CommSec Trading Tutorial: How to buy shares and ETFs
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I’ll show you how to buy and sell shares (ETFs, LICs, individual companies) on Commonwealth Bank’s CommSec platform. I’ll cover the sign up page, the CommSec Homepage, looking at specific shares, the trading page where you put your orders in to buy and sell shares and where you go to manage your orders. I’ll also briefly discuss brokerage rates. In this video I’ll go through the process of buying shares for AFIC (Australian Foundation Investment Company). I’ll also do a cheeky comparison of AFIC vs VAS (Vanguard’s Australian Shares).

Hi Sanjee, thanks for sharing very useful information, though i was wondering how do you put the stop loss or initial exit point where you just set up the stock price to follow through from your entry price, once it triggered the price you'd set up you will automatically out of the position with the profit/loss, in simple terms how do you manage your risk?

Hi Sanjee, have you purchased any ETFs that don't sit on the ASX? If so, how has that been for you regarding the International tax requirements?
Thanks for the great information mate 👍. I'm looking at investments of $1000 maybe 6x per year for the next 3 years until my home is paid off. After that i will step up my investment to approximately $1000 per month. ( It can be monthly or a larger amount less frequently to avoid fees!). Would you suggest pocker or consec? Or can i transfer my pocket shares into consec at a later date without to many fees?
Hi, thanks for the video. This may sound like a stupid question but how do I transfer money from my NAB account to my Commsec account? Do I have to transfer it to the linked commonwealth bank account first? And then over to commsec? I can't find this information anywhere
Hi. Could you please clarify this for me? So you execute your trade on Commsec. The purchased shares are now in your virtual possession, however, there is a 2-day delay on payment. So my question to you is Could those shares be sold on the same day even though you have not handed over a single cents for the shares?
great thank you!
Can’t thank you enough🙏🏽
Thank you!!! Amazing tutorial. Could you pretty please do one comparing commsec and Self Wealth? Or have you already done one on Selfwealth premium platform?

Sanjee, great post missing the food making videos...but what are your thoughts on Australian A-Reits given what's happening to commercial property throughout the pandemic??
@SanjeeSen
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joel! Mate how have you been?! Yeah I pivoted away from the cooking videos because it just wasn't sustainable really. I'm more interested in investing and personal finance so it made sense to pivot this way. Yeah I'll be honest I haven't really being paying attention to REITs other than generally through what's been happening to VAP. I mean I'm guessing they'll take some kind of hit because of recent events (office rents and retail rent). But whether corporate Australia is really going to start shutting down entire commercial spaces is probably unlikely to happen. I have been looking to gain a bit more exposure to that sector - but it'll probably be through VAP or a similar index because I'm not familiar enough to look at individual REITs. Feel free to buzz me on the mobile or 03 9016 0269 if you want to chat more :) So good to hear from you mate.
Hi Sanjee. Great video and very easy to follow. I'm not sure if you can help me . I'm just about to start investing and the bank account or cdia is still a little confusing to me. Do your dividend paid dollars or fully franked dividend dollars get paid into your cdia trading account ? If so does the platform make it easy to print of or report at tax time for account. And also does the cdia account act like a normal bank account so I can transfer from other banks or put money in at a branch. Could not find any info on there website that answer this. Thanks in advance and love the videos ! Guy
@SanjeeSen
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Guy great questions. No your dividends get paid to whatever account you setup with the share registry. You should check out my videos on "Setting up your dividends". In there I show you where to setup your bank account details in. Don't stress if you haven't set them up yet though...the money just get's held until you submit your details. Yes the CDIA account should act like a normal account you can do transfers to (it'll have a BSB and Account number). You'll end up using Netbank to do all the transfers.

Hey Sanjee, which company of share is worth to buy ?
Mate, can we order to buy shares of multiple companies? For example $200 worth of shares for one company and $300 worth of shares for another company = total $500.
Can you buy multiple different shares at the same time/ under the one brokerage fee? Say if I want some AFI and VAS, or would that be 2 separate brokerage fees? Cheers
@SanjeeSen
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, great question. Unfortunately that would be 2 separate brokerage fees . Similarly if you bought say 100 shares in AFI today and then bought another 100 shares in AFI tomorrow, that would also be 2 separate brokerage fees. Hope that helps.
Hi , nice video. Please, how can I buy Tesla shares in commSec ?
Amazing video! Just wondering if you cancel your order, would they also give back your brokerage fee?

Hi Stephanie, I believe if you cancel it before they start to execute the order, you should get the fee back. But best to check with CommSec to be sure.
Hi, i am trying to buy my first share via CommSec. Now ... I get the following error 'order not accepted - deposit required' What do i do ? ... no video or tutorial covers what do be done in the Netbank account side before you start Commsec? I assume you have to transfer money into the CDIA account ... this correct? If so, i have done this and the money shown in the 'balance' but Zero dollars shown in 'available'. What should i do OR what is wrong?
hi Sen, I am from India. I used trade in Indian market (nifty and bank nifty options), I need information on broker with best app and less brokerage. which are the best indices (eg. nifty and banknifty) to trade options in Australian markets? What is minimum capital required to trade options?
I opened up a commsec account. I'm trying to transfer some share holdings to commsec acc but it won't accept. I'm wondering if the not having my middle name on some of the shares whilst my account has my middle name causes problems.

@SanjeeSen
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kate, this is the maximum amount you're willing to spend per share on your transaction. A good place to start is to consider what the latest price was when it last sold.
This was a very good presentation and i learnt a lot from it, however when i went to place an order it said the order could not be accepted due to minimum purchase required by CommSec, do you mind explaining this a little further please
@SanjeeSen
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Isabelle, glad you liked the video. Yes CommSec has a minimum requirement of $500 for each purchase. So when you make a purchase, the total value of the shares needs to be $500 and more. This CommSec article should help: www.commsec.com.au/support/help-centre/placing-a-trade/minimum-shares-i-can-purchase.html#

Hi mate, no worries I've put it on the list. I don't think it'll be coming anytime soon though. For now I'm quite happy to invest internationally through buying international ETFs which are listed on the ASX. You can check out my video on that here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dWaj0bSxYpWdddo.html
This is so simple mate, cheers. Only thing though is like how do you actually choose which specific company to invest in shares for?
@SanjeeSen

Yeah that is the tricky one! There are some handy videos out there about "fundamental analysis" or "intrinsic analysis" of shares. Those might be a good start. Otherwise it really is a guessing game.

Hi yes great question. The video I did on brokerage can be found here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqmhq9yziMfIeNY.html The key thing is to try and find a "purchase price" for your parcel of shares that minimises how much the brokerage cost accounts for in the total transaction cost. Hope that helps.
