I am old, and feel that we give the young short shrift. When I was young, I saw through a lot of things. And now that I'm old, I listen to the young, when they have time for me. Age does not equal wisdom. We really need to stop this generational hatred. Boomers are not mean selfish ogres, and younger people are not lazy. We've been pitted against each other, and it's wrong. Just a thought. I like/respect Mr. Hughes as well. ~ from Canada

My aunt loves it, she's the type to argue about the sky being blue. The other day I walked in wearing a sleeveless shirt and said it's pretty cold outside and she said I think it actually feels good outside while she's wearing a jacket and covered up in a blanket sitting in front of a space heater. If you agree with her she argues, if you disagree she argues. She's a total liberal Joe loving demo. She wonders why her husband runs off and goes on a bender every chance he gets.

If I was in a similar position as him having my words and character be publicly challenged I don't know that I would know how to defuse it. It would have been interesting to understand why the refocus on his character occurred. Maybe she read the book twice and invited him on because what his books said held something that causes an uncomfortable shifted her world view. Maybe we were witnessing her trying to glue her world view back together? Edit.... I saw other comments about her family's history. 26 years ago I was living in Costa Rica. I used to read articles written by Rigoberto Stewart, a Costa Rican economist. I became a fan and I spoke about him often with my wife. One day, I went to one of his conferences and I got to speak to him. I was thrilled and I came back with the story to my wife. She said she wanted to know what he looked like and I showed her his picture in the newspaper. She said: "He is black. You never mentioned he is black." My answer made her laugh: "He is an economist!" Of course, I noticed he was black, but it was of little importance to me, so I left it out. On the contrary, when he published a book advocating for increased autonomy for Limon, an area of Costa Rica where black costaricans form the majority of the population, I added to my story that he was a Black economist because it was relevant for the story. This is what I understand as color-blind. Of course, I support your solution to end racism, to treat each individual as an individual.

It's rarely mentioned that the "colorblind" or "I don't see race" motifs were never even originally meant to be literal. They were always references to the classical western ideals of blind justice. Look at neo-classical art: Lady Justice is always depicted in statues and paintings with a blindfold. Does anyone actually believe judges and juries are blind? Of course not. It always was a platonic ideal to strive for.

How many mothers didn't? They're literally training your kids to want to kill mine. I'm taking my kids to the mountains to get away from the "melting pot" before they become victims. I'm not counting on "POC" to stand up for me like whites did for them. I appreciate your effort 😔🤘 but it's in the minority. Little kids start bullying other kids based on race early as they see other kids do it or they learned it directly from their parents. Excellent point of view
