Dude awesome video. Just came across your channel. Love the great info all tied in with the history. Love that little set up too. Where did you get those bowls? My LFS accidentally gave me a scarlet badis that was in their tetra tank. I wound up ordering a bunch more. I absolutely love all of the micro species. Just learned about the sunfish today I’m definitely going to build myself a tank for them. If I recall correctly the badis is the smallest species of perch. Or it’s a cousin to the perch or something along those lines.

Check out aphanius mento. It's a killifish from around Turkey that looks very similar to elassoma. They have so many similarities in behavior to elassoma with the exception of they like hard water. For some reason, they are not as common as many other killis in the US, but they are actually way more easy to maintain than most and eggs only take about 10 days to hatch. So no need to go through the long hatching process that is common with many killifish species.

Who would swap me some gilberti, for the Mississippi variety? I also catch ghost shrimp and nice and active rainbow shiners. Lots of nice plants too. Check out my tube on the syren I caught, he's really strange. Peace from dwn sth.

Maybbbbe in mass but not length. Ive had adult badis also never get more than half an inch! Sometimes i think nano fish get stunted and maybe even don't mature, due to a lack of food 24/7...they need food all day, in tiny bits at a time and even feeding 3 or 4 times a day isnt enough if they are a runt or shy

That's been a big arguement for years. But the short answer is no. The females in sunfish can rarely get larger than gambusia / least killis... but on average pygmy sunfish species only grow to .5 -.8 inches , but if conditions are perfect for nonstop food the females sometimes reach an inch or 1.25 max... but some species/ arguably subspecies actually- like Elassoma alabamea stay .8 or smaller ...with some adults never crossing .5 inches.... and even though they are classified as separate species, many people think there is really more of a spectrum with some overlapping, since they can all spawn together Here is a long answer- forum.nanfa.org/index.php/topic/11086-whats-the-smallest-fish/

Why are your nails painted? I kind of like it. It fits your personality.

Well it started when my wife and i were bored on quarantine...i made fun of how she did her nails and she said "i bet you , you cant do any better"...so i showed her! (And then she laughed and said "i win, have fun with the nail polish remover"... but so as to be an annoying husband, i didnt take it off for like 2 weeks... and then ive redone them 2x because people online have literally left the channel saying " Are you gay or somrthing? I thought you were cool"....and stupid comments like that...so 1. I figure all those people can GTFO of this community....we are not about intolerance towards anyone who isn't harming or harassing anyone else. But 2. I notice i watch my hands way way more when my nails are painted...so i think about not touching my face, or scratching my nose etc. During all this mask and glove business....and lastly... 3. It's an attention grabber and people definently notice where im pointing on my videos hehe

@@Fishtory I think if someone wants to do something and it doesn't hurt anyone else then let them do it. The freedom to choose what you do to your body is what is important.

Well I like your nails, I think they maybe need a touch-up. I have no idea where one finds Pypmy Sunfish, except on line. I am not a fan of receiving shipped fish.

Mine never have gotten that large in the past. Probably due to feeding brine shrimp and blood worms...where as this round they're eating a very diverse selection of things...maybe theyll grow more

These guys are very hard to come across. I spent several hours with a net, reaching under grass mats in waist deep 70 degree water and only found 3. It was fun but chilly.
