I love the orange of monachica but having to choose one the citrina would have more chances to grow well in my climate and give me less to worry about... FFF 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 you are right about the citrina being the one for you based on your climate and hassle free growing. I do struggle keeping monachica happy in the winter here. Even when it is indoors. But yeah... having them both bloom at the same time, for the first time 🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼😃 I have already sprayed 40 ltrs of RO water on my orchids today and the next 10ltrs are currently being harvested in the sink. So windy that I am watching the unicorn umbrella in the reflection of the mirror in front of me as I type 😅 I have jammed it into the hedge, hoping that the gusts will push it to the hedge more than launching it out of it's pot! I have this massive pot now filled with soil, and leca and lowered the height of the umbrella to just shade the deep south, but the wind guts... it is intense out there! I am typing while looking in the mirror 😅😅 good thing that I did do a secretarial course a long time ago and don't have to look at the keyboard all the time. Who knew that it would come in handy for days like these? 😅 I feel like a yoyo today. coming from the North. I love the heat, but, not with the wind! No filming today ... but, I may do a late afternoon splash with the hose on the patio after I get my YT housekeeping done. Hi Karin 🤗💐 the orchitop is it's lifesaver. I lost my other one and I had it in self watering... not saying self watering doesn't work, but maybe with my cold winter temps in the dining room, the monachica did not appreciate that... or my misting could have affected the stem. Either way... orchitop helps create a balance and I hope that as it grows, I can keep up with it's needs 🤞🏼 thank you so much for watching, Karin! Have a wonderful day 🌸

Hi Shirley 🤩💐 It was a difficult decision, so... both was the best option for me. Even when I lost my first monachica, there was no hesitation that I needed a replacement asap! The Orchid Room actually found me the nursery that had one 😅 I hated paying 40$ for shipping, the orchid was 22$... so, yeah... that was not something I was expecting to have to fork out, but, that is how desperate I was to get a replacement. 😬 thank you, Shirley, for watching! Hi Stephen 🤗💐 I am fighting for humidity on the daily for 5 months of the year. Today 22% and 90ºF with strong winds... there would be no way that I could grow these if I did not have them in this set up, just a little microclimate to help them and I have to supplement with a lot of misting. Today I have already been around the orchids misting 4x, and I am not done yet. So... for others in similar climates who wouldn't think to have these orchids because of no humidity ... this works 😅 thank you so much for watching, Stephen! Have yourself a wonderful day 👍🏼🌸

I am glad that it does help 😊 I really struggled while in the US with temperature and distance readings... especially if my GPS told me next exit 1 ½ miles 😅 i switched it to metric, and then my dyslexic head had to block out the signs and just listen and trust! The only way I can gage distances in yards is thinking of golf courses and then I have a pretty good idea 😅 Thank you for letting me know that the conversion on the screen is appreciated! "if you're in front of the shopping cart and you're not going to get them both at the same time" that isn't how orchid buying works. This in cart, this in cart, this in cart, checkout. Wait, my total is HOW MUCH? Well, something has to go. 🤣 That was an excellent side by side discussion to determine which to buy. I was a citrina guy before, seeing as it grows twice as fast, that just cements the deal. Oh, one more non-bloomer on the way to redemption or the garbage can. The plant I bought 4 years ago (a division that became a recue) as Oncidium Irish Mist 'Big Hot Sun' actually is starting a spike . If it isn't Irish Mist, well it will probably be destined for the trash. If it is, well, then I have both clones and all is good. A month or so and we'll know. (doesn't look like "the storm" will amount to much so 😌)

Don Miguel 🥰💐 exactly... that is why I ended up getting both (well, at the time that I bought them, and then my original monachica died 😒) but... maybe there are some out there that have a real level of restraint 🤔 what does that even mean? 🤣 I wish we could cancel the shipping cost at check out 🤓 shady prices added for shipping! Free shipping after x amount $$ amazon should get on to the orchid market and then we can have our orchids next day with free shipping. That would wake up the nurseries fast! Wouldn't that be a dream? Getting your orchids next day?? Thank you very much for your feedback, Michael, very much appreciated. The garbage threat... @@NinjaOrchids I had two sellers contact me "is it OK to send your order?" so they aren't all bad. Yes, send it, don't listen to the hype on the news. We might lose power this afternoon, and I doubt even that. I hope your spike doesn't turn into a kebab. My Lycaste bloomed and the seller sent the wrong plant. It was supposed to be Chita Impulse "Ruby", I got macrophylla. I mean, it was a $10 experiment in "can I really grow these" so I can't be too mad but I would have preferred the deep red bloom of Chita Impulse.

Still have a green spike... we know though, that heat damage can happen in days to come, but, so far, still have it 🤞🏼 what a nightmare today was! I stood under cold water for a long time 😅 did you loose power? Having google that, I see what you mean. But now you know that you can grow them, so.... 🛒🛒🛒😅 What could be a lycaste in my collection is loosing it's leaves. Now we wait to see what it does next!

Hi Nina, the flowers of those two renantheras are beautiful, particularly on these small plants. Being vandaea types I am surprised that they can do well in s/h. Generally I stay away from vandas because they take up a lot of space and require daily watering, I had a vandopsis and a vanda sanderiana, which I gave away because of all the work they required. Thanks for showing us another point of view.

Andre, hi! 🤗💐 you are absolutely right about large vandas! I lost 2 large ones, and am struggling to keep up with the other 2 big ones that I have left. Going to do my best to keep them going, but... the larger they get, the more challenging they get as well. These little ones are hopefully going to be ok for years to come. Good morning! That's a nicely interesting video comparing the two. Given how similar they look at first sight. Honestly so far I just can't keep hot growers afloat, so if I were choosing, citrina would be winning, but I don't like the colour of the blooms. That would be really tough :) Luckily I don't have to choose, both are too big, but I'm glad I can watch them as they bloom in your collection. It's so sweet that I can see the blooms without the hassle of finding space for them. Soon I'll have to attend to my Vanilla monster, because the new crown is getting its 3rd leaf already and 2 aerial roots... yeah, my closed jar experiment went in 3 months from drying up dying Vanilla to a beast taking off in big style :) It's currently in direct sun in the mornings, facing east window, no problems with algae (there are orbatids eating it, dunno how they found their way there, but I appreciate the little guys), no rot issues, there's constantly condensation in the crown among the leaves I was a bit worried about, been checking it daily, but it's *knock on wood* not doing any harm. When the aerial roots start absorbing something, I'll probably cut the new crown (cause there's one more node that wants to grow a crown and the roots it has in the seramis seem to be super strong) and put it in its forever home. I'll try to take some pictures in the afternoon and send you, I always forget :) Have a nice day!

🌸🥷🏼 SnowDragonka San! Good afternoon 🤩💐 I agree with you regarding hot growers! Sounds daft because I am in s'ern Spain but the winters are what make hot growers struggle for me. So, I fully get it. It is nice to have something like the citrina and the parkinsoniana which can tolerate all sorts of temperature ranges and they are still pretty 😃 Same with vandas... today, for example, it is hot (nice!!) but so windy (NOT nice) that I have been busy outside with the sprayer as best as I can. Even now, as I type, my eyes are directed in the mirror in front of me, watching the unicorn umbrella in the deep south protecting the angraecums... no filming today... the 'chiddos need me. The RO system is on full production mode. Everytime I go around to spray the orchids, I finish 10 ltrs 4x already and we are not done yet! I love it... but with the right orchids and vandas are not coping with 32% humidity... so, just like you, I grow vicariously by watching channels that have masses of vandas 😅 I look forward to see your vanilla! That sounds like a total success and if you want, send the pics to me with a little write up as to what you did to get it to be a success, and I will post that on my community page. I am supposed to be able to post multiple images on the community page, but that function has not been made available to me yet. So... just if you want to 😃 I think it could be of interest to others? I really like the monachica but she was not available at the time, so I got the citrina instead 😂 Also, I read that monachica is supposed to be fragrant, I guess it's not true. Your blooms on both are really gorgeous 🥰

I do not have a fragrant monachica, and this is the first time I heard of monachicas possibly being fragrant 😬 well, if you source a fragrant one... let me know! I would love to know what she smells like. I have the maxillaria variabilis, Cousin Itt, not fragrant, but The Orchid Room has a variabilis that is fragrant and smells like caramel. That sounds nice, but I would not know. Sometimes, blooms are so pretty that they don't need the fragrance, and... just to have a monachica that has not died on me, I am so relieved! These are getting harder to find here, so... I don't want to mess this up 🤞🏼 thank you so much for watching, Amerizza!! Wishing you a wonderful day 🌸

Ah the Renanthera monachica is my dream little orchid, I am such a sucker for spotted blooms. But it is SO SO hard to find AND expensive in the States. Yours look so so awesome! Beautiful blooms! WOW!

Great comparison! I had thought about getting citrina because I thought it would be easier to grow and bloom at my old place, but not sure if it would do so well here since it's very warm.

HI Gabrielle 🤗💐 if your temperatures don't go too high... 86ºF a happy margin, then, the citrina will do well for you. Even if my temps rise higher than that, I have her in a bright shady spot, where the atmosphere is a little cooler, and she is doing ok. Having her in self watering helps in my case. Bareroot.... the heat would really take a toll if it is tough to keep up with the watering / humidity! I am looking forward to seeing your new space. I hope I have not missed a video of that. This helps. My ren M. Is growing well and sends up two spikes a year but ren C. Looks stunted and is barely growing if at all. I’m thinking it may have fusarium. Def not growing fast in comparison. Thanks
