    So far ahead of its time. I loved these machines. I feel so old. I still remember walking into the mall and being blown away by the power and abilities of this computer. Years before the PC industry could even visualize the potential of PC's. The fact that it was used so heavily in TV and motion pictures is testimony to that.

    "Introducing the only computer you'll ever need." Oh I love the exaggeration of the early computer times, everything was naturally best and would last forever.

    I've still got my miggy 500+ and it still provides tons of fun! Not bad for a 20 year old computer. I really wish Commodore had not gone bust. The computer business can be so cruel at times :(

    All this talk about bringing the amiga back, it aint even gone, there's a massive amiga community out there, it's very much alive & kicking. I have all my amiga computers still, stored away unfortunately as I have no room to have them all set up along side my pc.

    I love the bit where they're effectively derping with outlook whilst printing and working on two different word documents ... all that on a 68k with a half meg of memory. Did anyone ever do all that though? (I've recently come into the C-A world with an A600, and I still haven't figured out how to make Workbench multitasking work - the drag-down workscreens etc. I fear it'll be relegated to a games machine only...)

    During the 80's I was given a very expensive IBM PC... but with no software except for DOS and BASIC. Looking back, a Amiga would have been better. Inexpensive hardware and cheap software. LINUX would be such a great laptop/desktop computer only if it was as consistent and reliable as their server variant. All the software are free. But, currently plaqued with all sorts of incompatibilities, inconsistencies and bugs. Just setting up and keeping a desktop LINUX running takes a degree in computer science.

    The whole problem was.... You never saw this commercial on TV! The Amiga adds were few and far between. Had they showed a series of commercials comparing Amiga VS (Mac or PC or ST or anything else), they could have taken the crown, but because of the man who owned the controlling stock, they never did it. Just a few stupid commercials that were fluff and impressed no one. Sluggo

    I would like to see what an AMIGA type computer would be doing TODAY. Don't forget that in the same generation as the other machines these guys were at least 10 years ahead of the PC. Heck, PC's have only JUST gotten fast enough to emulate an amiga properly. The PC vs Amiga battle is a tribute to how well you can do with a good marketing department even if your eng. dept is (comparatively) retarded. Commodore got Dumb. "Sure we loose a little on each one but we make up for it in volume!"

  • @zippydebrain
    @zippydebrain14 жыл бұрын

    True enough but the Amiga had a functional and reliable (as of 3.1 anyways) operating system that could work in under 1 MB of RAM...think about it. Even WIndows 98 wasn't happy unless you had 32MB of RAM and current OS's will use up to 512 MB JUST FOR THEMSELVES. Sometimes to 1 GB. More than 1000 times more memory needed...is there 1000 times more functionality? Not really... Don't get me wrong what windows machines are doing today is, on the whole, way cooler than the old amiga...

    My smart phone still can't do some of of this stuff with 4000 times more ram and my pc can do it but it has a lot of strange bugs causing lag and slowdown it seems completely random sometimes i can have 100s of tabs open but with no problem but other times it just fucks up im not sure how much you could run at the same time on the amiga or how much it crashed.

  • @Lambonights

    Where did C= "hide" this kind of promo? It's a bit controversial to watch this now, knowing that the revolution AMIGA could have brought in business productivity (MANY,MANY years before the "abominable" pc's :-) ) was never adopted by society, and AMIGA was mainly treated as a "GAME" machine. If C= could only invest a little bit in the right advertisement, maybe today no one would know words like "Microsoft"or "windows". Too bad for the world, that possibility never happened :-(

    You need to buy an actual "Scan Doubler" that will output to at least a VGA Signal. the A520 will give you an absolute crap picture compared to an actual monitor. (Try to find an old Amiga monitor, then compare the picture quality using an old style TV and an A520 adapter). Here is one option on Ebay, (there are many so look them up, I still have yet to find an Amiga to HDMI adapter, which would be the ultimate!). This is a popular one on Ebay : www.ebay.com/itm/RGB-RGsB-RGBS-With-Hf-15Khz-to-VGA-Scan-Line-Doubler-Amiga-Atari-Apple-IIGS-/251196334841?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a7c77e2f9 Good Luck Sluggo

    Amiga's multitasking was a nightmare. I was lucky if I could get a text processor running next to a file manager without any of them crashing after a minute. If Windows 95 is a big improvement over your previous system, you _know_ you were in trouble before!
