Commandant speaks about the first black Marines
In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order No. 8802, establishing fair employment to erase discrimination in the armed forces. August 26, 2010, marked the 68th anniversary of the first black recruit in the United States Marine Corps. Commandant of the Marine Corps James Amos spoke at the anniversary event.

Semper Fi. I didn't know how long black Marines where segregated. As an African-American Marine I never thought about what those men must have gone through in the same places that I was stationed. I don't know if I would have had the discipline the it took to make it in the Corps when the very organization that I was trying to be part of did not want me as a member. Those men were trail blazers and I would like to say thank you,it is not much but it is heart felt.Thank you.
I'm 61 yrs. old By God If I could Live to See a African-American to be President of USA I Hope to See a African-American to be Commandant of USMC.

I'm surprised that John Martin's name was not mentioned. John Martin enlisted in Philadelphia on April 1776. That makes him the first black American to enlist in the Marine Corps.
Growing up white, I remember the first time I shook a black man's hand I was surprised to discover it was warm. The enemy doesn't care what race you are - you are just an equal opportunity target. The sooner we see it the same way the more likely we are to survive.
Those Black Marines paved the way for all minorities especially the African American officers & enlisted men and women. Semper Fi!
My Gunny was a Black Marine--correction, he was a Marine, just like me. I am disgusted with the racist stuff I see on this page. Gunny , forgive them, they know not what they say. They are certainly not Marines.
I went to MOS at Monteford point
As a young black man who aspires to join the Marine Corps, it feels good to see strides being made, and for our predecessors to be well remembered. My Grandfather was a Marine in the Korean War, and he was tougher than nails ~Future U.S Marine Marcus Delk of KFHS, going into my Sophomore year ⚓️🌎🦅
God Bless Our Marines Thank You for your Service
I had the opportunity to meet US Marines from Montford Point when I was the Finance Director of the national Foundation of Patriotism. My heart, my respect and to see that shook me to my foundation what those Marines had to endure. Their blood is in my veins and I am so proud of them. God Bless the Marine Corps & God bless those Marines men & women.

DOD needs to figure out how to bring more diversity about in its upper ranks. Minorities overall are still vastly under represented in officer corps. It would be great to see one day a black, latin, Asian, or female commandant. There are a few veterans of the earliest days of Afghanistan I can think of that are well qualified

While I was a grunt 106 gunner in H and S Co. 3-1-1 at Camp Schwab Okinawa in the '60s, our other half of the barracks was the Flamethrower Platoon. In an outfit designed to splash through the surf and clamber up deep sandy beaches in the face of enemy fire, we were all aware that the last guy that the enemy wanted to get close to them was the guy with 70 pounds of jellied gasoline on his back. It didn't escape our notice that every man in that unit was black. I'm 78 years old now and I think about the Corps every single day.
It's only because of NCIS that I learned of Montfort Point... and im an amateur historian with a special interest in the second great debate.
Very nice

Korean Peninsula because nobody gives a fuck about Asians. I'm an Asian myself and we are completely underrepresented and don't care about this bullshit anyways.

@HtcDroidIncredible same hhaah then woke at 4:30. then ALL DAY LONG lol
@140662amarildo How bout the Koreans been oppressed for 100 years, but been harrassed by the Chinese and Japense regime for Centuries. I dont know any Korean American hero that I can name of but I know there is the first Korean American Marine Corps General Col. Daniel Yoo. And the Marine Corp spread throughout nationwide, and hit South Korea, causing the 2nd largest Marine Corp in the world, the ROKMC. The true hero's that fought in Vietnam War was the ROK Army and ROK Marines.

Never liked Amos. Too much of a politician.
If you enjoyed this video, then I recommend the video on "The First White Marines in Black Civilization." .....oh wait, there isn't one. Developed countries which are desirable to live in are either European or Asian.
