Comedian Bassem Youssef on the Israel-Gaza war, the Arab Spring, and why we can’t change the world

Bassem Youssef thinks that he’s come on the wrong podcast. “People in power don't really care about any of our suggestions to change the world”, he tells Krishnan Guru-Murthy, “because if our ways to change the world affect their interests, they will stop you.”
And he knows what he’s talking about, having fled his home country of Egypt after his TV comedy became no longer acceptable to the authorities there.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Bassem started his career as a heart surgeon, then moved to political comedy in response to the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, taking on the ruling elite in his country. His political satire show, ‘Al-Bernameg’ was the most watched show in Egyptian TV history, but soon became a thorn in the side of the authorities there, forcing him into exile.
In this episode of Ways to Change the World, Bassem Youssef talks about his view that Israel should be held accountable for the war in Gaza, how the Egyptian revolution was a turning point in his life, and why he feels disillusioned with the West's "lecturing" on human rights and international law.

As an orthodox jew, I condemn the terrorist acts and war crimes of Israel. I support the creation of a free and independent Palestinian state. This will end all the violence. As Jews we need to accept that Israel is the occupying force and we need to do the right thing and give Palestinians their own independent state free from Israeli interferences. CRITCIZING ISRAEL ISN'T ANTISEMITISM!!! JUDAISM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ZIONISM !!!!

The terrorists acts of Israel? Israel doesn’t commit terrorist acts. Israel wants peace. Where do you get your information from?? The Israeli govt. removed all Jews out of Gaza in 2005. Gaza had no Jews in it since 2005! Hamas, instead of using the $ they received to help their people and build infrastructure instead built terror tunnels and use civilians as humans shields.

He said every word we dare to say, he expressed deep feelings we all are feeling, he talked about 2011, he talked about the hypocrisy of west and America, he talked about coup, he talked about disappointment, frustration and about recklessness of the world. He talked about the confusion we all are in, he talked about why we don’t have democracy and the role of west into this, he talked about the new world order and how scary it is, he talked about unjust and unfairness, he talked about inhumane acts of west and most importantly he talked about the evil of the world, Israel! He talked about how Israel could even be awarded Nobel peace prize if they decide to stop the war. In all, Bassem was us today!

Always a treat to hear Bassem Youssef speak the truth about the futility of being a citizen in a supposed 'free country' where you are a humanitarian yet you are spoken to as if you were some kind of dangerous zealot. He, I and the majority of people across the world are of the same minds of caring about all of us, not just people with the same skin color, the same religion, the same intolerance towards others. It should be about caring for all of us because ultimately that's what will move the world forward as a civilization, or if we can't, what will ultimately result in the end of us all. It's supposed to be 'united we stand, divided we fall', yet to bad faith actors it's 'divided we stand, united we fall'.

What if people don't congratulate them, a two-state solution is reached, yet the war rages on, considering the Palestinian position is that the whole of Israel is a settlement, but now they have a lot more ability to bring in weapons with greater strength and it breaks out into a much larger conflict? Would that not be worse than what you proposed? What if they are congratulated after Hamas is routed, Palestinians reject to continue these types actions, they elect a peaceful group that uses all the aid given to it to build infrastructure for Gazans and the next 20 years are peaceful as opposed to the last 20 years?
