Clyde was very underrated as a vocalist. He was the one who sang lead on some of their funkiest cuts like Brick House and Too Hot To Trot, but Lionel is the one who gets all the credit. Show Clyde some love because he did his thing here.

Walter Orange was very underrated. I always thought he was the cutest one.

I and my late husband got married in 1980 and "in the pocket" by the Commodores was one of first records we bought. Fond memories.

This one deserved more airplay. Great song and the performance was amazing!

This is the Commodores drummer Walter "Clyde" Orange singing lead on this song. It is a favorite of mine. He lead sings Brick House and Too Hot ta Trot and I Feel Sanctified. Wish he was able to sing more. Eddie Levert and Walter Williams shared lead on the O'Jays as did Maurice and Phillip Bailey on Earth, Wind, and Fire. Thanks for loading this song.

I remember being a teenager, I had a tape recorder with two powerful speakers and I would play this song by the commodores over and over again. Never got tired playing this song even today. Walter "Clyde" Orange sang lead on "Brickhouse" as well as several latter hits by the group including "Nightshift" and "Only You," the latter a tender ballad very much in the style of Richie. I think Walter's voice is better than Lionel's. Of course few would argue who was the better songwriter or had the most solo potential. Lionel wins that hands down. Walter Orange though, was a vital part of the post-Richie Commodores as well as the lineup when Richie was still in the group.

Lionel wasn't the only one who could sing : ) I lived on this song as much as any other when I was a little nuggit : ))

William King is alive and well and still performing with Clyde Orange and JD Nicholas as the Commodores. Milan Williams went on to the Nightshift in 2006, RIP Captain Quickdraw.
