During the demo in this live recording a vertical stripe is to be seen during the flescos mode part displaying some pictures in that new graphics mode.
Trident of Fairlight explains the following about that for for you, the viewers of this live recording on this youtube channel. “On a normal c64 the demo works great - the problem only occurred at the compo. The problem was with the way that the video signal was being fed to the big screen at the compo.” Trident explains and continues: “To get that super-crisp image that they had at the compo, the organizers used a special hardware thingy: a small board that attaches between the C64 motherboard and the VIC chip and captures the video signal right there. That video signal is then sent to a small chip for a bit of processing before it goes into an HDMI cable to the projector. The current hypothesis is that the flescos mode triggers a bug inside that chip. “
Greetz to Trident and The Sarge Keep on rocking!!
Also greeting to Bacchus and The Hobbit and the rest of Fairlight! When Dreams Come True!

As an old 80s democoder this blows my mind. You could be forgiven to believe it was made on an Amiga.

They have squeezed the last drops out of our beloved C64 including the VIC-II ghost-bytes for the border magic... just incredible.
The winning demos always find the right balance between technical ability, storytelling, music and style. Fairlight knocked the ball out of the park, once again. It's been a pleasure to be alive to see their work. 1010/1010.
Fairlight Demos always come with a PHAT BASS!
Just like rice grain painters are able to create beautiful paintings on a tiny canvas, the c64 demoscene wizards never cease to amaze me! It's creativity in spite of restrictions. THIS is ART!
The skill of these guys is so underrated in this society. From my pov, these guys have to become all the awards and everything you can get. Not some singers or actors. These guys have to come the oscars, the music awards and the nobel peace prize, because they are geniuses in their craft. fucking amazing geniuses!
10:30 That endpart leading to the culmination of everything, and supported by this driving soundtrack, always gives me goosebumps!
thank you so much for this upload. In the beginning I found the crowd to be a bit tame for what seemed like amazing effects - luckily, everyone was warmed up by the end. Fairlight, never stop making C64 demos please! And please save us from AI....
I never dreamed or imagined the Commodore 64 was capable of this level of performance. Gonna shock a lot of people with this Demo.
Really well designed demo! I didn't know X was still alive. Thanks for sharing the live party stream

Absolutely outstanding, got to be the best music I’ve ever heard from the C64

I think there is some "cheat" in it. Kickbass feels too deep, and too pure to be generated by SID chip of C64. Flange effect also. But even so I love chiptunes made by Fegolhuzz. This demo has super groovy tracks, but my favorite is stil music of the demo called "the space is broken".
Awesome. Top of the line coding skills. They don't code like this anymore. We had to back in the day and we loved it. Great demo Fairlight!! You still got it and it makes me happy to see your skills. Thanks for the joy. Greetings from Sly (Orion).

Borderline magic 0:48 :) Most people didn't even realize that right after the RUN screen, it displayed border-less graphics on all sides... amazing.
This demo is magic :)

Amazing ❤❤❤❤ 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The art in this one is SO GREAT!! Excellent demo, and check that full screen graphics! Is that full screen as in 48 bytes of graphics per line now? Nice!! I did not want this one to end. It's compelling.
soooo geil🎉 - Thank you Fairlight❤
that's just fantastic
The soundtrack and all was so nice. Thanks again. LDA
Amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Top Notch!
The explanation for the vertical stripe in flescos mode sounds like a cOpperdragon VICII Dizer & RGB2HDMI (PiZero with firmware & LUMA Code Receiver) combination was used for conversion to HDMI. This is the only device on the market now that works in this way. Sounds like a possible firmware update to me.

Do you think they use sta, stx, sty to S+$3BFF (the garbage byte when you open top/bottom border) in rapid successions, and then display two sprites while it loads the a,x y agin., repeat
Unbelievable, that was super cool.
2:48 Its always amazing to see an old 8 bit computer have scaling that smooth.

I remember the first few people who started the leet movement on the old bulletin boards in the 80s. Thought nothing would come of it. How wrong was I? 😂
