We have Pygmy Sunfish fry!! Breaking Down one of the 30g tubs

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I broke down one of my 30g tubs that contained Pygmy Sunfish (Elassoma okeefenokee). All my adults did really well and I got about 30 fry. Take a look at this continuation of my summer tubbing series.

cool didn't know they make those ball siphons I have been looking for something like that. A lil trick I use to make sure babies don't get stuck and mushed in the roots, I will shake gently while bringing up slowing that way it shakes everything out of the roots, gently .

ok I've watched several of your vids and you are one of the busiest people I have ever seen. I don't know how you get it all done. I have plants chickens, pigs, horses, goats snakes setting up my first tank in years and have a full time job. you still win lol. well I must give credit to the wife that does lots of animal chores.

Another gorgeous fish I found quite by accident a while back. I'm glad I saw your video on this as I didn't know you might have them (I see this is last year's). I turned my LFS guy onto looking into them, but he did mention they wouldn't be something they would stock because of their lifespan. I will keep an eye on your stocking list in the future when looking for them potentially. Thanks so much for all your videos. (Am glad to have found your channel. Your 101 nano species book is what I used when setting up my tanks last year and I've turned my LFS onto it as well and they now use it as reference material ).

Thank you for the tip on the water they are in being soft rain water. I'm about to bring mine inside. And was going to put them in their tub water just to keep their good bacteria water. I have hard water in the house. Thanks to your tip , I know to do the switch a lot slower than I was going to.

Rachel, you can overwinter water lettuce potted in soil , not floating in water. In nature they can be found in seasonally floded areas.

they can handle temperatures well below 50. the banded pygmy sunfish is wild in my area and endures water temps in the 30's. i've collected them after breaking thin surface ice. i'm in mississippi and not sure where you are, but as long as they don't freeze solid, they're good. i mainly catch them in swamp pools that dry out in late summer.

hi there you actually motivated me on setting up tubs as well. im on the other side of the globe, South Africa. our spring just started, so we are getting day temps of 25 degrees celcius, and night temps of 11 to 14 degrees celcius. but im checking the temps every morning between 6 and 7, was on 12 degrees this morning in the tubs. im planning on doing live barers for my first time around. also still need some plants, but will get it month end, when i stock the tubs. do you have some kind of overflows or holes drilled in the tubs? im just trying to figure out how to keep fry and fish inside the tubs if we get heavy rains. last thing i want is for it to overflow.

can you use crushed coral substrate to buffer the water outside so it doesn't turn acidic from rain water. or would that make the ph and kh too high?

Great video! I watched all of it! I've settled it down to Pygmy sunfish or Dario Dario. Whatever one is at LFS or I can find somewhere. What should I feed these fish I don't want any culturing of bbs or anything like that. What could I feed frozen or freeze dried food for there tiny little fish? Thank you and how many male and female ratio can I have in 5.5?

You've worked with soo many fish. I am looking into nano fish for a 5.5G setup and had a few questions about some uncommon fish I can't seem to find any experienced people to ask. Can scarlet badis, pygmy sunfish, or anchor catfish tolerate hard water with some API freshwater aquarium salt in it? I'm looking for some small, peaceful, little shy, slow moving fish that tend to graze on their food rather than gobble it up as the star of the tank (FW longnose pipefish - lots of debate on if they need brackish conditions so right now I'm considering keeping them full FW but with FW salt) require slow eating, non aggressiveness tank mates. Thought these nano species would be a good place to start as all are rather slow moving and shy.
