Receiving a barrel in Jamaica or shipping when I travel works out way better than buying the things out here. The last barrel I did, had clothes, food, toiletries, cleaning supplies and appliance. If I had to buy those items out here it would be nearly 3 times the cost. If you know how to pack the the barrel you can't lose.

Totally agree with you. Sending barrels to Jamaica when I'm in the UK is a no brainer for me too, definitely more cost effective for certain things and overall. I usually send 2, one with food and one with household such as detergent, soap shower gels etc. I find our detergent isn't so harsh on our clothes than the Jamaican ones which seem to contain bleach. Basmati rice is so expensive even for a small bag here so I always buy the 10kg bags to send down. My experience with the wharf has definitely gotten better, the process is much smoother and this last time I was in and out in about 3 hours which is a record and like you I came prepared 😊.

@@sash5193 exactly😊 No you are not the only one. I found their detergent harsh on my clothes and bleaching out the colour, even the fabric softener didn't make my clothes feel soft. I stick to what I'm used to and stock up everytime I go to the UK.

Every year I usually sent 3-4 barrels home but decide against doing so this year based on the increase in food cost and clearing. Why it makes no sense for me to send barrels this time around is because I usually send barrels to individuals and not for my use. It makes sense to send a barrel if it's for your personal use and not because you're just being generous. I'm not connected to the people I usually send barrels to, I just did it because I could but seeing how things are trending it is wise for me to reduce my spending. Great video as usual.

Despite the mass increases across the world, sending a barrel STILL works out to be cost effective. When I visit shoppers fair and Hi-lo, the 6 or 7 items bills the same as the fee you have to pay the shipping company. That doesn't work for me - I need more for my money. The air fare to travel in the next couple months (from London) is another cost I'm trying to beat but I can't get round that one....Yet😂😂

The barrel is cheaper if when you land at the airport you declare it to custom and they give you a special paper that you take to the wharf and the barrel become cheaper, because it is classified as a part of your luggage( if flew into Jamaica after shipping the barrel).

I do the math different. If I spent $200 on shipping and had 100 items, each item cost me an extra $2. Total cost of shipping divided by how many items equals what you paid per item. So a $1 bar of soap, actually cost $3 . If the local price is above $3 then I saved money. What's annoying is you won't know your actual cost until you get there so it's a gamble. Another thing to consider is whether you have a car, gas and parking. No car means paying more to get the barrel home. So I guess it depends on alot of things, and no matter how you slice it, I think it's too expensive.

It is cost effective to send barrels to Jamaica. The plastic barrel in itself is good to have to store water and other. The time you will spend in Jamaica travelling from one store to another to find the items you would like, is substantially reduced by a few barrels purchased and packed overseas. One day at the Wharf, saves days shopping around in Jamaica, it is well worth shipping to Jamaica. The cost of basic items is prohibitive for many items in Jamaica. As we experience supply chain issues and shortages and go into a global recession. At this time we need to add key items to the barrel and things that will last, like tools, boots, cloths and basic medicines. In a year ot two to come, many of us will not recognise the prices we will have to pay for food, goods or services going forward into the future. Buy and ship what you can now, no matter where you are living or going.

I love sending boxes and barrels to JA. I have been using Romac Shipping for a few years now. They are amazing. Unfortunately had a bad experience with Kingsley and so wouldn't ever use them again. I've sent down the approximately 30 boxes, barrels and pieces of furniture with them in the past few years and it's always been a very positive experience. I do door to door because I find it much easier. The quality of the products and the fact that I have everything sitting in my house makes life simpler for me and my family. I get a lot of clothing donations from family and friends, and distribute them to various people in Jamaica. I prefer it and won't be stopping anytime soon.

Very expensive to pack and costly all round. 1barrel cost me around 600dollars to pack and sometimes alot more if I don't get a sale price. I have to always look out for sales and if I send clothing it's more than a thousand. I stop and do one for Xmas up to 2020. I give it up now but I understand it's your personal barrel and that makes more sense. plus you spend less to fill it. costly from Canada.

You and I must have had the same kind of encounter with the custom officer. I was at the MoBay wharf in July to collect my container.. I meet hell in there, and the custom officer had to be Satan herself or at least a she-devil.. She was the worst female I have ever encountered at the wharf after shipping for years. The process starts for me at the shipping office in town where I pay the first fee. On the paperworks I received from this office to take to the wharf was a number amount. I then went to the wharf and paid the first cashier. After they locate my container, one of the custom officers look at my paperwork and told me to go the cashier. I went and paid the amount that was on the paper. Then came time for the container to be opened and the wait began for the inspection.. I waited in what felt like 110 degree temperature while the custom officers sit in their a/c offices. I went 3 different times and ask if someone could come and check my items. They just look at me like "who the hell are you" and barely obliged someone will be coming out shortly. They were talking, laughing and looking at their phones. When the she-devil finally came out of her cool office I saw her walking the other way. I called out to her bc I didn't want her to miss me. She look right at me and didn't even give a response and kept on going. Oh my God! I never felt so small, and the worst part is that I am an older woman for this girl. Without knowing her age, I could be her mother. I'm glad I'm not. She finally took her time and when she came back she just walked up to me and stretched her hand out wanting the papers. She looked at my items, left and went back to her office. After another wait, she came out and hand me the papers and told me to go to the cashier. I told her that I already pay. She gave me 'that look' and said go to the cashier. I told her I did not have all this money bc I pay the cashier. She told me I can come back when I have the money . I had to borrow some money from the transport man that was picking me up to make up this new amount. I ended up paying almost the same amount of money that I paid to the cashier earlier. My flight landed at noon, and i got to the wharf by around 1:30 pm. When I left the wharf it was after 6 pm. My clothes was so wet from the heat in that place that they were sticking to my body. My feet were so swollen they could pop open. Jamaica custom needs to rethink customer service and price structuring. They need to consider the impact on the country's economy if people abroad stop or even cut down on shipping. As for the she-devil custom officer, I hope she understands that what goes around also comes around.

I have my barrel reach from the 11th, and now it's hectic, because I going have to figure out all this now and this is the first barrel I've ever collected. I just want to hurry up and get over with it, because is a big deficit to me as I don't have any vehicle and very intimidated to go rent one by myself as the likelihood of being held up and robbed. I really don't know what to expect as this is Jamaica, this thought is scary! I'm just a young man who lives by his self, I don't deal with much people or get involved unless I'm weened in, as this ongoing theme of violence and crime in this country is devastating and has become too much for me as character who perpetually placed in the vulnerable seat due to my families class in society, I just deal with school, work and girls. I've had individuals have targeted me in the past, complete strangers I never knew nor did they live in my community and attempted to invade my house then went on to hostile takeover my residence with brute force under the, that the could steal it by quote unquote "paying off the taxes for it" , (I couldn't believe it) domestically terrorized me the entire time, (the entirety of parish was totally in support of it, I couldn't get no justice and all people did was shaming me for being a victim, people I had no clue about me prior to taking interest to misguide and mislead me, all my girlfriend got scared and left me) so I learnt a big lesson during that time, and now trying to make effort of recovery so I can sort out myself, get on my feet like I was doing before this happened and gain back the time that was lost, because allot of damages where done, school fee burnup, practically I'm in shambles now, and everyone wants to obstruct me getting justice, which pushing me to take on certain ideologies for my sake of self perseveration, as there were no recourse, as when I had initially called the police, they came and assaulted me as to come to find out they had happened to be consorts of the perpetrators who had taken over, I've even went to neighbours to procure advice, assistance, something and they were very devisive and fixated on this Ludacris idea to write me off as if I happen to be suffering from delusion and these characters who came out of nowhere who I had never had any relations with happen to be my family all of a sudden, they all were acting away, as if they telling ME! all for the sake to condescendingly show support of this atrocity, I never done these people nothing in my life, and to do that to somebody, it's beyond me! They always were very fascinated with them until them same criminals turn around killed one of the neighbours, how ironic seeing initially the fact my life was in danger which never matter to them or worth doing anything well on contrary they felt it was worth to endorsed but at the cost of their own safety too and it being pushed under a rug it happens that they were the only ones, well one of them out of all of them to experience injuries to that capacity, they had deluded theirself and end up get it horrible, all to oppress me. These people hospitalized my grandmother also as I was caring for her, while merely juggling school and work, I have lost multiple of jobs, couldn't finish school due to the domestic terrorism and the damages done to my reputation because while they at it, they out there sullying my name to discredit me, and people take to it because, I don't even know? I have people harrassing me on the road complete strangers about the welfare of my family estates, or their opinions on my circumstances being disadvantaged not anything positive, always to escalate or instigated conflict and I don't know if they cops or some form of agent. I genuinely don't know why people feel as if they more entitled to my family properties and why it's not being treated for what it is, All to emasculate me isolate me, because of the wealth my father worked for and died left trying to build up this god for saken country. All I wanted was to setup myself to go abroad with my gf to migrate to avoid the very same thing that had happened, here comes these lowlifes I can't even describe the whole of what I had witness, as it was gruesome, but afterwards when they started to go on a killing spree, they no longer where even at my house any more and suddenly became interest to the police because now they can come in and capture the house well to there thoughts, as they never expected me to survive so long. The police one early morning barrage in with no warrant, nothing, rifles pointed at me in my sleep through my window, yelling on top of there voice, demanding me to open up, they then kidnapped me as I went on to show them prove that I this was my house and that I was who they said I was, to there knowledge I don't know why their here, they stated no reasoning as to why they here and even when I asked they ignored me and exert as if this was not a regular rodeo to investigate any crime because only crime that was ever committed was to me, why they brought me into costody with no charges nothing? Literally abduct me from my house traumatize me, then went on for no reason at all, which is defame more to my character, as people saw me in the back of a police truck, nor did they ask me any question of any sort, they just usurp my rights again, luckily I never show them any title for them to confiscate because they was very insistent on seeing that after breaking into my house, for the longest while the police been trying to capture my house so they've not only allowed things escalated, even endorsed it as the time I was being brutalized by an officer for calling them, they've been the main perpetrators of the crime, so I'm tired of these stresses as it's all out of my control, then this victim blaming thing I can't take from society, cuz crimes being done to me and there is no justice, and there shouldn't be no justice, this no different from slavery and is the very same black people exercising this (My mother and father are die and I'm all by myself now). So I'm hoping and praying with this barrel does not cost me too much trouble, nor attract any unwanted or any kind of attention and become a burden more than it should be, especially getting it out of customs. I don't even have any more money to lose, so I can't go through all these things again for a barrel, it's hard enough to go find the money, I been waiting for years before all this transpire.
