SAIGON, VIETNAM - I will take you on a food tour of the best bánh mì in Saigon. I have been recommended two famous places to try it and one which is more off the beaten path. Both of the famous locations are situated in the heart of Saigon District 1. First up I head to Bánh Mì Hồng Hoa where I get to try and make my own banh mi before trying the pork patty banh mi. After that I go to the incredibly famous and incredibly busy Bánh Mì Huynh Hoa to see if it really does live up to its reputation as the best banh mi in Saigon. Here I eat the classic bánh mì with all of the cold cuts and pâté.
What I can say is, both are delicious. You will need to watch the video to see which is best.
For the third location I go to the backstreets of Saigon (aka Ho Chi Minh City) in a residential area called Bin Tanh. It is around 15 minutes away from the tourist hotspot of Saigon District 1. I eat a delicious $1 Banh Mi away from all the crowds.
Banh mi actually just refers to the bread but of course here we are referring to the sandwich. The baguette is light, fluffy and crispy on the outside. You can see the French influence here. It is eaten by locals as a quick snack and you can find them all over Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
