I think the real takeaway here is that V1 has such a good blueprint and each player seems to play their part extremely well. Comm is and has been the disrupter / the primary player in applying pressure everywhere - which makes Beastmode's solo plays and mechanical ability to shine through, and Torment is just solid everywhere but is the best at keeping composure on defense. such a fun team to watch

  • @AutosportDesign

True, Comm and Torment have such unique skill sets, and Beastmode is yet another ungodly mechanical kid. All three of them play for each other instead of playing for themselves and when it works it’s really unplayable. Either Comm creates chaos and Beast or Torment have an easy shot, or Comm and Torment can use their mechanics to create chances for Beast, we saw many passing plays from Torment to Beast against Gen G. Then there’s also Beastmode who can play the aggressive “Firstkiller” type role and either score on his own or drop it to Comm or Torment to tap it in. They really just bring the best out of each other. There’s many dimensions to this V1 team and nobody really plays like them, that’s what makes them so interesting.

@@AutosportDesign playing for each other is a good way to put it. The beastmode comm combination makes defenses so awkward too bc beatmode will just play it around the last man if he doesnt have a clean opportunity instead of taking a weak shot - whatever is a better chance of his own team scoring. Think thats what firstkiller lacks

For sure! V1 has to be my top favourite team just because they play so uniquely and everyone has a role. Space Station used to be that team for me, and same with Moist just because they had such good mechanical skill they could power through the defense.

Seeing how much work Torment has put in to upping his mechanics is such an incredible thing to watch, instead of falling behind like a lot of the "older" pros hes turning in to more than just a defensive God and these higher mechanics is just making his defense even better. So fun to watch!

I think the knee jerk reaction stems from what most of us experience during reg. and even non competitive play, Demo's usually result from the winning team noticing a skill gap and twisting the knife just a little more by adding demos to an already frustrating game for the opposing team to lose. I myself hate demo's used in that manner. A playmaker having that in his tool kit to generate opportunities well that you see in some form no matter what sport you play. Lebron, Bird, Jordan...probably the biggest trash talkers in the game. In Hockey there's always enforcers on the team. Cam Neely #8 was basically doing the same thing Comm was doing here.

I think there is a lot to be said about how easy it is for NRG to get demo'd as well. In an SSG coms video Retals is heard saying how NRG is the easiest team in NA to demo. Some of these demos Comm didnt even have to go out of his way to get. I dont think its unfair or mean to say that NRG has to change their play style if the want to remain competitive in RLCS

This properly stands as the record, but I do like Allushin's RGB demo game more (I guess that stands as most demos in a 5 minute game). Allushin not even taking the kickoff and getting a flat 0 touches was hilarious. Though in Comm's favor, playing the ball and demoing is obviously a better team move. Congrats to both on being amazing showmen and players in their own ways.

Because it’s a high risk low reward play. So what, comm gets a little more speed and hits the ball to the other team a little quicker. Should he mess up the mechanic or just miss due to not judging the speed increase correctly, he’s just left his team in a 2v3. It’s useful, but not if you aren’t 100% confident doing it.

Also IF there was a broken, "easy win" mechanic EVERYONE would use it all the time in a competitive setting. It's like chosing a high- to S-Tier character in a fighting game, most serious competitive players would do that.

If you just watched someone get 20 demos in one game on professional players and your reaction is "that's cringe" and not "that's unbelievable" I don't know what to tell you. IMO Comm is one of the best players in RLCS at being able to scrap it out on defense, maintain possession, get that extra touch, and read the game. I think he and Retals are similar in that way. You're out of your mind if you think Comm isn't mechy. I wanted NRG to win and I don't love demos but I have never seen anything like this game in all my years watching RL. I've already forgotten all the crazy mechy shots I recently saw in RLCS but I won't forget this game.

I dont agree that the good thing about demo's are that they are hard to do in pro matches and should then be seen as a high lvl skill. I feel like demos are a part of the strategic game in rlcs, and rocket league in general, just like rotations. So it annoys me that so many people hate on it. I agree its annoying, but its also frustrating to lose against a team with good rotations. My point is that demo's and bumpes should be seen as another part of the fundamentals in rocket league, just like rotation, positioning, ball and car control. Maybe not as important but still a fundamental thing to learn. (Btw english is my second language so dont hate..)

NRG fan here. First of all, I want to say that I wouldn’t ever DM somebody to trash them for anything that happens in a pro RL game, so we aren’t all flame monsters. Second, I’m not a fan of the way Comm plays, but I don’t hate it either. While it’s frustrating to watch that many demos, it is part of the game. I may sometimes get raged when I’m getting demo chased in game, but I usually end up thinking that either demos shouldn’t be part of the game or they should be harder to get, not that someone is cringe or something for going for demos, at least after my initial frustration calms down. I would love to see a demo-free RL, though, even if it is just an extra mode or something, just to see how different the game would be.

Demos are a mechanic of the game, I dont think there is any problem with demos, especially with being able to avoid them or alternatively do it yourself. Sure air dribble bumping when you do it properly is almost unbeatable but when the alternative is to enable phasing through cars I think it's just a worse option than being able to actively put your opponents out of position. natrually I think NRG fans are just salty about the loss

I was actually thinking during the series that Comm is a very special player and quite underrated. I don't think there's a single other player that has that good of an understanding of where to fit demos into their rotation and when they are the most valuable/ effective. But you also have to mention how perfectly V1 fits together as a team with Torment holding down the back when the other two are reeking havoc on offense and Beastmode fulfilling the nowadays necessary role of the cracked mechanical guy on the ball while still rounding out the rotation and sliding in well as 3rd man if needed.
