What Babe has done over the years was amazing and we will never forget that but what Ohtani is facing now cannot be compared to what Babe did. Babe has faced plumbers and farmers….didn’t even face the black players! Ohtani is facing the top talents from all over the world!!!! Totally different level. You can’t really compare these two players apples to apples.

Hard to compare eras, since league wasn’t diverse like right now in 1910s and 1920s - but Babe Ruth dominated in his era like no other though he didn’t dominate on both bat and pitch like Shohei in the season - and probably could have if he didn’t devote to hitting full time with the Yankees. Shohei is dominating on both ends in a league that is diverse, and allowing him to do both. Though he is in a class of his own, a championship or two will put him in the pantheon of all time greats.

The babe played 4 seasons in Boston and was a great pitcher but only hit 49 HRs in 4 years. It wasnt until he went to the Yanks and focused on hitting that he became a great hitter but didn't play against everyone at the time because of segregation. Also, no one was throwing the kind of gas or sliders and sinkers like today. Imo there really is no comparison but the old heads in American TV will continue to pretend.

100 years ago is a big difference in advancement. 100 years ago the world record for 100m was 10.2, now even top high schoolers run that. You can't say Jesse Owens who ran 10.2 is better than Usain Bolt who ran a 9.67. You can't say a swimmer from 100 years ago is better than Michael Phelps. Athletes are more athletic and better with access to superior technology and knowledge. The athletes 100 years in the future will be better than the ones from now. Babe ruth played in an era where they threw a 85 mph fastball with only white people were allowed to play. Babe would be lucky to be in a team in today's league. Babe was a big fish in a small pond, Ohtani is a big fish in a big pond.

How would Babe Ruth perform in today's environment? Not very good. Today's athletes are much bigger stronger more athletic more skills more diverse than 100 years ago. They didn't have computers ipad to study the opponents back then. It is so much more difficult to hit a homerun today than 100 years ago.

@@georgekouts Babe played in the original Polo ground with the Yankees and could barely hit any HR. Then they built a brand new stadium called Yankee stadium and shortened the outfield by 80 feet (quarter of a football field) for Babe and he started hitting HR with his eyes closed. Their guys couldn't hit HR so most of the East coast stadiums were built smaller so their guys could hit HR. that's why Aaron Judge decided to stay in NY because he knows he won't hit more than 50 HR in west coast stadiums.
