight by my shoes. Which would you advise I go for of the two? Thanks in great anticipation.

    Great channel Zach! What an amazing resource for consumers. I was watching one of your Adidas Solecourt Boost vids yesterday and I thought somewhere you mentioned doing a comparison with the Asics Novak Court FF2, but I can't find it. I'm a 240lb player (mostly sanded synthetic grass), so need a substantial shoe and was tossing up between the two, which would you recommend? Cheers

    I bought adidas aerojolt m running shoes with bounce foam. Main usage wad running and gym lifting. They died out pretty quickly. I don't know if it's because the shoe were of lower end in the price range or because of using them in gym. But yeah... They lost there characteristic relatively quickly.

    If possible, could you please make a analysis of shoe soles v.s. weight of athletes? A 300 lbs male doing cross training, what kind of shoes best fit him? A 120 lbs middle school boy doing cross country running, what kind of shoes best fit him? I find shoe makers used the same mold to mfg their goods. Not many makers out there fit the users by their body weight. In automotive business, tires are fitted according to their payloads, horse powers and purposes. In people business, we only talk about purposes, and fashions.

    Great one Doc! This is exactly why every serious tennis player should subscribe to your channel. Most people think the Boost midsole is the best one from adidas, but as you proved, it's not. I think Bounce midsole gives you also more feel and raw connection to the ground. How would you compare these types of foam with the new one from adidas - Lightstrike? Is it somewhere between Boost and Bounce? I have also one suggestion for future testing the midsole - you could do some slowmotion video droping some small but heavy items like a golf ball on the cutout midsole. It would be interesting to see the energy repulsion. Yonex tested it's midsole with egg drop, although on a much thicker piece: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZdhtMiliJqypKQ.html

    Your video analysis made me think a lot.After my first ball of foot pain (metatarsialgia) from my asics gel resolution 8 (all asics ,-even nimbus- have a "hill" against metatarsia, and that caused me slowly my injury ), i play now with the adidas solecourt boost , and things get slowly better , especially with the orthotic insoles that prevent my foot balls to get pushed down and cause pain.But after your teardown videos in these shoes i can see that there is no boost in front if the shoe.So the question is can i use the courtjam boost and not the solecoust boost in my case?Do they have the same foam in front of the shoe in thikness and structrue (in the point of foot balls)?Do the also have the same anatomy down on your foot, when you wear these two shoes? Cause if they are the same , i could wear courtjam bounce shoes too!.What is your opinion ?

  • @FootDoctorZach

    @FootDoctorZach

    I honestly can’t tell you whether they’ll do well with your foot or not unless I saw you move in them but they are the exact same shape just different uppers and rearfoot foam- everything else was the same

    In your wrap up about the two shoes you mention if you are a basketball player and want more height on jump shot......more energy return if your a runner looking for a speedier shoe for race day shoe go Bounce. You then go on to talk about to prevent more chronic repetitive injuries you also say Bounce, was that an error and you meant to say Boost. So if you are a 6’1” 220 lb person the Boost is probably the best option?

  • @FootDoctorZach

    @FootDoctorZach

    Yep that was just a slip of the tongue sorry about that I actually had to go back and listen to it- I did mean boost for chronic repetitive injuries - for longer duration yea boost is better but if the shoe is newer it’s pretty equal - thanks for letting me know about that btw
