Animated Amiga Tribute by Eric Schwartz
Фильм және анимация
The song "Still Alive" is a little past it's prime today, and in fact I could have had this up in January, but I'd been trying since then to get usage permission from Valve software, with no response at all except some positive comment from songwriter Jonathan Coulton (Thanks John!). So - I'll just recommend that everyone who likes the music either buy the game Portal, or the music CD/track downloads from Amazon. Hope you enjoy the vid.

We had a room full of Amigas in middle school and high school for the Visual Arts program. I would've done anything to own one. Eric's animations were well passed around.
The Amiga still blows the PC away in the desktop department 30 years later. The customisability of the Miggy has never been matched. Shame I really miss that.
"Now these points of data make a beautiful line and we're out of 'beta,' we're releasing on time." It's actually a dig on the fact that Half-life 2 took forever to be released and "Portal" was released "on time."
I've been watching this for years now. Every so often I get the urge, and bring it back up. This is perhaps my favourite video on KZread.

Very strange video, especially the end. I have to say that the average person wouldn't get even half of the stuff in here if they didn't grow up with Amiga or Commodore computers.

This is how the Amiga users feels now. In Europe,.. especially Germany Amiga is still living a commercially life. Eric represents Amiga users today in such a great way in this video. Amiga users in Europe are different as Amiga 500 was a big seller here and its still going on!

i got every reference and i have been using Amiga since 1988 Eric Nailed it.. thr Public Domain Disk Scene the DEMO scene.. Jay Miner (who invented the AMiga) to Fred Fish King of Public Domain to even Eric himself as an animator like Tobias Richter from his old AGA days.. the average person wouldnt get it.. but AMIGA users looking back certainly will :)

Eric is also one of the world’s first indie furry animators as he did his first animation on a Commodore Amiga all the way back in 1989 which was of two of his anthropomorphic characters! :)

It's true, the Amiga just had this kind of magic
Had several Amigas over the years. All loaded with the Video Toaster. Was the heart of my video production company until Amiga went out of business. Fun computers! And Lightwave rocks. :)
I remember watching this with my dad. Great little animation, brings back memories.
Can't believe this was made on a machine from 1994, Only Amiga.
the amiga 1000 was at least seven years ahead of its time if we talked about hardware but if we think about the os, it was near 10 years... Just compare what can run on the amiga 1000 vs what can run on any computer from 1985 and you'll get the point.

You right ... unfortunately those 7 years became 6, 5 ... and even after 1200 / 4000 became -1, -2 ...
You made me cry! I am so happy!

Just discovering this. This has moved me to tears as well, it's so emotional!
Happy Birthday, Amiga! Thumbs up if you're going to Amiga 30 in Cali!
These animations aged like fine wine
This song fit the Amiga story like the proverbial glove!
Good old Eric Schwartz :) Loved his stuff for years.. Also love my Amiga(s)! :D I don't have my dream Amiga, just two upgraded A1200s..
Lyrics created with the cooperation by Lemonamiga This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: Huge success. It's hard to overstate My satisfaction. Aperture Science. We do what we must Because we can. For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are dead... But there's no sense crying Over every mistake. You just keep on trying Till you run out of cake. And the science gets done And you make a neat gun For the people who are Still alive. I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart And killed me. And tore me to pieces And threw every piece into a fire. As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you! Now these points of data Make a beautiful line. And we're out of beta We're releasing on time. So I'm glad I got burned Think of all the things we learned For the people who are Still alive. Go ahead and leave me. I think I prefer to stay inside. Maybe you'll find someone else To help you. Maybe Black Mesa... THAT WAS A JOKE, HA HA, FAT CHANCE. Anyway this cake is great It's so delicious and moist. Look at me still talking when there's science to do. When I look out there It makes me GLAD I'm not you. I've experiments to run There is research to be done On the people who are Still alive. And believe me I am still alive I'm doing science and I'm still alive I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive While you're dying I'll be still alive And when you're dead I will be still alive Still alive Still alive.
we are getting older but Amiga stays!
I am crying, how beautiful and so true !
that was adorable. i never owned an Amiga but had great fun playing on my friends' ones.
Your skill at animation shows in spades here. You get such wonderful expression from otherwise limited objects/simple shapes. Truly inspirational to all us DAS animators old and new! :).
That was beautiful time.. I realy miss my Amiga..
Really brilliant Eric! Enjoyed this very much, and can't stop repeat playing it. Every time, I see a new detail. *Amazing* how well the portal lyrics and sentiment fit the Amiga story. Glad you recognized that and illustrated it so well for all of us to see. And the Ami character is delightful! I think you could just about build a franchise out of her. My 3 year old likes her about as good as Elmo now!
Awesome! Glad to see you still around, Eric. You actually pushed back some energy towards our little great world :-)
this was awesome!! i watched eric's animations since the old amiga days, great job

The whole voice and cake part reminded me of Aperture and Portal :P Loved it...
Great piece of stuff, and respect for Eric, and whole Amiga community for keeping this wonderful computer alive!
Awesome!!!! Thanks Eric!
May you continue to enjoy your Amiga, thanks for keeping it alive with us. I thoroughly enjoyed this, nice use of the A4000. Fellow Amigan.
I used to always look forward to Eric Schwartz animations for my Amiga. Glad to see he's still around
I never owned an Amiga, but I did grow up with DAS. This video brings back so much great nostalgia of using it over 20 years ago. The simple but emotive animation here is excellent. Great work, sir!
Amazing how Eric took the words from a modern pc computer game and used it to enlighten us about the Amiga. This is truly a master at work and the song just makes my hairs stand up....amazing!
that actually brought a tear to my eye. I MUST save and get a new Amiga!!
That was awsome! What a great re-use of the song. Perfect match of concepts and great storytelling beyond the original.
Absolutely brilliant! I've always been a fan of Eric Schwartzs work, and of the Amiga - the best computer system I've ever used.
love it, it's so evil, especially at the end. Great job dude!
Thanks Eric... man, you made me cry. This is the best video I'll have in my favourites for a long time to come and definitely a must for any Amiga enthusiast. A masterpiece from a Master. Amiga forever!
This is some A++ animation there. I friggen love the style
Great! Brilliant! Fantastic!... and still the Amiga is ALIVE and stays alive with this kind of contributions. Beautiful song and very good animation. Thank you, I enjoyed it very much!
This animation is fantastic, as fantastic is the song! Great job Eric, it was so touching to watch it! It is true: other PC's are just machines, Amiga was a dream and it will be alive forever!
Recently bought an Amiga A600 again, they're so sweet I just couldn't live without one. Amiga FOREVER
The development team of the Amiga left a little bit of the heart and soul imprinted in the silicon. It's a spirit you can't break :-) Nice work!
Stunning! I still love my Amiga too Thank you for this video.
That was so many different kinds of awesome. Excellent work!!
Thanks for uploading this. Another classic animation by Eric Schwartz. I definately got to get my hands on the DVD containing most of his best work (art and animations) now :) &eB
almost brings a tear to the eye, amazing work
still love this vid. good ol' memories!
Amiga FTW!great work on this Vid mate cheers!we miss this magic era!
Am hooked on this video for four days. Love the song, love the animation. Thanks again for contributing to this little Amiga world. Eric Schwartz rules! Amiga rules!
Vampire cards, new cases, new games being released...all for the Amiga. She's still alive.
OMG! Totally awesome dude! I had never heard the song before, I didn't think that was Paula! Fantastic work Eric, THANK YOU for all the years, I love you man!
Beautiful, just beautiful. I truly miss the Amiga. It was a great machine, and died far too early a death.
I knew you are a great animator and this is another proof. Wonderful piece!!
You're still the animation man Mr. S!!! Still alive in my house and enjoying Amiga OS4.1 update 2 every single day :-)
Thank You Eric ! Awesome video, and the music as well ! TRUE AMIGA USERS NEVER GIVE UP
Utterly inspired. The facial animations are just wonderful. I hope you get (more?) recognition within the animation community for this. Thanks for posting it!
This is so wonderful! 'She' is very much alive! I can't even find the right words to express how very much alive the Amiga is. And much is thanks to you Eric. Your animations left thousands of us amazed over what could be done and inspired us to push harder and become as skilled as possible. This is by far the most wonderful video I have ever seen. A BIG thank you. (And now I'll have the cute amiga-voice singing in my head all day =) )
That was wonderful!!! It put all of my old DAS animations to shame, but brought back some wonderful memories :) Great song too.
Eric Schwartz - Amiga Legend...... I still have two operational Amiga 2000's.... love 'em
This is awesome! Well worth waiting for. Thanks for bringing back memories of my favorite game of the 80's... TV Sports Football on the Amiga....

Hey man, how are you doing nowadays?
You made me cry man! This is just AWESOME! Still got around 10 Amigas in my house, and my old BBS-machine, the A1200 is STILL running on my desk with the BBS connected. But this video. It's creepy, makes my tears come, remembering all the good times with the Amiga. Those days will never come back. *sniff*. For some reason I'm feeling sorry for the iMac in this video, maybe because I finally found a platform that gives me SOME of the good old Amiga feeling,Mac OS X on my MacbookPro :)
too many memories.Nowadays, the generation of the kids have everything making they loose their imagination. There was no better feeling than been waiting for that moment when the games had their firsts "voices samplers" or when you crashed with your car and you could see the firsts sprites making your windshield looks broken. Those times had gone but they are always turned on in me heart and cannot be replaced with anything. What a memories. C64, C128, A-500, AGA 1200. My beloved girlfriends.
Given the history of AMIGA, the lines 'broke my heart and killed me, and tore me to pieces, and threw every piece into a fire' really fit well. ^^ Good job Mr. Schwartz!
Truely a great animation! It gave me the warm Amiga "fuzzies" all over again. Excellent!
Fantastic job for your work. fantastic music and FANTASTIC computer this amiga. I was 15 in 88 when i had my A500...
Very well done! I like the scene with the "go ahead and leave me". :)
this tribute is so indescribably awesome...
I am simply amazed how well this song fits this animation and Amiga's history generally. And of course Amiga is alive, not only by emulation, there are tons of new hardware that are more or less Amiga clones, and same for software. It is so cool. Great great great video.
November, 2018. STILL ALIVE!!!
Fantastic! The characterization was perfect.
this got to be the most geek & also cute thing ill seen in my life. I love it.
My A1000 is still alive! With the PhoeniX-Board from 1991 :)
excellent, beautifully-made, happy, sad, and bittersweet at the same time.. nice job, Eric..
Nice animation, epic choice of music. Portal is ridiculously awesome :)
I can't stop watching it... Now I wanna download Mr Coulton's song...
Wow... that was pretty amazing. I never owned an Amiga as I was an Atari ST user and currently a Mac user but this really depicts the Amiga spirit that I've heard of. Very nice.
Heartwarming. I admire this machine and its makers.
You obviously never had an Amiga. It truly was something special, that I fear will never be replicated. I still miss my Amiga, altho it's been over 10 years since I last saw it.
That was awesome. Excellent job Eric!
WOW a long time since i seen something new by eric in animation... god the amiga computer is still so awesome!!!!!
FREAKING AWSOME in every way!!
the entire movie was made on an amiga, it was only on a mac [for editing] for pure compatibility with youtube - plus, in the days of amiga the resolutions were entirely wrong, so a modern machine is blatantly needed to edit the movie for a modern platform. The movie was created on Amiga in this day and age, which I find quite frankly amazing.
Wonderful work. And so apt too. Cheers Eric.
Utterly brilliant... I think its your best ever... Hello Amiga lovers still alive outthere! Aren't we the lucky ones to have witnessed this era? I think we are! Greetings, Marvin - AmigaScene NL
Just plain WONDERFUL...
Cried watching this, old Amiga fan here. Sadly i let it go about 5 years ago. Dreaming of a future with Amigas. Cheers fellow Amigans :-)
A master piece. Excellent job. Congratulations.
Eric Schwartz is my hero. Loved all his Amiga animations. He showed real knowledge when he did Amy The Squirrel in all the different animation styles. Eric Schwartz made waiting for the next PD CD compilation so worthwhile. Thank you Eric.
Totally brilliant!
Beautiful....No Other Word For It.... It Actually Brought A Tear To My Eye. Eric Schwartz, You Did An Amazing Job Sir!
Wow! I love Eric Schwartz animations. I'm very glad to see something new! AMIGA RULEZ FOREVER!
The sequence of the poisoning of Window for the cake and the expression of Mac when seeing him happened it is funny. 5/5. favs.
The B.B. Gun rocks my socks. Hell, the whole video does. I'm so sad that this wonderful series of machines didn't come out on top commercially, but glad that it's still loved by so many folks. I was around when the Amiga still made most everything else look as though it'd come from the Digital Dark Ages.
Wow, great video. I still find myself thinking sometimes about the alternate universe where Commodore actually figured out how to properly market this amazing computer that was easily 15 years ahead of its time. Bravo!
Thanks Eric...awesome work! Amiga lives!
oh, that was sooo nice! I love your work. It's great to see amigians out there! Amiga rulez! Forever!
I was at an Amiga user group here in Dallas and we showed this running OS 4.1 on a Mini-Amiga (G3 I believe). This video made me fall in love with the Portal song. :D Cute vid.
That was AWESOME!
Just wonderful. Everything from the gateway cows to the double checks and the mistakes of the CDTV and A600... And done on an A4000T. I miss the Amiga.
I can't stop watching this! I think the best bit is where the PC eats the virus and slowly croaks as the Mac panics and runs away. BTW, this is probably the first time I've ever seen an Eric Schwartz animation, even though I was a long-time Amiga user back in the day and I knew about him then and saw several stills of his previous work - I was just never into his style of animation. But this ROCKS!
