Old video, so you'll probably never see this. I have an old Blackbird (pre xlc). I still love it. Weight isn't an issue for me because i only car, canoe or kayak camp. But I've never had a better nights sleep than in my hammock. It's nice to see that other companies are making proper camping hammocks. Most people i know buy an Eno or something similar and never know what a truly good camping hammock feels like. Great info, fellas.

Great review. I bought the old and new WBBB XLC and agree, simple out of the box good hammock. I’m trying to find something a little lighter so your inputs are helpful looking at going with one of those other options.

As I am still what I would call new to hammock camping (4-5 yrs.) this video is a huge help. The hammocks that I have were gifts, two of them were give a ways through a rewards program, one was from Sam's Club and the other is an ENO. I have yet to choose one for myself. Oddly enough those three are what I was looking into. Thanks for helping me finalize my decision.

Dutch halfwit with whoopies and tree straps is 13oz i use that for long trails to keep the base weight down

Nice review! Maybe it's just my ADD but I felt the background music was a little distacting. I only say that constructively.

Great video guys and very Well done. Im in Australia and bought something of all 3 of these vendors to build my setup along with HG all were exceptionally friendly and all were awesome in there service. On a sidenote would love to see some info on the new HG hammock that looks really good as well. And checkout Dream Hammocks stuff sack that incorporates a sock it is freaking awesome as can leave the hammock all setup in windy weather and just pull the sock over.even with a top quilt in there. And makes packing up so easy and keeps it all clean.

Thanks for the video guys. I think I'm the only person I know who's had an accident with their chameleon. I'm a hundred and eighty pounds and I fell through my 1.0 chameleon. Dutchware was quick to send me a replacement hammock I got the wide in a 1.6. I'm a happy hanger once again

Great overview guys. I went from the WBBB Blackbird to Chameleon this summer, after using the Blackbird for a few years. Agree with the comparisons, the WBBB is just a tank but I don’t think I can justify the weight for backpacking, and that’s where the Chameleon is better. One difference that stood out immediately between the two is the sag or stretchiness of the Chameleon. The Blackbird fabric seems stiffer, if that’s the right word. I hit the ground the first time I set up the Chameleon because I wasn’t used to such a sag. This alarmed me at first but after a week of use, the Chameleon is much more comfortable for me. Some, maybe new users, may find the sag a bit unnerving and prefer the apparent stability of the Blackbird. The timeouts of the Blackbird are much different on the head side at least. While I never had the bug net in my face with the Chameleon, with the right set up the Blackbird net is much higher and wider. I’m using the Blackbird in my yard where I can tie out the head side bug net horizontally and gives a spacious feeling. If the tie goes down at an angle, as it usually does, there isn’t so much of a difference. Thanks again and looking forward to future reviews.

Ross - that’s great feedback on the sag and something we’ve talked about in other videos as well. I agree 100% too, WBBB is much stiffer then the chameleon and to me the softer fabric of the chameleon makes it very comfy.

I'm looking at changing up hammocks (the one I have now is way too big and I have issues getting the straps high enough - the SMR Ninox). Of these three ... which one would be short user friendly 5'4" ... (but also roomy for me & my 33lb lab dog who sleeps in the hammock with me on backpacking trips).

Warbonnet xlc just came in the mail, got the double for a pad insert... extremely well stitch, love the asym lay, and the storage shelf is just chefs kiss. Can't praise it enough... I got a kelty 16' tarp so I can have full coverage also the new one that I got you can reverse the lay by flipping the bug net. Got all dynema suspension and in full black because i know when I get the under quilt that's basically all you'll see of I'm not using the big tarp

Would the wook fit the dream hammock darein? Ball park estimate ?

My Darien is hyper D 1.6 and my chameleon is hexon 1.6. The chameleon is about 4-5 oz heavier. I sleep better in my chameleon. But when I need to be more weight conscious I use the Darien. You're right about the pack hooks. I ended up sewing some onto my Darien because I use them all the time on the chameleon

I think in the future I might try to build a more UL hammock setup and will probably go with a custom DH for it. Not sure yet, considering the half Witt too. I might get rid of the WBBB first though if I do that.

Hi - great video. Sounds like you should look at the Dream Hammock Sparrow or Dream Hammock Raven - both are wide and have zippers on both sides.

I'm leaning towards the Warbonnet Ridgerunner with the spreader bars on it. Having the spreader on the ends instead of needing to guide it out looks better to me.

Either of the three are amazing and would work well. Definitely go with a wide version and all of these companies have fabrics that can accommodate you.

Go with the Dream Hammock in 1.7 oz mtn hybrid. I have the Sparrow "wide as possible" and it is amazing. Very wide and very, very comfortable. Check my review at the Dream Hammock website. Order #7767. You can choose your color and anything else you want. I contacted them directly to make my hammock exactly the way I wanted.

Try the Dream Hammock Sparrow. Wide as possible. They will make it any way you want. Under quilt hooks, tie outs...anything you want.

My first choice was the Darien but I think I like the options on the Chameleon better

Lots of good reviews about the Dream and Dutchware hammocks. All the WBBB reviews seem to be about the XLC. I'm under 6'0", so I use the original WBBB which weighs in at 22 oz with the buckle system. Watching your review of the Dream and Dutchware hammocks, the only thing that makes the WBBB better IMHO, is the footbox. I'm sure the others are comfortable, but I get a really flat, diagonal lay in the WBBB original, so much so, that as soon as I lay down in it, I'm asleep in seconds. I sleep better in the WBBB than my own bed. All being said, the Dream and Dutchware hammocks have some cool stuff, so it's all a matter of opinion. For me, the footbox seals the deal.

Your comment relates to my main concern regarding a hammock purchase. I absolutely hate the few hammocks I've ever climbed into because I feel like I'm bent into a U-shape. I don't even want to stay there for 2 minutes. Do you think that War Bonnet makes models that allow the flattest posture of all hammocks?

Love my Bear Butt double hammock.

You said you have moved away from whoopie slings and not use them anymore? Using just tree straps? I have googled around but I don't get how that works... It would be really nice with an overview of your setup and hanging system without whoopie slings since your have found something better. I'm sure it's kind of basic, but I'm new to hammocks and this confused me...! :)

I wish you had a DH Raven to compare to the Chameleon. These are the two I'm considering. I like the Darien, except for the asymmetry. Also, Hammock Gear's new netted hammock seems to be similar to those, and comes in cheaper.

Shoes in a hammock? I just started this year (Florida) and am a avid tent camper. Never, ever had a pair of shoes in a tent. Same as my cheap Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro. But I just received my Dream Hammock Sparrow wide as possible, dark olive hammock, woodland camo cover and woodland camo mosquito net, peak bag, ridgeline organizer and camo peak covers. Probably too heavy for you guys. Going to hang this weekend. Good video.

I went with a Dutch Half Zipped in 1.6 Hexon over the Chameleon. I was ok with the fixed bugnet/one zipper and having only one lay direction. I live in Florida, so going without a bugnet is not an option. Like the Chameleon, it also has pack hooks and is bit lighter and cheaper.

Yeah the half zipped is a cool option. I really only like the full zip so I can put stuff into the hammock from both sides. I personally only enter and exit the hammock from one side.

A fairer comparison would be the Dream Sparrow with those other two. The Sparrow is the top of the line, while the Darien is middle of the line.

Thanks for the video. I have been using a Hennesy Explorer UL for a few years and wanted to try something else but wasn't sure which was to go. Your video was the deciding factor and I picked up Chameleon wide. Overall it's amazing. I have been out probably 10 nights so far. Calf ridge is minimal and if you get the right lay it's non-existent. It is a bit harder to get out of and harder to see our of due to the higher sides but it's still a great purchase. Now I'm thinking about picking up a double layer for winter in the normal width to get a comparison!

Women tend to be wider in the hips and narrower in the shoulders than men. Should this be a consideration when thinking about a wide hammock? I am more of Alex's size than Ali's. :)

I'll keep my old army hammock that's about the best thing I've ever owned maybe from world war I world war II but it works

Sparrow looks like a great hammock, was excited to use for a trip next month but was disappointed to find Dream Hammock doesn’t really have inventory on hand. They have a lot of custom options, but it takes two months to get one of these hammocks. Suggest ordering well in advance of your trip if your set on a DH. I have WBBB and love, however was looking forward to trying the Sparrow as we needed a second bag for my Son. Ended up ordering a custom build from Dutch and it shipped in 3 days.

This might be a really basic question, but what makes these types of hammocks different/better than something like an ENO? This is coming from a ground dweller who hasn’t done any hammock camping.

Eno is a really basic hammock that I believe doesn't come with a bug net or accessories a great lazy hammock but not great for camping

Brent- for the most part ENOs and other budget hammocks are not long enough and cut correctly to achieve a flat lay for sleeping. They are great for relaxing in but won’t cut it sleeping. If you do some research you’ll find that to get a flat lay you sleep on the diagonal which requires longer and uniquely cut hammocks.

@@SchillBrothersOutdoors I'm looking at the wbbb mostly for shelving, etc. but I've been sleeping in a single Eno that hangs in my bedroom for the last 6 months + simply because it was so much more comfortable to sleep in than my luxury cloud-top matress, lol. I bought a slip over Eno bug net that works fine for camping outside (needed in Louisiana!) I've never slept in one like these 'cadillacs' so can't compare, but yes- you can sleep in a cheap one. I'm 5'10", 140 lbs. Also, I lay head-right/feet-left in the symmetrical Eno with no problem. I have the foot end a couple of inches higher (hung closer).

Just starting the video but I gotta say, you guys are the Tarintino of outdoor KZreadrs. Buhahahahaha. Your tunes are always cool as F@#%.

Technically you are comparing the 3 manufacturers based on 3 very different hammocks. It makes no sense to through in a 1.2.oz / wide asym with one sided bugnet and to talk about weight/packsize when comparing with 1.6oz / 58'' wide & removable nets. I agree with your assessment that Dreamhammock offers the widest range of options (5 models all totally customizable, even beyond what is mentioned on their website). If you want something and it can be done, Dreamhammock will most likely do it. Dutchware is somewhere in the middle - the great + being that you can upgrade at a later stage & price are good. Warbonnet will give you great hammocks at good prices, but with little options to customize i.e. on fabrics & sizes.

You said the Chamaeleon is the most modular hammock system, but then you say, that the dream system hammock is the best custom hammock at point of purchase. That makes absolutely no sense I rather have a hammer that I can custom whenever I want versus only at the time I purchase it.

So the millionaire dollar question: which of the three hammocks do you fall asleep in easiest?

I had to mute the audio.. that intro music was trash .. and at much too high volume level. In comparison to not only the average related review videos.. but also to your own voices... It's beyond irritating..

Does it bother anyone else that Warbonnet has a logo of a Native American with a Native American head dress and it's owned by a white man? I bought an underquilt from this company and when I saw the logo I had to send it back and they changed me a 20% restocking fee but I could not stomach the cultural appropriation by this company.

Give me a break ? Most of these companies are headquartered in the US. But made in Vietnam. No exactly made in America. Bakpacks and Tents are also made there. How about showing the manufacturing label? Bet it says imported or Vietnam.
