@@paijlee1 yes, but sex still tends to be rated pg13 or above when included in movies or TV shows. Books don't really have a rating system, its harder for parents to accurately gauge the type of content their child is consuming. I'm not saying sex has no place in books. Even older teen books. One of my favorite books is banned now, which I don't agree with. "Looking for Alaska" I feel it's an over correction but I suppose it's better than the constant over exposure of tweens to sex and sexuality.

The only accountability they face will be by the parents if they decide to act. But I've seen no such intention from any parents; all I see are parents grandstanding and arguing in these school board meetings, over and over, accomplishing absolutely nothing. These books have been in libraries now for YEARS at schools. YEARS. I don't have a dog in this race but if I did I can tell you I wouldn't be sitting idly by while they push that smut on my child. These parents should, quite frankly, all be ashamed.

This whole movement is a planned result that started in our colleges no later than the late 50's, as I own an episode of the Jack Benny Show highlighting this liberal agenda in an episode from 1958 or 1959, I forget which, but I know the content presented just the same. A lot of the problem is people think that the people on the other side of a particular agenda aren't very smart. ​@@victorstalick5528There are hundreds of these types of books found in elementary school thru high school libraries everyday. Don't kid yourself into thinking this is an isolated incident. My son teaches elementary school and has warned the parents of his students about these books for the past year and most parents are shocked to discover these books are being used in the classroom and assigned as reading material by the school boards. He refused to assign the books to his students who are 6-10 years old because they are inappropriate for anyone under 18. If colleges and universities want to assign these books as part of their studies, that's fine because at least the students are adults at that point.

Shocking to have a book like that in the school library. Well done that father and son for calling it out.

A school library should be aligned with what the curriculum. The public library should have ALL types of books. All genres available to all citizens. Board of Education should be fired for this breach of trust. There are laws to protect children from sexual harassment and abuse.

What about the fact the librarian asked the kid if he wanted more?! That's disgusting and that librarian should be FIRED! Thank God for this strong family who is taking on the evils of this school! Brave 11 year old boy!

Find out WHO approved that particular book and all books alike to be available in the library. And also WHO approved for that particular book to be by the door and on a stand. Clearly someone wants that book to catch attention and to be checked out of the library and be taken home by a CHILD! SHAME ON ALL WHO THINK THIS IS OK!!

The dad should not have set his kid up to read that. Yeah, it hits home more when you see a child of his age read it. But, the dad could have read it out loud himself in a child's voice without having his child read it. That's a stunt. Not cool. I think it's a no-brainer that kids shouldn't have access to this disgusting filth. But, no stunts involving your kids as props, too.

They could stumble across them and read them--never ever being the same innocence again. I agree they should NOT allow them in schools. But, using one child to prove the point has resulted in that child having that influence in their head. No. No. No. It was a terrible stunt, probably done for a good cause. But, no.

I repeat once again, you CAN NOT undo the fact he has already read that material, had the father read it out the impact on the board would NEVER have the same impact, having the victim reading it out is far far more likely to have this stopped ! @Colin623 I totally understand where you're coming from. But no one said the boy found this in the library and came home talking about it. There are so many of these school board meetings where people use their time to illustrate what is found in schools today. I applaud them for standing up. But, no way this kid came home with this book and recited parts of it. I don't buy it. AND they never said he did. I know the point is to make people realize how harmful it is to children to stumble on these horrid books. But, no way should you have your child read that to make a point. Even if the kid HAD read it before, they shouldn't be made to read it again.

Years ago kids only had to be warned about "stranger danger " :they need to be warned about "teacher danger " now as well .

I've been bullied by my teacher when I was 8. She destroyed me socially, by humiliating me in front of the whole class and belittling me at every occasion. Teachers have _always_ been a potential danger. Watch your kids, talk to them about their school life, because that's a part you can't monitor or see. Communicate, and stay vigilant.

I commend the child and his Dad for standing up to this crap!! In fact I would ask my department to make the young boy a police officer for a day to arrest the librarian himself with adult police officers present. The case would be written with the boy as the arresting officer!!! As a former librarian I would have to disagree. Usually books that are bought for schools come from recommendations lists online or are recommended by the students themselves. What I will say it is the fault of the school themselves for not screening the books before they displayed for the kids to read. But before you make accusations you need to be informed on how process works when bringing books into the schools.

If the librarian just let it be, they’d be a neutral participant which is still bad, but they became an active and willing contributor which is even worse. I agree people shouldn’t gatekeep knowledge but discernment is key and especially with fiction… there’s not really any excuse. it’s obvious no discernment was used by the school or the librarian.
