    I've got 3 Melanistic Gambusia I caught in a canal in Pt. Charlotte/N. Port area. You can usually spot them and target them specifically if they are around. Good aquarium fish. Easy to take care of.

    Thank you for the video. It is very timely for me. I’m moving and had to sell off my fish tanks last weekend including my pygmy sunfish. I started with 3 last July and pulled out at least 12. The tank was heavily planted so I had no idea I had that many! Sad to see them go... such an interesting little fish :(

    I will definitely be in touch once I have the aquarium ready. I’m planning a custom shallow tank to better simulate this ditch environment. What types of plants do you find in the ditches? Would you be willing to collect and sell those as well?

    @@tstanks982 There are so many kinds of plants at this location. My next trip will have to include a young person who can bend over and who can help me with a second net to catch male mollies. YES I will be carrying native plants. I will clear them with a state botanist friend first to make sure they are not invasive.

    @@FatherFish Thank you for the offer but regardless of which one you are referring to, I couldn't possibly put a live creature through the stress of shipping. I just couldn't imagine how petrified they'd be with being thrown around, temperature fluctuations, endless vibrations & jostling while being in total darkness, enclosed in a little bag. Thanks for considering me but they are much safer with you.

    Father fish i want to know how you overcome with bio film. i have this issue overcome by hang on the back has a surface skimmer built in but i really watant to change to sponge filter because the current is a bit strong and the main issue is small fish and shrimp get inside the surface skimmer and into the filter. so does sponge filter get rid of the sum of the surface and can i make due without the bubble noise which i cant stand. I turn all my equipment off at night i have 2 aquarium in my room near my bed i have never had a problem with fish sick or dead in this system of 16months everything is set on a timer light & filter heaters is always on.

    Set up a sponge filter and leave it on 24/7. That will clear up the biofilm.

    Has anyone come up with theories of why fish near the equator are more colorful then the temperate regions. Pretty much all we have is the blue spot and yellow on blue gills and sunfish and rainbow trout.

  • @FatherFish

    @FatherFish

    3 жыл бұрын

    This is a very complicated subject with no easy answers. One interesting theory claims color is energy intensive. Cold water species conserve energy. Warm water species do not.
