This game is the reason I ended up in the VFX industry. Game cinematics were unbelievable. I wanted to work for Westwood Studios, but it was gone, by the time I joined the artist ranks. Was offered to work for EA, but to me they were the company, that destroyed my beloved childhood icon. To accept, would be to betray my principles.

@@JabamiLain Still working in visual effects 20 years after joining the film industry. It's easy to transition to gaming from where I'm at, if I ever choose to. Right now there is a Hollywood writers and actors strike happening. Pretty much everyone is on hiatus. It gives me time to think on whether I want to continue along the old path, or switch venues. With film, you get union strikes. With games, you get to work on years long projects, only a handful of which make it to the market. And you can be under an NDA, meaning after a lot of hard work, you'll have zero to add to the portfolio, and won't even be allowed to talk about what you did. That's demoralizing. People burn out quicker. I have no regrets about where I ended up. It's close enough to where I wanted to be.

@@enilenis hey, by curiosity, Soviet or Allied Forces ? Personally, and God forgive me, even if I know the ending, Soviet, because unlike the americans, you try to get both the Iron Curtain and Chronosphere, which could lead to an unparalelled level of technological progress. If only that incompetent general had made a better job at ensuring I acquired it. And I'm pretty sure Stalin didn't help either. Feel bad for the villagers. But when we talk about the future, certain questions must be asked, among them what is going to change and what is going to remain.

@@JabamiLain I always played Soviet. The tanks were more powerful. Cinematics - more fun. I loved the Mammoth tanks in the Aftermath addon. Stalin - he's dead at the end of the original Red Alert, but then, technically, past Yuri's Revenge, it goes into time travel. The death of Einstein in Red Alert 3, would've revived Stalin, overriding this original timeline. I mean, it's a game in a fictional universe. Anything goes. It's just fun all around. Westwood employees, I heard, stayed late after work, because the games they made were so addictive, the programmers themselves couldn't stop playing.

All things considered, the player character is probably on the verge of Hell as the campaign ends... 1. Their army is overextended because a campaign that should have taken a year was pushed to conclusion in just a few months, due to petty reasons like Stalin's Birthday and his obsession with the Chronosphere. 2. Because of Stalin's purges (and the deaths of every other named character) they have been handed a massive responsibility to handle almost entirely on their own, with no one to delegate to. 3. The entire western world (and probably everyone else) seriously hates your guts due to the dozens of war crimes on your resume; the only diplomacy you'll engage in from then on is via threat, and most of your army is tied up pacifying Europe. 4. Unless Kane goes public (he won't; he's too smart for that) everyone will assume you seized leadership by force. You have NO legitimacy beyond _"might makes right",_ so it will be a free for all as the "glorious Soviet Empire" tears itself apart over scraps of power. 5. Don't flatter yourself into thinking Kane gives a $#@% about you; you're just another Nadia to him. Heck, he sacrificed millions of lives just to exploit the resulting chaos. I imagine you'll be spending many sleepless nights waiting for the moment he decides you're just another loose end (a moment that _will_ come eventually). In short, the only thing worse than living in hell... is actually needing to _rule_ it.

You get it, I feel this only brings more legitimacy into this being the prequel to C&C 95, it would explain why Europe remains such a devestated warzone, the Soviet regime will collapse soon enough after Kane gets you into power, not to mention that all traces of Chronosphere technology will have been lost by then too, and this can only mean a disenfranchised Europe, with the masses having uptmost hate for the Soviet Union and what it had done to them, this bring hate, it brings extremism, all in Kane's favour.

@@Nuuk_Nuke_Nook The world of C&C 1 is closer to the real mid-1990s, Russia being relatively weak and close to the West under Yeltsin which was why it was in GDI. China was in the midst of the Third Taiwan Strait Crisis with tense relations with the US, probably why it was said to side with Nod. Afghanistan, Libya, Iran, Sudan, Iraq, North Korea and Syria being considered Nod affiliated was understandable. I think Generals was closer to the Soviet ending of Red Alert 1. In the Soviet ending, The Soviet ends up in a Cold War with US and Communist China might chose to side with the US like in the 1980s for fear of Soviet hegemony or ideological difference after Stalin's death, making the Sino-Soviet split happened earlier. The Soviet having to hold Europe after being exhausted by the war and being in Cold War with both the US and China collapsed with worse condition than real life. Europe and Russia was still recovering from the collapse in the time of Generals, which explained the relative lack of European and Russian military in Generals, as well as strong Chinese influence in Central Asia.

I think the reason Kane shot Nadia was to legitimize the player as the successor to Stalin. Stalin was poisoned and then shot by Nadia several times, Kane shooting Nadia removed any other witnesses, but the player and Kane. A story could be spun that the player, a war hero, avenged Stalin by killing his assassin, considering it was the word of a war hero and Stalin's advisor nobody thought to question it. The only relevant Western power left by that time would probably be only the US and ANZAC, many of "everyone else" would be too busy overthrowing European colonial rule.

The real Stalin literally was in that situation regarding Zhukov, he was paranoid Zhukov would use his popularity and standing in the military to overthrow him. Which he solved by assigning Zhukov to positions where he could do little harm, but at no point did Stalin ever seriously consider offing Zhukov.

If you look carefully at the RA Allied ending you notices that everything from Kremlin was already ruined and most USSR forces surrendered. Not a sign of any Soviets who wanted truce with the Allied Forces. While the Soviet ending, Soviet becomes victories defeating the Allied leaving Stalin and his comrades dropping like dead flies then Kane become the superior >:). However, why we don't see Nod and Kane in the Allied cutscenes? Well because they need to hide from the radar until when their time is right aka Tiberian Dawn. They can't be revealed or else their plot would be ruined or else Tiberian Dawn can't be born. It's impossible the Allied track them down because they never heard who are the Brotherhood of Nod are. Presumably BOTH RA endings leads to Tiberian Dawn. For the fan theory like Soviets ending leads to Tiberain Dawn, somebody already made a fun custom campaign aka From the Ashes. If you want to think that RA Allied victory leads Red Alert 2, that was caused by Yuri who was being sucked into a Chrono Vortex which caused by a GDI soldier who accidentally activated the Chronosphere during a cancelled C&C Incursion by Westwood. Technically yes, but he likely was thinking she's a convenient fallgirl to set the player's character up as Chairman. After all: to be the man whom "avenged" Stalin by killing his assassin; quite a good way to secure the top job. Meanwhile Kane is behind the scenes, pulling strings and planning for the future.

Remember, some people say Red Alert was never serious. That it was always about comedy and hot babes. That is why the very first mission involves the killing of civilians and children, cause it was never serious.

Yeah i never understood that whole "red alert is funny" trope either. Red alert 2 and the expansion was pretty campy and silly but yeah RA1 was probably just as dark and gloomy as the tiberium story. RA 1 and 2 are still awesome games though.

As americans, we do our jobs and that is it. We can see there doesn't seem to be much of a separation between the military's duty and their personal issues, which might be the main cause for them to destroy Soviet projects we probably wished to keep (except for the military bomb), but all it matters is that we do our duty. We're the good guys after all, so what does it matter if we disagree with this and that ? As Soviets, we get recognition and payment for our jobs, we get both American and Russian projects, only the competent generals remain as efficiency is prioritized... But at what cost ? So many lives lost and betrayal after betrayal... Is this the glory you want to bathe yourself in ?

When I was 13, Kane was the man I wanted to be when I grew up. Great stuff. Though this is (Obv) a fictional game, it is a perfect depiction of how lucky the world was in WWII; Socialist Germany & Socialist Russia fighting each other spared the world. If they remained loose allies or became close, the world wouldn't stand a chance.... but also, the greater evil won (the bolsheviks) while the lesser evil was wiped out (the NSDAP). *EDIT:* Hah. Looks like I 'triggered' some fefs from reddit/X but it's to be expected. They are hardcore leftists (socialists) and don't like to be reminded what that means.
